Found their website and emailed them and called as I could not fill in the application from my computer. They replied, mentioned and sent a picture of Jolene, a beautiful black/white 2 yr. old tuxedo female cat. Had a meet and greet at the foster moms home and Jolene and I had an instant connection. She was purring, rubbed up against me, talked. It felt as if we had known each other for ever. Jolene was a perfect companion for me and Jolene was mine before I left the home. I picked her up at the Petco store in Plaistow, NH, filled out the paperwork, bought furniture, food, toys and things Jolene would need. She is my baby. What a joy she is. Has checked out every inch of my apartment and has made herself right at home. Very affectionate, follows me everywhere. We get along just fine. I am very thankful to Animal Rescue Merrimack Valley for introducing me to my Jolene. They are the best!

It was clear to me that they really know each of their cats and care for them very well--they took the time to get to know me and understand what I was looking for, and suggested a cat who seemed like the perfect fit. They both were eager to answer all of my many questions throughout the process and even helped me out by dropping my new kitty off since I don't have a car. My girl had a few minor health issues after arriving (most likely due to the stress of moving/change in food) and Susan offered me advice about different things I could try and followed up numerous times to make sure she was settling in okay. The process overall couldn't have been any smoother and I am so appreciative of Guardian Angels and the care and diligence they put into finding good homes for all of their cats. If I ever decide to adopt another cat I'll definitely work with them again.

All have vet visits, great food, and most importantly, attention and caring to help their transition from whatever their previous situation was. A few years ago, we reached out to The Cat Connection about adopting a cat we saw on their website. Within 24 hours, we were personally contacted via phone by Eva Miller (Founder and President) to discuss exactly what we were looking for in a new cat. She set up a meeting with a volunteer, Martha-Ann, so that we could meet a few cats that she was fostering. Although we didn't find a perfect match after our first meeting, The Cat Connection continued to follow up with us with other cats they thought would be a good fit for us. We then visited The Cat Connection's headquarters where we were greeted by volunteers and lots of happy cats. After taking a tour and meeting a few different cats, one cat in particular seemed to take a liking to us, and the rest is history! The Cat Connection is one of the best cat rescues in Massachusetts. I highly recommend reaching out to them to find your next feline family member!

In December, the shelter's president, Taline, proactively reached out to ask if we could foster a cat again. At first, due to an uncertain schedule, we replied that we couldn't commit yet. About a week later, once our environment was confirmed suitable, we immediately contacted Taline with our availability, preferred cat types, and other preferences. Taline responded promptly, promising to review the list of cats needing help that week and get back to us. Over ten days passed with no response, despite our reminders. Assuming she was busy, we reached out via The Cat Connection's Slack channel under another volunteer applicant's name at the beginning of this week. Taline replied the next day, again promising to schedule a discussion this week. This week almost passed, and despite private messages and follow-ups, she ghosted us again. Six days ago, we posted a follow-up in the channel regarding fostering. Only then did Taline reply, claiming, "This channel is for announcements and statements to all members." This explanation contradicts prior posts by others requesting volunteer or other opportunities. When we asked again about scheduling a discussion, she ghosted once more. It became clear that she was not too busy to respond - she simply chose to ignore us. I guess she thought volunteers in her opinion were just someone to grab when she needed them. We want to stress that as the shelter's president, Taline's commitments carry weight. Repeatedly making promises and disappearing is disrespectful and unprofessional. Others' time and effort are valuable, and communication - whether to express concerns or provide simple updates - is essential. We hope that in her role, Taline can honor her commitments and respect the time and dedication of volunteers, rather than repeatedly making promises she has no intention of keeping.

In the email I specified that I was happy to come in and requested that they call me. They wrote back saying that I could only visit after my application was approved and they did not call me although their website states they do a phone interview. They simply said to fill out the application that was attached. I filled out the application and they apparently reviewed it, called my personal reference and then proceeded to reject me without ever talking on the phone with me. I thought they should treat people with some more respect if they claim to treat animals this way. They said their reasons for rejection are confidential but I fail to understand given I have subsequently been accepted at another shelter.

While I was not "looking" for a dog, I have always been an avid animal lover and once I saw that picture I couldn't help but look into the rescue more and this puppy !! Needless to say, the staff at One Tail was informative, helpful, and amazing with their animals. Their adoption process is detailed and may take a few days longer than others, but it is due to the fact that they research and make sure each dog goes to a great and well fitting family. I was impressed that when they asked for references they actually followed-up with each one I gave!!! Which to me means not only did I take the time & put my heart into this process but they did as well! Once I received word that my application was accepted they scheduled the pick-up at a local pet-store. When I arrived they had informed me that my pup unfortunately needed to stop by the vet first since she wasn't feeling well that morning. While I was a little sad I had to wait a couple extra hours to get my little puppy home, I was so happy they took the time to make sure she was happy and healthy before sending her home! And they even offered to keep her an extra couple days at no extra cost to make sure she was ALL SET, I did however take her home that afternoon and she has been an amazing addition to my house ever since!! (for the past year :) ) One Tail is a great organization and the volunteers and employees really care about the animals they are placing, it's not just a first-come first-served situation. Great Experience overall and I would recommend (and have) using them for anyone or any family searching for a new furry addition to their home!!

The foster I was in contact with told me to reach out anytime if I had questions, so I asked whether she had noticed it before the puppy was transported up north. She said no and then completely freaked out, telling me "now she's really upset," as if it were somehow my fault that the puppy developed a stye. Of course, I brought the puppy to the vet the very next day. $249 later, the vet said she was otherwise fine and prescribed an ointment, which cleared the stye in less than a day. I also brought a stool sample to that appointment. Low and behold, the puppy tested positive for Giardia. Treating that cost another $144 for both my new puppy and my dog because they had been together since I brought her home, which I believed was safe since we were told the puppies were "quarantined." All of the adopters from this litter were in a group chat with the foster parent, who asked us every single day for three days if the puppies were okay and whether they had diarrhea which now makes perfect sense. Another puppy from the litter also tested positive, and only then did the foster admit that one of the puppies had already tested positive and treated before adoption. Not a single adopter was informed of this until our puppies were already infected. Instead of acknowledging that we should have been alerted that our puppies were exposed to a highly contagious parasite and that all puppies have been treated proactively, she deflected responsibility and blamed transportation. It's clear she does not understand how contagious Giardia is or that her entire yard is now likely contaminated. She also informed us that she currently has another litter of puppies who in my opinion are at risk since soil is contaminated for 2-4 weeks even after feces has been removed. This is absolutely irresponsible behavior and shows zero accountability, and at the end of the day regardless of treatment we had the right to know they was contact with this parasite instead of hiding it.
