The wait here is ridiculously slow. I had an appointment for 3pm and they said i wouldnt be able to be seen until at least 3.45-4pm. Whats the point of making an appointment then? I notice it happens a lot here (according to other yelp reviews) and this issue needs to be fixed because lots of us are busy and we cant just hang around waiting for another hour or more to be seen. They also had computer and printers problems on that day too which took even longer for me to do physical exam but I know technical problems happen so i dont mind that.But other than the long wait, the staff, MA, and doctors were nice. read more

You know what? When I am sick and need to be seen by a doctor, I do not need to be argued with over the my mispronunciation of the type of insurance I have. And they actually do take my insurance! The receptionist was so rude, and passive aggressive. I would rather drive to SF than go deal with that person. You have got to be kidding me. I wanted to share my experience with you all as I have been going to this medical facility for the past 7 months due to a work related injury. Despite having to wait for a few visits, I was ultimately satisfied with their services. This medical facility is clean, their staff are courteous and for anyone who is considering this facility for an injury, I would highly recommend this place. I also wanted to mention a few staff members in particular. Maria & Angelina were especially accommodating to my experience and situation. They were always very attentive and would call me back when promised. read more

Avoid at all costs. If you have other options, use them. If not, expect the following: - 3-hour minimum wait. - Unfriendly and rude staff. - No doctors (at least not that I saw), but Physician's Assistants. - Drug tests take precedence over Urgent Care - Inexperienced radiologist (albeit he was filling in for the normal guy) - No additional information. I had to ask the PA how long I should wear the boot for my foot and how to care for it. No instructions were given. - A CD with your X-rays. Oh wait--take it home and find not X-rays on it but files from 2009. - Inability to understand the issue when you call back reporting that the CD does not, in fact, have your X-rays on it. - Question everything they tell you. While I was told my foot was not broken, I have trouble believing them. Will be seeing another doctor when I get my actual X-rays back. The good: Nothing. The bad: Everything. Don't go here. Unfortunately I can't rate the PT for this place separately. The PTs, Gina and especially Alex , are excellent- Caring, knowledgable. I would give them 5 stars. Sadly, the 'hand specialist' Dr Seia (sp?) is the worst doctor I can imagine. I don't usually say that about people, but I left her appointments crying, twice. She is dismissive and is unable to show any caring about your pain (if any). I would call her negligent. I hope to file a formal complaint. Stay away. read more

I was just seen today by Dr. Young and I must say that it wasn't really a pleasant visit. The Doctors are behind because they were late due to traffic but its doesn't mean that they have to rush in each patient just to caught up since they are behind. I waited in the waiting room for over half and hour just to be seen for less than 10 mins. He asked me what happened and read the file then asked me to stand up and see where the pain was and thats it. Clearly he did not read the form I filled out when I checked in this morning. The pain I have is unbearable and I couldn't even sit still nor even bend and walk steadily and the only time I feel comfortable is when I take the pill which put me to sleep. I don't feel that I got the right help and I must say that this is the worst place for workers comp. The staff are great thats the only positve thing I can say. read more

UPDATE: I was contacted by this office and ultimately they used legal language to deflect the blame entirely with no offer to refund the cost of a visit that probably did me harm instead of good. If you want to get well, go to any other urgent care facility in the area. And don't see Dr. Robert Wagner at this facility or at Alta Bates. === This review is for Dr. Wagner, whom I saw earlier today. I had been having intermittent fever for three days and was feeling very ill. I would give more stars to the reception staff, who were fine, but I get more and more agitated by this encounter. Let me cover my issues with this appointment. 1) After a two-hour wait (seeing the entirety of the movie "Coraline" across two viewings, as I came in half way through and it repeated), the doctor was in the room for less than five minutes. 2) The doctor told me it "sounds like it might be tuberculosis," but would not order a TB test. Instead he gave me a Z-pak and sent me home, telling me if I wasn't better in a few days to "see a doctor." This is a more telling statement than at first glance. Is this an urgent care facility or Health and Wellness on my college campus? In either case, it is preposterous to make a statement to a patient that they may have a potentially serious illness then fail to test for it. What am I supposed to do, go home and worry that I have TB for the next week? Why am I at an Urgent Care facility to begin with? Let me add for everyone out there that TB is highly contagious and I am married and share a home with my wife. 3) After a throat exam, the doctor told me "it doesn't look like strep." I am pretty sure anybody who is a first year medical student knows that strep throat can only be diagnosed with a throat swab. Why I didn't protest is beyond me, but as I said I was feeling very unwell. 4) I told the doctor that I had recently recovered from c. diff, a very serious abdominal infection, and that I was concerned that it would be risky to take a Z-pak. The doctor brushed off my concern and gave me a flimsy sounding excuse about why it would be fine to take a Z-pak. After taking the first dose, I arrived home and researched the issue myself, finding that, no surprise here, I was correct and the doctor was wrong. He spent zero time looking into the issue. Apparently I should be treating patients at this clinic because your doctor knows less about medicine than I do. 5) Last, I told the doctor that my severe cough was extremely painful and requested a prescription cough medicine. The doctor refused and told me to go buy some Robitussin instead. If this person is truly a licensed physician, he clearly has no interest in the welfare of his patients and seemingly lacks a basic grasp of the fundamentals of proper treatment and bedside manner. read more

I went in to US Healthworks based on the recommendation from Blue Cross nurse hotline. I had lingering cold/flu symptoms for over a week and didn't have a regular doctor, so i went there for assistance. Given that i went there as a walk in, I got to see a doctor relatively quickly -- like within 45 minutes. The service was more geared toward efficiency than friendliness, but it was never rude or dismissive. Facilities were clean and pleasant, tho the music in the waiting room was kind of odd and loud ("Le Freak" by Chic, really loud? weird.) The medical assistant was friendly and I didn't wait too long to talk to a doctor. The examination was fairly quick (almost cursory), but I got what I needed, which was a prescription for antibiotics. I wouldn't go there as my regular healthcare provider, but they managed to give me an efficient alternative to going to the emergency room, and I got the care that I needed without too much hassle. read more

I am here for a pre employment screen and it has been over 2 hours and I have not been seen. The front desk cannot give you an accurate estimated time of when you will be seen. Horrendous location -- one of the worst "appointment" experiences I've ever had. I have waited over 1.5 hours to seen by a provider for a physical I scheduled ONE WEEK AGO. To top it off: Inefficient, rude staff that lack empathy. I drank a good amount of water before arriving in preparation for the urine test (since, unlike them, I respect others' time and wanted to be efficient). When told I really have to use the restroom and if I could at least do the urine test while waiting FOREVER to see a provider, they curtly refused! Instead, I'm stuck in this suspiciously empty lobby for almost 2 hours with a full bladder. I 110% recommend you stay away from this place. Worst urgent care experience of my life! I was stuck in the waiting room for three hours before they took me back to a hallway to take my vitals. They had "The Pacifier" playing in lobby and I had to watch it two full times before I got taken to my room, and though I like Vin Diesel as much as the next person, I was in a lot of pain and thats not exactly what you sign up for when you're seeking supposed "urgent care". The doctor didn't come to my room for another thirty minutes, and when she finally showed up she was no help at all. I explained my symptoms in detail, how long they had been going on, which medicines I tried, which ones didn't help, etc. I'm not new to hospitals so I know the drill. She poked and prodded and told me to take one of the meds I said didn't help and to see my primary care doctor. SERIOUSLY? No tests. No advice. No new medicine to try. Just "Try what hasn't been working and I don't know what I'm doing so ask someone else." I ended up going to a different urgent care. Ran some tests, and it turns out I just needed some antibiotics. Please choose a different location. Save your days and time in general. Staff is kind for most part and gentle. There is major disconnect in passing of information. The patient demographics are all scrambled and unorganized. This is evident from repeat completing of entry level paper work and repeated questions that are not stored properly and passed off. -There is no prudent effort to make thorough patient notes. - I'm unclear as if the reasoning for this disfunction is concentra taking over US healthnetwork or some other reason. It seems to be from core nucleus staff and superior such as head of patient care and coordination of operation passing off responsibility in a inefficient way. It's clear staff are just reciting what they have been trained to do so but when it comes down to taking responsibility and proper explanation no one is taking responsibility. When certain measures need to be taken prior to patient visits they fail to disclose what the patient needs to do to prepare for the initial visit. Making it so that multiple subsequent visits have to be made to rectify all the mishaps in the initial visit. Maria Ramirez is very sensitive and sweet and makes secondary and even tertiary efforts to be transparent and communicate. - Thank you Maria! Rowena is incompetent and I don't know how she still has her job. She hides and insulated her self behind staff who has to clean up mess for her. - rest of the staff are incompetent to say the least. Even after appointments are made the same person and multiple people will claim you never made follow up appointment. Then as I wait I see 2 other patients become livid because they have been told that they did not have appointment. As the patient sits next to me. He looks at me and says "the same person that booked my appointment told me I don't have an appointment". They also make it a point to cross reference you back to your employer and that your employer is the entity that did not disclose proper information. -Never will they own responsibility for they're disfunction- Just now as I write this another patient came out irate demanding to speak to the director and care coordinator. In a very stern but respectful manner. " what ever your she is doing I need you to interrupt her and tell her I need to speak to her" I lost my time. Total of 4 days and money I was supposed to earn on account of this establishment. -As they laugh and distract each other with what food they will eat at McDonald's.- Save your time find a different company. Tons of redundant forms to fill out... Has all of the charm of a bomb-shelter filled with characters from a Ken Kesey novel (you know the one)... The good outweighs the bad: -The office is clean and comfortable. -The front desk staff are very warm, professional, and efficient. -Dr. Wagner is lovely. He comes off as very well educated and dedicated to working with you to heal and recover. My only complaint is this, and it is biased as I am a technologist myself: the male x-ray tech needs some serious training in patient care. He did not introduce himself, so I do not know his name, there was no linen placed on his exam table, and he made no effort to carry a conversation or show any interest in who he was x-raying. I have never treated my patients like a number or as if I'm only there working for a paycheck, and that is how this tech appears to function. I would gladly receive care from Dr. Wagner any time since he creates such a comfortable environment and performs a thorough work up. Awful. I was told that I would be seen if I arrived by 5pm. That was a lie. The doors were locked before 5pm. I had even called several minutes before that I was in traffic right before the Ashby exit on the 80 and told them I would be there right at 5pm. They said that would be fine. I pushed my way after people left, and the front desk staff told me she would ask the doctor if he could see me. She disappeared for ten minutes, then came back and said he was gone for the day. The employees here are the epitome of not giving a sh*t about your job or people. I had a simple infection on my hand and only needed a prescription. Even if you have an appointment, they are always late. Thankfully this is my last appointment so I can close a work-related injury case. But even then, I'm waiting over 50 minutes just to see a doctor, say "I'm good, please close the case." I even called an hour before my appointment (no one answered) to see if I can close the case and not come in that way since I was going to be late for work if I came in and had to wait. (I'm in an exam room still waiting to be seen by someone.) There were few people in the waiting room with no obvious emergencies ahead of me, so I don't see why they're always late. They front desk ladies were always kind to me, so it's a shame they are either understaffed or just not able to see patients on time for whatever reason. Dr. Wagner did not seem to understand my situation since he at first insisted I was well enough to go back to work the next day, even though I was in severe back pain with the concern and complication of a previous intensive spinal fusion surgery. Even though I told him that my nerves are more sensitive than the average person and my pain was unbearable, he insisted that I was well enough to go back to work. I had to call out work the next day since I was in too much pain to hardly move, let alone work with the laughable light restrictions. That being said, I gave them an extra star because Reggie in Chiropractic/Physical Therapy was wonderful! He was super nice, polite, understanding, and patient. Even though he had to juggle multiple patients at the same time, he was able to focus on my needs and limitations and worked with me step-by-step. Honestly, I'll miss him because his methods worked for me on getting pain relief. A part of me wishes I could return just to work with him on improving my back pain. :) I'm just glad I pushed back on Dr. Wagner's suggestion on acupuncture therapy, not because I'm a "skeptic" as he suggested, but because of my previous back surgery that would've made it too uncomfortable and painful for the average person. I'm not a skeptic, I know it works great for most people, just not people in my specific case where nerves are permanently damaged from an intensive spinal fusion. Anyways, if your job makes you come here because of a work-related-injury, I'm sorry. It's gonna suck and be a loooong wait. Try to get Reggie from Chiropractic to work with you, if you can! Strange all the negative reviews. Normally I am very disappointed with most medical experiences like doctors, hospitals etc, but this place was great. I went in for a physical and TB test without an appointment and was seen in less than an hour both times. Everybody was very nice and helpful. There was a problem with the authorization for my exam and they went the extra mile to call around and get it for me. When I went back for the TB results I was seen in five minutes. Though the physical was perfunctory the doctor was very kind, shy even, not the typical arrogant type usually encountered. For both my visits I got there early, before 9am, that is probably the trick to getting fast service. Thank you to all at US Health Works. read more

Your first visit will be 3+ hours, but they get shorter and shorter after that. You will sometimes wait 2 hours and see the doctor for 2 minutes, and sometimes you will wait half an hour depending on how busy they are. I don't think this is a reflection of the office, rather it's just part of any worker's comp nightmare. The staff is why I keep going back. The nurses are SUPER nice and professional. Never has anyone been rude to me, with the exception of one of the physical therapy attendants, but I think she was just having a bad day. They are just extremely busy, all of the time. read more

After being a patient in the Worker's Comp arena for 6 months, I get how slow and painful the process can be while trying to get medical treatment. U.S. HealthWorks Medical Group in Berkeley is not super different than other occupational and urgent care centers. Long waits and lots of paper work...you know the drill. BUT, the people who work their make all the difference. When you go there for a visit, really make the effort to get to know the staff there (front desk and Doctors.) You won't regret it. Their staff (especially Maria and Dr. Sreedharan are exceptional at what they do. Maria couldn't have a tougher job, dealing with insurance companies and people in pain but she always follows through and makes sure to tell you to have a nice day-which you need to hear when you are in pain and trying to get through the whole process. If you can (even though there are long waits) go see Dr.Sreedharan! He helped diagnose me with something that no other Doctor could catch. I am so grateful and he is worth the wait! read more

Place has a big parking lot off 7th street. I used to live around the corner and could walk over but moved a couple yrs ago. Nice to have off street parking as 7th has a lot of businesses and can be crowded. Went in today (a Tues) about 2:30 and was seen promptly. Zero people waiting. Obviously that is not always the case - I do remember waiting 30-40 min one flu season a few yrs ago. But if your regular doctor can't see you for 3 days and you already put off going in when sick, like I do, I've found this office to be a good alternative that you can just walk into and be seen. Staff has aways been friendly and helpful to me and I've liked the doctors and nurse practitioner I have seen. read more

Blue-Cross will probably recommend you go here....don't. The one positive thing about my visit was the gentleman who took the radiograph. He was friendly and did a very nice job. And made sure my broken foot was comfortable. The negatives: long wait, rude and seemingly unknowledgeable/unhelpful doctor -- who kept trying to make me WALK with a BROKEN FOOT! DIRTY - including questionable white stain on seat of wheel chair....and just in general, uck. Let me preface by saying this is the first review I have ever given on Yelp. That's how strongly I feel about this doctor.... This is a review for and only for Dr. Jing Hsieh, the hand specialist. (I have found the PT team, especially Gina, and Dr. Jane Gardner to be fantastic.) Today, I went to a follow up appt with Dr. Hsieh... Here are my thoughts... She clearly hadn't made any effort into remembering my case because she wrote me an identical prescription for a wrist brace I already tried and didn't like. She never looked at my wrist or arm, not even for a second. (Even though she dedicates an entire 6-10 minutes to you!) She told me my pain was not activity preventing. (Even though I have had to quit my computer job and shift my career entirely. Even though, I can't scrub the toilet without being in pain for hours or answer any emails for more than and hour or two without being in pain for the rest of the day.) I told her I had new numbness in my wrist, so she told me that I should stop wearing my brace because thats what was doing it. (Even though she didn't look at the brace or my wrist or want to know where the numbness was) Oh and then later telling me all I can do to get better is wear said brace. She told me, surgery will never help me and I have to just live with this pain for the rest of my life, but it's "not that bad because it doesn't affect your daily life activities." On the work status report she selected "IMPROVED AS EXPECTED" Even though she never looked at my injury or tested anything except for a hand grip. When I brought this up she said "When you have been doing this for 30 years, you can tell." Uh...what? Needless to say, I walked out in a huff and will never recommend her or return to her again. Good Luck to those subject to her cold, ineffective guidance, and care. I urge you to get a second opinion. read more

EDITING IN: I've returned for a follow-up visit since I wrote the original review, and I found the situation significantly improved. I discovered that the specialties coordinator, who came in for the worst of my criticism below, was out on medical leave for the period when I wasn't getting phone calls returned. She's hardly accountable for the incompetence of the person covering her. The person who IS accountable for that is the center manger, who, I found out, has been dismissed. Good riddance. All in all, improvements are being made. Raising rating to two stars. -------------------------------------- I agree with Spratt about the physical therapists. Alex and Gina (especially Gina) are really good. And the people doing intake at the main medical desk can be very helpful too, especially Heather. And the place does seem to be kept reasonably clean. That's about it for the positives, though. I've seen three doctors there. The main one, a middle-aged white man of about medium height, is a nincompoop: surly in manner, cursory in his examinations, and clearly disinterested in providing anything other than out-of-the-box treatment. He's a paper-pusher with an M.D. The other two doctors I've seen have been better, one only marginally, and one significantly. The latter, a younger Asian-American guy, was great. He asked probing questions, examined me thoroughly, and suggested various tests. Unfortunately, I saw him only because the main guy was on vacation. I finally got referred to a specialist, who was better than the main guy at least. Dr. Mirza is personable on the surface, but he didn't seem very interested in actually listening to what I had to say. I have a shoulder problem, and he kept trying to treat me for wrist problems. Whoops. When I finally told him that what had really worked in the past was massage therapy, and asked if I could get some, he readily agreed--leaving me to wonder, if it was such a good idea, why hadn't he suggested it? Because it's expensive, of course. (It didn't help matters that after telling me that my request would have to be reviewed by some anonymous board, and that I shouldn't get my hopes up, he further told me how much he personally enjoys getting massages from their therapists. I think it would be nice if US Healthworks offered their patients the same treatments enjoyed by their physicians.) Anyway, that's the medical staff. Sound bad? Well, wait until you get to the specialties coordinator. She's magnificiently incompetent. On my first visit, I showed up on time to find no one working the specialties desk. I waited twenty minutes before she finally shuffled into view, apparently completely unhurried. She told me in the surliest imaginable way that someone would be with me shortly. How, I wondered, would she know that, since she can't even know what I'm there for? When twenty-five minutes later I was finally told to come up to the desk, I was told to go to room 1. Which room was that? There were no numbers on the doors. So I had to come back. In the meanwhile, the specialties coordinator has struck up a lively conversation with the UPS guy, and is ignoring me. I finally interrupt as courteously as I can and she huffs and walks me back to room 1 (hidden in the back). I go in and, oops, another patient is in there. THEY HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT HIM. So I had to sit back down and wait for that patient to be examined. They must've done a real thorough job, since I only had to wait about five minutes (good for me, bad for him). Anyway, I finally got into the room and had the conversation about massage therapy that I related above. I was told that it would take a week for the board to review my request, and that I should call the office in a week. Fast forward to the day. I call the office. And the specialties coordinator explains to me that she is only just then getting around to submitting the requests. She promises me they'll be done that day. Needless to say, I am not feeling reassured. Another week elapses. I call back. I get voice mail. I leave a message, which is never returned. Fed up, I call the center manager to complain. I get voice mail, leave a message. This, too, is never returned. It'll be three weeks this Thursday, and no one from the center has ever called me back. I tried to leave a message for the specialties coordinator again today; her voice mailbox is full. So I guess I'm not the only one having these problems. The center manager? We'll see if he ever calls back. I'm not crossing my fingers. This review has definitely veered toward a rant, but I figure it's useful to have details about the kind of experience you're in for if you should be unfortunate enough to have to deal with the people here. Not impressed with the care I received here. I had several puncture wounds to my arm and had to wait an hour while dripping blood in the waiting room. When I finally did see Dr. Anderson, he barely examined my injuries. I expressed concern that since I had pain radiating into my hand that there was tendon or nerve damage, he didn't even palpate my hand to determine if there was tendon or nerve damage. When using the antiseptic, he only poured it on some of my wounds and then immediately rinsed it off - any antiseptic needs contact time to be effective. Most medical professional recommend 10 minutes of contact time. He then placed a really horrible/shoddy bandage over my arm that was slipping off and coming undone before I left the building, the receptionist had to find me some tape to hold it together. Lastly, the antibiotic I was given did not even have any instructions listed on the bottle (is this even legal?) - I had to ask the receptionist, who then had to ask the doctor - like a game of telephone I don't even know if the dose was correct. I had to come back for 3 follow up visits, with various different doctors. Each visit took a long time. I'd arrive 15 minutes before my appointment time and would still end up waiting 30 minutes past my appointment time before seeing the doctor. The medical assistants (No RNs here) were pretty poor - when you go into the exam room they take your blood pressure with a monitor. On one visit my systolic read 185 (which would be a medical emergency) ! She didn't even bat an eye and would have let it go except I asked her to take it again - the second recording said 130 The location is not easy to find and parking is difficult. On four visits, only once did they have an empty spot in their parking lot, other times I had to park a block or two away on the street. The only saving grace for this place is Dr. Chen - he was the only doctor that genuinely seemed to take an interest in my condition and took the time to more thoroughly examine my injuries, and listen to my concerns. Poor service. I wish there was an option for 0 star. Always have to wait for so long even when the appointment time is scheduled. I understand 5-10 or even 15mins delay but waiting for an hour is too long. The whole time gets messed up. Highly dissatisfied. read more

First time here for a check up, I found this place on my insurance website, my experience is beyond bad. The front desk people are lazy, not professional, super super bad attitude, no manner. This person should just work as a bath room cleaner because shitty attitude belongs in the bathroom. Not will to contact my insurance company, made me drove home to find the phone number when she can just turn her lazy head over and look at the numbers posted on the wall! Trying to ask me to pay more money for visit when my insurance company told me no need to pay that much. You know what, this place made DMV customer service look good! Never ever ever ever ever visit this place!! You will be doing yourself a favor, because you might get more sicker after visit this place!! read more

I had a similar experience as Spratt with a US Healthworks office in Seattle. Absolutely incompetent front-office staff and a terrible experience, all-around. I will never use them again. read more
