I had an old MacBook that finally gave up. I went to Computers For Change and got a newer model, (MacBook Air), they did a fantastic job in transferring data which turned out to be a little challenging due to the age and applications on the old MacBook. Loved the service so much I bought Sam a cookie! I brought my laptop in that the hard drive had died on, Sam was able to retrieve my portfolio of photo's put them on my new laptop and recycle my old laptop for me. Based on a phone call, they have terrible, but TERRIBLE customer service! Never mind, competency at actually FIXING a problem, we never got that far as the person that answered the phone told me he was busy and hung up before I could respond. So, taking my business elsewhere as I won't bother them further. No excuse for this type of behavior towards customers! I hope the owner sees this and trains his staff to respond to potential customers better than this. This was one of the worst experiences I have had with a retailer. They sold me a machine that barely lasted 6 months,(and needs a new logic board) Then on top of it when I queried about the problem, I was dismissed and told to call back a week later. This is a small, locally owned computer repair shop specializing in repair & refurbishing of Windows and Apple laptop computers. The proprietor (Sam) is very high-integrity & knows the equipment. His fees are very reasonable--he told me he averages about $100 in labor charges + parts to repair anything that's readily fixed on a broken laptop. He can easily handle most common repairs, clean, install software, replace parts and remove viruses for that fee. If he can't do it for that, he'll advise you about your options before you run up a big repair bill. (Most shops will barely even give you the time of day for that fee.) If you love your laptop & want it fixed, he'll do his best to accommodate. If your laptop is busted beyond hope, you can trade it in for a credit for the parts & buy a refurbished laptop there, at a very fair price. He has a decent inventory of refurbished PC models such as Dell, HP and Acer models, as well as Apple Macbooks and Macbook Pros for sale. His refurbished laptops are priced from $129 to $699. What's truly awesome is that he sells his used laptops with a 1-year warranty! Apparently, he does a lot of business with local students & working class freelancers who are looking for a fair price for repairs & upgrades. I recently brought in a 5 year old Macbook Pro that another local shop (Small Dog) had diagnosed as having a bad hard drive & possibly other problems. They clearly didn't spend much time on it, and the repair invoice had no specifics. I wanted a 2nd opinion before committing over $400 to that repair & asked him to check it out. He was too busy to look at it that moment, but suggested I try wiping the hard drive, reformatting it & reinstalling the OS. Since I'm unfamiliar with that process, he explained it to me & showed me how to start. That actually got it running again & it's run beautifully since. I offered to pay him for his time & trouble but he wouldn't take any money, since I did the actual work. This gives you a glimpse into how this guy runs his business. If you've got a laptop & you need it fixed, consider bringing it to his little shop at 196 College St., across from the Burlington Free Press building in downtown Burlington. In this throw-away culture we live in, it's inspiring to do business with someone who does his best to avoid putting more e-waste in the landfill, while keeping you productive at a price you can afford. read more

My review is not going to be positive. Have you ever gone to a place where you don't really know anything and have to rely on trust in getting something fixed or a new purchase, like a car or computer? Well these guys where no help and then on top of it were condescending! I felt stupid and after spending over 500 on a computer and the little help I was given I'll never go back! And who are they helping anyway anyone ever asked ? What's being changed? Anyway they hate Mac computers so don't go there for Mac advice , I even had a skin for my iPad Pro and they wouldn't put it on !!! Go to Winooski to the computer place on main , All Systems Repair , they will do the work same quality 30% less!! When you don't have to pay Church Street rent it helps! I came here to get a computer because I wanted a mac and I didn't want to pay a thousand dollars. I settled for a macbook whose case was falling apart. I was told that I could not exchange, but the manager took my case and ended up helping me out. I paid 200 dollars more for the computer that I chose, and I am happy with it, but the charger is a cheap knock off of a mac charger. This morning I went to pack it to take to school and it literally just fell apart in my hand. So now I have to go to an apple store and pay 80 bucks for a new one, because I don't have time to wait for one on ebay. In the end, I'm going to end up paying about 800 dollars on all of this, and I am not sure if it's worth it... read more

After my mac was dying quickly, I decided to check this place out to find a used replacement. They were able to take my almost dysfunctional computer and give me a trade-in amount that went towards my "new" mac. The computer I got was really clean, fast and three months later -- everything is still great with it. The year warranty they include is also nice for security. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The service was quick. We'll be going back this week to this place to get my husband a "new" computer. read more

This place has been a customer service nightmare. Yesterday, I literally had an employee fake amnesia to get out of helping me! It was the creepiest thing! I pre-purchased a computer that was still being refurbished and was told that it would be ready in a day. Several days later, I called to arrange a curbside pickup, told them what computer was mine, and gave them my name. The guy I talked to briefly put me on hold, and then said it would be no problem, and he could just hand me my computer outside. I said I would be there within 5 minutes - when I arrived minutes later, the man I had just talked to on the phone pretended to have absolutely no idea who I was, or why I was there. So, I walked up to the counter with my ID and clearly re-stated why I was there, only to get a blank stare. He then asked if I had brought an old computer in to be fixed! I quickly left because the air in the shop was so thick with disinfectant fumes, which I am allergic to and can pass out from (I had a health reason to request curbside y'all). The man in the shop called me back a little while later, to say that he "couldn't actually find any computers with my name one them" and "apologized for being cautious." He never acknowledged that I had just been at the shop! Apparently "being cautious" means acting like you have amnesia, to the point that your customers feel genuinely creeped out! Yikes! read more

SO much better than the box stores. Because Apple won't fix certain issues on a Mac that's more than six years old, the local Apple store steered me in CFC direction. Brett is incredible. Not only did he fix my computer both times, resulting in lightning speed, but he treated this ridiculously clueless customer with kindness and respect. He was able to dumb it down enough for my technically-challenged self to understand. The cost of saving my Mac was extremely fair. This local business is a gem! read more

Called computers for change on saturday sept 17 2016 , got no answer , went to the store at 196 college street at 10 am and of course they were not open, wanted to check on the status of my computer which was at their shop for a WEEK. These guys are cheap, but they are also very shady. They insist on cash, no checks, no debit/credit cards. they replaced my hard drive with one that had 1/4 the storage capacity of the one I originally had, they loaded a bunch of software I didn't want and in general were very evasive answering questions. I also brought my son's Mac in for a new battery and when I went to pay for it, the cost was much higher than the original quote. I would not trust them one bit and will NEVER do business with them again. read more

They took my son's 50 shades of lemon Mac in trade for a newer refurbished Mac at aprice he could afford.Very transparent about the pluses and minuses of each of the models they had for sale. They were great about transferring the data and took time with my son to show him a few procedures he was shaky about on his Mac.Basically - knowledgeable, genuine customer service-what a pleasant surprise. read more

I'm pretty sure I am never going to be buying a computer from Computers for Change again. I had gotten a laptop less than a year ago from these clowns and since then I have had computer memory issues where if there is a major upgrade my computer stalls, crashes, and I am required to take it in. The first time I took it in it was suggested that I had a virus on my laptop and when the tech even checked the computer over and fixed it with it's "numerous issues" I didn't get even affirmation that there hadn't been a virus. The second time, most recently, I had brought in my computer again for the same issue. After being bullied into agreeing with the store that they were wasting their time by a clean install because of screen issues I was having when I checked to see if I could sell it back to them they let me know no but if I wanted to dump my laptop they could "ecycle" essentially meaning getting the parts back from me for FREE. I am annoyed and feeling pretty much like this small business is kinda a big fail right here. read more
