Within 24 hours of picking up my laptop, I spent hours on the phone with AppleCare removing a beta software from two operating systems ago. As soon as that was completed, I realized that the laptop did not connect to the internet properly and spent another two hours on the phone with AppleCare. A cross-country move later, Apple Genius Bar told me the WiFi cables inside my laptop had never been properly reconnected, which they then did for me in addition to standard operating checks, which the computer failed. I didn't have time for further repairs as I started graduate school the next day. The computer is still far from functioning well and I now have to pay Apple to redo the job that LCS didn't complete. I've been extremely disappointed in the customer service response from this company and would recommend it to no one.

I found Your IT Dept through Yelp when my fav laptop physically crashed to the ground. Fortunately…read moreit's a Toshiba and solid as a rock, but the screen wouldn't turn on, and the directions for tearing it down to test it were just too complicated. (Turned out I needed a new LED screen entirely; the last step in the testing process. So glad I didn't attempt the repair on my own!) They had it done in no time for cheap, plus cleaned out the entire laptop (tore it down, wiped out the keyboard, etc) for no extra. Runs better now than it did before. And their ideas for the future of their company are innovative; I'm excited they're in the area and do local repairs (and sell nicely refurbished, all-legal computers and peripherals), as well as work the larger companies in Charlottesville, Lynchburg, etc. They give you a card, stay in touch through email or phone, and work fast. Worth the visit and a bookmark imo, esp for what they WANT to do with wireless in the future. I got some GREAT ideas from them to save money and get faster internet. I'm a W&L college student, but unlike many other students, I'm on complete financial aid with limited (if any) support from my parents. I tried over and over to get my "stupid, useless" laptop to turn on, but of course it did not. At around 7:30 pm I started calling IT companies even though I knew I wouldn't be able to afford any repairs. I had no luck until I called Your IT Department, who miraculously picked up the phone at 8 pm on a Saturday (I'm from Chicago, that's just simply unheard of). Though their prices are extremely reasonable, with my situation it would not be possible for me to pay upfront. Upon expressing this concern and asking about payment plans to the owner, Matt, he simply laughed and said "don't worry, we'll take care of you". By 9:30 they had met me to pick up my laptop and begin repairs. They were super nice and very reassuring that I would have the data I needed recovered (I was mildly freaking out, the philosophy proposal for the 15-20 page final philosophy paper worth 60% of the final grade was lost somewhere on my oh-so-broken laptop and had not been backed up anywhere else - on top of this I'm a writer and none of my incoherent babblings are backed up anywhere else either). I can't describe how grateful I am for the compassion of Your IT Department; not only was this the most efficient and exceptional service that I had ever received, but they had a complete understanding for my particular situation and were willing to work with me still, something most places would scoff at in our "wonderful" capitalistic society. My computer was finished with all repairs by Sunday night, which I can only describe as either remarkable or magic - they must have used magic - since I didn't even hear back from other IT places in town until Monday afternoon. When I got it back, it was in better condition than before (I'm serious, magic is at work here), and all my data was recovered. The store was bright, friendly, had kids toys out, and smelled wonderful. I was immediately impressed. The man welcomed me right away, although he was helping someone else. He looked at my phone and gave me instant hope that he would be able to fix it. He suggested it was the battery, and that I leave it and he'll call me with options and diagnosis. He also informed me of the $10 diagnosis charge which i thought was very fair. He messaged my Bfs number in about an hour, said it wasn't the battery it was the screen and gave me two options, a more reasonable priced one and a more expense one. Appreciated the options. When I came back to pick the phone up, the store was pretty busy, but he recognized me right away and had my phone ready to go. When you suddenly lose access to your cell phone, you're in a very vulnerable state and I'm very thankful their stores like this you can walk into and find somebody that can help you. I always felt bad for the people that would come in to test already stressed out and nervous only to be talked to like trash. I would seat people for their tests and whisper "good luck" to them. It was overheard and I was reprimanded for it. Stating that all I had to do was seat them and nothing else. I left before the pandemic shut everything down and found employment elsewhere. I also bore the brunt of the meanness and it got to the point that I could no longer take it. She was probably going to fire me anyway. I would not recommend this branch to anyone.

He spent a good bit of time trying to get my laptop to boot up and eventually removed the hard drive and battery to take them to his home workshop so he could retrieve my info and put it on my thumb drive. He rang me in the evening to say that sadly the hard drive was corrupt and couldn't be accessed. The battery had begun to bow upward, so it was a goner too. In his opinion the 7 year old machine wasn't worth fixing because at that age things would just keep going wrong. Kinda like a used car. In the end he didn't charge me a penny because he wasn't able to fix my machine! How often does that happen?!! So if you have a PC that is giving you trouble and you want someone to come to you, definitely give Ken a call. You won't regret it.
