Comptoir Libanais has a super colorful atmosphere unlike any restaurant I've visited before, and it offers a menu of beautifully-presented Lebanese food in a casual setting. The Mezze Platter was a sampler plate of a bunch of different items including hummus, baba ghanouj, labne, tabbouleh, cheese sambousek, pickles, and a plain Greek-style flatbread. I also got an order of the same flatbread topped with a flavorful mixture of za'atar and garlic mixed with olive oil, and this went particularly well with the creamy labne. Next, I had the Mixed Grill plate, which came with a skewer each of lamb kofta, chicken kofta, and chicken taouk (breast meat), served with Comptoir Salad (shredded red cabbage and carrots). The food is nice for what Central London has to offer. Me and my friend came in because after a long walk around central London we were very hungry and wanted something filling. We came across Comptoir Libanais and they had a Lunch takeaway deal going on. We enquired and just went in to eat. The food was amazing and came literally about 7 minutes after we had ordered. We both ordered a chicken shawarma with pita bread, salad and hummus all for about 15 pounds. Now that's a steal for central London. It was flavourful and we loved every bit of it. The service was amazing as well. The atmosphere of the place was really nice to and matched the food. Overall, this was a great spot for a filling meal in central London. read more

At the risk of sounding like I might have synaesthesia, the phrase that immediately sprang to mind when I first walked into Comptoir Libanais was 'cacophony of colour'! I was struck by the vibrancy of colour in the food, the surroundings and even the patrons seemed colourful. I'm always hampered by the fact that I usually visit after having eaten at nearby Cocoro and am therefore feeling a little full. However, as the desserts in Asian cooking aren't usually to the standard of their starters and main courses, I usually pick up some cake or Lebanese pastries to sate any sweet cravings. I'm also addicted to their fresh juices and home made lemonades - pomegranate & orange blossom and lemon & lime are my favourite. They do more sunstantial meals too like tagines but the main vibe seems to be largely cafe culture when I'm in there. read more

To be totally honest, if my wife hadn't told me, I wouldn't even know this was a chain..and that is a very good sign! I really enjoyed our lunch here last Saturday. The place looks very warm and welcoming, with all those flashy colours made of various pickle pots and Harissa cans (those famous Yellow ones, "Phare du Cap Bon"...and how cool & simple is that? Using packaging and products you use as decoration items. As I was curious, I made a quick research online and read Comptoir Libanais' story: "It's food that's affordable and easy to know - healthy, light and you can enjoy it every day of the week...somewhere you can eat casually, with no fuss", and that is exactly what it is. One falafel - seriously? I'd come to Comptoir Libanais as it came highly recommended by a colleague of mine. And given that I am currently on the hunt for that best lunch-spot in Marylebone, I'd gladly followed his advise. Before I now tell you the story of the one falafel, let me put it all into perspective: my colleagues and I had been religious followers of Pilpel in St. Paul's area...and when my colleague mentioned to me that this might be our new Pilpel, my hopes were, of course, set very high. And I actually quite liked what I had: I had the meze platter for one and for take-away. It basically is babaganoush, hummus, tabbuleh, falafel, some kind of samoso and pita bread. Sounds good...and it actually all tasted good too. But here's where the story turned ugly: when I discovered that they'd given me one falafel! Can I just say it again: one, eine, uno, un, een falafel. And why did that upset me so much? Because I'm spoiled...because at Pilpel you get 6 falafels with your salad/pita sandwich! I know, I know, this is Marylebone and everything is more expensive...but seriously...one falafel? Unfortunately this place has gone downhill since my last visit. Kitchen was out of chicken at 8pm (how do you run out of that??!!) and then there was a small kitchen fire or something burned which smoked out the whole restaurant. My entire wardrobe needs to be cleaned now, but no offer to pay or even apologize for the issue. Should have just walked out as the food is not impressive and now a bit overpriced. Iced tea was awful due to 10x too much lemon. I'll be generous with 2* to recognize the nice table staff. But won't be back. read more

Disclaimer: Lebanese food is not my favorite. I've been here twice now, and both times have left me happy in some ways and annoyed in others. I personally don't intend to go back. The first time, I went with a bunch of friends, and everyone really enjoyed their food -- including me, to my surprise. I had chicken sambousek, some sort of yummy egg dish, and a to-die-for frozen lemonade on a hot day. ...however, then a little brown mouse started scurrying all over, and kind of killed my enjoyment of the meal. I. Hate. Mice. Objectively, I realize that they're probably in more kitchens than I'd like to know (and I've had a certain pesky little one in my own), and that it shouldn't really impact my opinion of the place. I likely would've been able to look past it -- except when we pointed it out to the (completely inattentive) waitress, she just shrugged. She made no attempt to shoo it away or give us a break on the bill or anything. Last night, I decided I should get over my mouse incident and give it another try. My mom really enjoys Lebanese food, so she instantly jumped at the opportunity to go here. However, both she and I were underwhelmed with the food. Her lentil soup was too salty, and both of our chicken sambouseks were dry. I also ordered a halloumi cheese dish that felt like it needed sauce of some sort. But when I asked for a sauce, the (again, completely inattentive) waiter looked at me like I had two heads. This was after I'd had to get up from my seat to flag him down, as he hadn't checked on us once after bringing the food. He disappeared again when we were trying to pay the check (which, my mom pointed out, wasn't all that cheap). The one redeeming part was again the lemonade: I think I may just need to go there for all refreshing drinks I ever want to have in my life. read more

I was attracted with the colours of the cafe. With limited seating, and you'll end up sitting on the comptoir to eat. The food is 3.5/5 rating for me. I find that the tabouleh was a bit sour for me. I enjoyed the falafel good but not great. Great coffee and nice desserts. I like that they have a store where you can shop for Middle Eastern groceries such as jams, olive oils, Harissa sauce, and some interesting souvenirs. For the quality of food and affordable price. This place is pretty good! I'd go back. I ordered the mezze platter and others ordered the chicken tagine and the sarine salad. We all liked the food and the atmosphere. Service was friendly. The only issue we had was that portion sizes are pretty small. We had to order an additional mezze platter to feel full. Most items were very flavorful and everything felt very clean and healthy. The labneh was light and a little bit bland (tasted just like greek yogurt) and the falafel was a bit dry... but everything else was super tasty and delicious. Rave reviews over the tagine dish. During my trip to the UK, my boyfriend and I stayed in South Kensington with our friends who are also New Yorkers. We were desperately trying to find some really good food that wouldn't put too much of a dent in our wallets. Our friends suggested a local Lebanese place they frequent - Comptoir Libanais. This local Lebanese restaurant hit the spot. Since it was late, I opted for a Fattoush salad, which was really good. Fresh vegetables, a bright dressing, and pieces of crisp pita bread all together in a colorful plate. I was very pleased with my meal. My friend and my boyfriend needed more food than a salad can offer and decided on the lamb & prune tangine and the lamb kofta tangine. The boys looked happy as they devoured their meals. Each plate was masterfully prepared in a clay dish with an assortment of rice, vegetables, the lamb, and other ingredients. We were a bit indecisive when it came to choosing a dessert, so we opted for the assortment of 5 different pastries. While the pastries were all somewhat similar, composed of honey and nuts, they were all a little different. This is a great place to get a delicious, low-key and reasonably priced meal. read more

Bright lights, bright colours, and lots of sugar? That's all it took to make little 6 year old me happy and to be honest it still does the job 20 years later. Comptoir Libanais has all of the key ingredients for an exuberant meal with friends or a lively date. Quite simply, it's a Lebanese themed restaurant and shop with a moderate food menu and a full range of desserts and teas. The baklava (of which there are 6 types) is fresh tasting even at 9pm and the rose and mint tea was delicious. It's not a large place (enough seats for about 30 tops) but they are happy for you to stay as long as you wish. And it's bright enough to be seen from space so no excuses that you couldn't find it! I don't have too much more to say (for once...yeah I heard you say it) but I do think the cheesecake deserves a mention. It was recommended to us by the hostess as being their signature item. It's a light white chocolate cheesecake with a mango glaze topping. The topping is tasty and sweet although more processed than fresh mango flavour (not bad...but could be a tad better if you could get that sparkle from a fresh mango). The cheesecake though is incredibly light and fluffy yet firm enough to give texture to each forkful. Exactly how this is accomplished, I don't know....yet. The hostess checked in with us later to see how we enjoyed it (nice to know they do follow up on their recommendations). Overall, an excellent end to the night! read more

Judging a book by its cover is never a good approach in life.... but don't be fooled by Le Comptoirs shiny mirrored and glasshouse feel - you are greeted with what sounds like traditional Lebanese music, but after 20 minutes of this, you realise it is a repetitive bunch of Middle Eastern clashes, bings and bangs... The hunger pangs set in, and my tummy is rumbling - for starter, we opt for the Lamb Kibbeh - with little description other than "Classic Middle Eastern mezze bites served warm": When you break into these odd shaped Kibbehs, you are left to enjoy a very dry crumbling lamb mess, which the yoghurt and mint dip does not help in the slightest. The 'binging' of the microwave helped add to the headachey music, and gave little reassurance that the main course would be any better. Chicken Kofta Wrap alongside hommos (yes, that was their spelling), tabbouleh and Comptoir salad & pickles! - for the main course. The kofta is unsurprisingly dry, lacking the punch and flavour, and defeated by my local kebabish. The tabbouleh lacks key elements of mint, onion and the binding of bulgur wheat - Marks and Spencer's version is much better! Oh dear.... not nailing the Lebanese experience are we Comptoir? Having said that, the salad was the most fresh part of the plate, with an interesting dressing. But if this is the highlight of the meal..... In conclusion - avoid this restaurant - it may look authentic with the colourful cultural pieces, enticing-later-headache-music and bright interior - but it is far from !! read more

Went here for lunch today - I had... Mint tea: love that it's served in teapots with cute little glasses and a fresh sprig of mint Apple/Lemon/Ginger/Mint? juice: - mmmmmmmmmm - SO refreshing. I'm going to have to go back and try more of their juices. Lentil Soup: Tasty. Soul warming. Good comfort food - normally served in a breadbowl, but I'm not a bread bowl kind of gal. Cheese Sambousek: now these litter buggers were delicious. On their own, they had great flavor, but paired with the creamy spicy red-sauce and they were to die for. The atmosphere was light, colorful and lunchy, and they had a continuous line... so that's always a pretty good indication of a 'safe' spot. read more

I have since been back and have every intention of returning and making sure my friends know about it and go there with me. It's a cheerful and welcoming setting offering inexpensive and tasty food. The tagines and the meze are awesome and the rose water and orange blossom macaroons are amazing! Despite the upscale shops and well heeled foot traffic, I find the stretch of Wigmore Street where Comptoir Libanais is located to offer rather bleak options with respect to dining. This mideast eatery is, thus, a refreshing and very welcome addition to the area! Yummy. read more

It was a runner-up in the Best Design Restaurant Category of Time Out's Eating and Drinking Guide 2010 and reviewed previously as one of the best BYOB eateries in London. Brightly coloured, and impeccably decorated, Comptoir Libanais has the warmest and friendliest staff I have encountered for quite some time. Following a lovely dinner and cookery demonstration by Kumiko Kurihara in nearby John Lewis, I was excited to try this little gem even if I was only to try their assortment of baklava and mint tea. These were both excellent, particularly the mint tea which was very aromatic with delicate hints of rose petal. It had not been previously sweetened, as it is normally served and drunk, making it a perfect partner to my plate of nutty baklava. I got a small tab le outside and soon got chatting to some of the customers popping out to smoke. The clientele is young, fashionable and interesting giving the place a real buzz. I had a short but rather sweet time at Comptoir Libanais, and am now looking forward to returning & trying some of their delicious meze, and tagines (and bringing my own wine!). Verdict A real gem serving simple but beautiful Levantine food, cakes and tea. Impeccably decorated, and as a BYO eatery, it is also an affordable restaurant option for a full meal. I will return. To my mind Comptoir Libanais offers the pinnacle of fast, fine dining experiences in London. Its superfresh and fragrant middle eastern offerings my favourites are the chicken and cous cous salad, tagines and apple and mint juice put the likes of Pret and Eat in the shade. No wonder the chain has scooped Time Out London's 'best £10 meal' award. It's part deli, part café, part bazaar, with raffia bags on display and cutlery proffered in recycled Lebanese food tins. The comptoir is designed in such a way you feel like lingering and mingling. Perch around the counters or take a table further back. Service is speedy and the prices reasonable. Found this little gem strolling around Soho trying to find somewhere to eat for dinner. The food is really delicious. There is a wide and varied selection of delicious drinks and smoothies, a great selection of vegetarian and meat appetizers and entrees, and some really delicious desserts including baklawa and frozen yogurt. The ambiance is also really cool and quite casual. Nice place to go for a meal with a friend. The reason that I gave it 3 stars is because the service was apalling. I do not know if we just got unlucky, or if the staff was new but the waiters never checked on us and it was extremely hard to get their attention to order something. Also, when I asked for an explanation for one of the foods, the waiter did not know and had to go and ask one of his colleagues what it was! I think that staff should be well versed in what all the food is. One of the staff could not even pronounce the name of the food. However, I would still recommend you try this restaurant - hopefully you get better service than we did! Love, love this place! Great quality at a very decent price. Pretty interior decoration and an extensive menu that can make everyone happy. I had the lamb kibbeh once and it was delicious. The yogurt sauce was tasty and the meat well cooked. Another time I had the same type of dish the mussaka (aubergine instead of meat). One star off: could go a bit lighter on the oil. This is a lovely little cafe, highly convenient for a stop off after an afternoon in Selfridges. The first few visits were fabulous, with my girlfriend and I salivating over the possibility of their excellent babaganoush. The food however is the the most distinctly average Lebanese food I've ever had, and they charge way too much for what it is. If you're in the area, you might as well stroll down to Edgware road. Met up with a old friend in Comptoir Libanais on a sunny summer Tuesday evening, after picking it up as a recommended "cheap eat" by Time Out. the first thing that hits you is the stylish and colourful interior. It feels a bit more like a casual lunch venue than an evening meal restaurant. Even so, our waitress was warm and gentle. My cheese parcel followed by ginger baklawa was delicious and fresh. They do an excellent line in soft drinks too, including some good looking smoothies. I chose this restaurant because it was a charming outdoor bistro on a nice pedestrian street and the food looked interesting. It was delicious. 2 kids meals were a great deal. Dessert and coffee were delicious. Service was fine. Perfect for dining with friends, the restaurant itself is very busy and crowded, but this adds to the fun atmosphere. The walls are adorned with interesting things to look at, and the food and drinks were superb.
