We have compost cab and it's great. We put our food scraps in their bucket, put it out on the curb every week and they get them. Not expensive, good customer service, and they leave bags and rubber bands for you when you're close to running out. Their customer service was great, until I chose to cancel =/. They never replied to me and ended up charging the full amount for two months, after only five pickups. $32/month is high for composting in Baltimore. Check for local alternatives first. I found a local grocery store which takes will accept a full bucket dropoff for $3. read more

I've been composting with Compost Cab since February 2011 -- about 9 months - and I'd say their services are as good as it gets if you're an apartment dweller and have no way of composting yourself. They provide a great bucket and a compostable liner where you put your compostables and then they pick it up every week from outside your door. the bucket is great because as long as it's closed it doesn't smell at all. also its non-descript enough so that nobody's taken it even though it sits outside my apartment building every Wednesday while I'm away at work. Jeremy (founder/owner) has always been very responsive, if I ever forget to put my bucket out or when I need to let him know I'm out of town. I email him about once a month and he always gets back to me right away. I'd definitely recommend Compost Cab to anybody looking for a non-smelly way to compost while living in an apartment (or place without a backyard) in DC. read more

I signed up for Compost Cab in May 2011, and used their service happily until I left DC in September. Living in an apartment without access to a backyard or a community garden, this was such a great solution for making sure that all my leftover food and scraps didn't go to waste. The service is extremely reasonably priced - about $1 a day, or $32 a month. This covers delivery of a sealable compost bucket with a biodegradable liner during the first month, and replacement of the liner during each weekly pick-up. This system ensures that your compost doesn't smell. Weekly pick-up happened during the day, so I'd just bring my bucket to my building's trash pick-up area before I left for work that morning, and take it back in the evening. Couldn't be simpler! The compost is delivered to an urban farm near DC, which also makes this a nice way to support urban farming if you don't have time to get involved otherwise. The only reason I've given 4 stars instead of 5 is for a slight error in billing - my PayPal auto-pay wasn't immediately turned off after I told the company that I was leaving DC. However, the owner was quite responsive when the error was discovered, and gave me a full refund. On the whole, I've been really satisfied with this service, and would recommend it to anyone who's interested in supporting urban agriculture or simply reducing the amount of food waste they produce. read more
