I was looking for a place to laminate 4 business card size papers and 2 half page size papers (small items). I called ahead to ask if they did lamination. A man answered the phone and said they did. So, I headed there. I walked in and it looked very clean and professional, but not like a place where they do small little lamination jobs. I asked the girl at the front desk, "Do y'all do small jobs like this?" I pulled out the 6 small papers to show her. She said yes. She said it would be a few minutes, so I went to wait in my car. When I came in to pay, I asked how much it was going to be. She said, "We have a $20 minimum." I was surprised that this was JUST NOW being told to me. I asked, "How much would it have been?" She said, "$20." (What I wanted to know was if there wasn't a minimum, how much would it have cost, but I left it alone.) I paid and left. It wasn't until a little later after I started thinking about it that I became bothered by what had happened. At any time when I first called to ask if they did lamination and when I walked in and asked if they did small jobs like the 6 small pieces of paper I brought in could they have said, "Oh, by the way, it's a $20 minimum for any job," but it wasn't until AFTER the job was done that they mentioned it at which it was already too late for me to decide whether or not I wanted to have it done there. I called back to express my disappointment. The same man answered that answered the first time I called. I told him I was upset that it was not brought to my attention beforehand that there was a $20 minimum. Smugly, he said, "Well actually, it's a $25 minimum, but I told her to give it to you for $20," as if he did me a huge favor. He said he would "make a note" of my complaint to make sure customers are aware ahead of time. I hung up. This did not feel like a transparent business transaction. I could have gotten this done for $4 at Staples. Granted, I should have asked, but I expect to be treated w/ honesty and straightforwardness when I go to any business and not feel suckered into paying something that I probably would not have agreed to had I been fairly forewarned. It is poor business etiquette. I will not be going back to them for anything else (not that they will miss my patronage anyway). A couple of the cards size papers came out warped, too. If you're gonna charge $20 for a $4 job, at least make sure it's perfect. read more
