gap that has formed between wood (new wood added by contractor)

This is a delayed review. We had our floors done in July 2022. We've been incredibly unhappy since the day they were finished. Immediately there were gaps between wood. There was a step that they had to rebuild as a banister was removed, it appears to be coming away from the original build. And the step that they removed carpeting from has a significant gap between step and carpet. I addressed this with Adam before they left on the final day. His suggestion was that WE go to Home Depot to get a quarter round trim piece. I expressed concern that it would not be the same finish. He said he'd bring by a small portion of stain so WE could finish the quarter round. I never heard from him again. And also - if the job you are quoting will require quarter round, seems like it should be included in the job. One of our steps from up into our kitchen is so worn, the floors look like they are ten years beyond being finished rather than three and a half years. The really frustrating part is that the worn spot was there from the get-go and has just gotten worse over time. When Adam quoted the job, I specifically told him the reason we were having our floors refinished (and then carpet pulled up and replaced with wood floors in the family room) was due to my frustration with gaps that had formed between wood over time. He knew this was a motivation in getting the floors refinished. When I asked about gaps I saw on the day the job was finished, again his suggestion was that WE go to Home Depot to get some wood fill to fill in those gaps. I love the color of our floors. They are so much more modern than the 80s orangish polyurethane that they replaced. But the quality of work done is substandard in my opinion. The job was done leading into the fourth of July weekend and my husband feels certain the crew was just in a hurry to get on with their holiday weekend. This is the most disappointing home improvement job I've ever hired someone to do in my home.

As one of the other reviewers said, these guys use subcontractors of varying quality. They had to…read morerefinish the floor 3 times because the owner insisted on sending the same crew back each time (which makes sense if using a fixed-price sub - keeps their profit intact). I communicated my concerns professionally (and almost apologetically) with the owner as we went, but I'm not sure that any of them were addressed directly with the crew - rather they were just given basic instructions at the start of each day to fix the problems from the last go 'round. I'll give them credit for trying to make it right, and the floor looks a lot better than it did when they started, but it still wasn't 100% at the end and they didn't want to listen to any more complaints. A list of items specific issues that as far as I can tell were never communicated back to the crew: - The first thing the crew leader did was take a dump in my bathroom, without asking, and made this a daily ritual. - They didn't bother to cover anything up before sanding - no sheathing between rooms, no covers over the vents - so dust was everywhere in the house. At least I had the good sense to turn off the HVAC, but still had to change the air filters several times before they finished the job. - They sanded/buffed the carpet, trashing it where the carpet meets the hardwood. - Stain was applied in some places across grain / boards rather than same direction leading to stripes (1st attempt), and inconsistently leading to dark splotches (2nd attempt). - They used my ladder (from the garage) without asking. - They left gobs of topcoat around trim and puddling elsewhere. - They did not take the time to use filler properly after the second attempt - there are dark spots around nails, knots, and where sanding was rough. - Hand sanding was quite rough in several areas leading to dark stain, especially around trim, cabinets, toilet, etc. And they didn't thoroughly clean or screen before coating in several places, leading to dirt and debris in the finish. - Stain spatter was left on the wall from brush work and flinging wet towels. The sinks were a left an absolute mess. - There was no real cleanup to speak of and patches of grass are dead in the front yard where they cleaned stain off their tools and equipment. - The "suicide cord" they were using to connect to 240V was a fire and safety hazard. After attempting to share my last round of concerns (not asking for them to redo it again but rather just trying to share some of the issues for future improvement), Anthony told me to stop looking so closely and asked, "You gonna blast us on the internet?" indicating his level of concern. For a website that touts their high level of professionalism and reputation, the crew did not reflect it. If I wasn't a professional contractor myself, then this might have been a traumatic experience. And if I knew the crew and could have hired them directly, then I would have undoubtedly paid half as much... but then they might not have redone it 3 times (especially because I would have kicked them out after the second attempt). I never asked for a discount, and one was certainly never offered. I'm leaving 2 stars because on Yelp that means it "could've been better" but for the price I paid to go with the "pros" I regret not giving one of the other bidders a chance.

Jonathan referred us to the flake makers so we could identify the right colors and combination that we wanted for our floors. My husband absolutely loved how it came out, and I love that they do all the right steps to protect your floor and offer a lifetime warranty (they use epoxy and polyaspartic). It was also very easy to schedule the work with their team, and they offer several payment options. The work will take 2 days FYI and is also weather dependent. It was pretty cold (but not snowing) when they did our garage. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants their garage floors treated!

They provided us with several gym flooring options and took the time to explain the differences between them. They were especially knowledgeable when it came to the challenges of leveling our basement floor and clearly explained the different options for preparing and leveling the floor before installing the gym flooring. Their expertise made the process and decision-making much easier. The finished gym floor looks great, and we're very happy with the results. The entire process was smooth, and the team did a great job. We would definitely recommend Simply Floors to anyone looking for quality flooring and a knowledgeable, professional team!

After connecting with Simply Floors early 2026 because of the shredding carpet and after a couple of inspections and coordination with the manufacturer of the carpet, I now have the replacement installed (June 1, 2026). The installation was a good process this time and the carpet will most likely hold up very well. Good installation, done within a reasonable time frame and confirmation of details beforehand was achieved. Would have given 5 stars if this was how it went in the beginning. Although I wouldn't recommend one company over another, I would recommend solid communication with all involved, especially with the install crew and company together so everyone is on the same page from the beginning and not just futile lip service. Follow-up inquiries are also important. Would I work with this company again---probably, since they came through with corrections.
