No high pressure upselling or scare tactics. They are knowledgeable and if they can save you some money, they often do! But the work is still top notch in my experience. Best shop in town! I love my car and sometimes ask them to replace stuff that might go soon. They always say "we'll take a look!" and most of the time they come back and tell me "we can do it if you want, but the part looks in great shape, it's simply not needed". They also give you a detailed report sent to you from your visit with pictures and recommendations. They are not going to push you into anything or try to upsell anything to you. They have a convenient shuttle system so they will drop you off and pick you up if you leave your car with them for the day. I called a couple of days ago asking about tire prices and the employee gave me a very thorough explanation of options. Given that my tire size is somewhat rare, he said he would give me a call the next day to see if he could come up with any additional tire options for me. He followed up the next day, with lots of information, great detailed explanations and his honest recommendations (based on my budget). Tip: call and book your appointment at least two weeks in advance as they fill up quickly!

As Zach, the front desk guy, told me if your car uses 0W-30 synthetic oil, they will charge less than 5W-30. Has anyone in Rochester got this? Ironically, I called ahead and provided my car's year, model with the type of oil that I have been used for years which is full synthetic, on the phone they told me the amoun lesser than they charged without asking for VIN number as Zach said to know which weight of the oil. Bottom line is be careful to bring your car for service at this auto shop in Rochester, MN because they will find a way to charge you more with their "complex but not straight upfront" as simple as engine oil service. Surely they won't see me again. BTW, Zach gave me a long list of courtesy diagnosis recommended fixes in which I'm not sure I trust it due to what happened to oil change service I got.

That was brutal, but we made it! Just to ensure we knew Rochester was as far as she wanted to go, she started growling and screaming as soon as we got here. I knew what I had to do. I looked up all the auto mechanics in town to find an old soul who'd owned, driven and worked on full-size Broncos back in the day. Yes, I found Joe, and he, unlike all the others I asked in California and across the country, found the leaks, hidden away, and welded them shut blind. He gave me a good deal for the time it took, and it's not given me trouble since then. I recommend Joe for vehicles requiring an old pro, someone who takes their time to do the job right, and someone who cares about giving you a great result that will last. I can't say more because I don't want you to expect his above and beyond, but he was fantastic!

During that time, they've done the work needed on my two vehicles. More importantly, they've NOT done the work that wasn't needed. Several times, I've had oil changes done elsewhere (Black's doesn't do cheap oil changes), and have been told that something needed attention (transmission flush, brake fluid exchange, new belts, etc. You get the picture, I'm sure.) Upon taking it to Black's, they've looked at the alleged problem and told me what really needed to be done, and mostly that was nothing that was needed. So, if I add up all the money they saved me, I expect it would add up to a nice dollar amount over those 10 years. In more than 10 years, I haven't had a gripe about the quality of the work these folks do.

Tip Top managed to piece it back together, and were even honest about "this might not be right - we weren't expecting it to be that bad. Come back if it doesn't work" (I didn't have my starter on me at the time). It's also worth a mention that the gentleman there was the only person working, said he had just bought the shop from his cousin right before the COVID-19 crisis and yet managed to have a sterling attitude and the utmost professionalism.
