Unprofessional, condescending, and first nurse incompetent-anything but compassionate. The one bright star was Mom's second nurse, Connor, who was knowledgeable, caring, and very willing to answer questions. He deserves 10 stars! The rest of the company -two stars may be too much. My mother-in-law was seen at the hospital and was diagnosed with gall stones. At 97, she choose not to have surgery., which is understandable. By the end of the day, the doctor had placed her on hospice and set up care with Compassus. We were not told why Mom was placed on hospice or given any opportunity to investigate options. From the first meeting, Compassus was clear that they would only provide services and supplies that Medicare paid for. My questions about Mom's secondary insurance or private pay programs were ignored. What Medicare paid for was a visit from a nurse two to three times a week and a CNA once a week. All of the rest of Mom's care was left to the family with no training and no support from Compassus. They treated us like we worked for them and answering questions was inconvenient. Mom wanted to "die in her own bed" and we honored that-which meant 24/7 intensive medical care with zero medical training. (In her final weeks she had a urinary catheter with a bag that had to be emptied multiple times a day, she had to be turned every 2 hours, have pain medication every four hours, spoon fed....) When I asked about support options, we were given the name of two local nursing homes-no options for other support, even though we did have some money that we were prepared to devote to Mom's care and comfort. Through a friend, who is a volunteer for another hospice, I learned that there are temp nursing agencies, nursing student programs and even volunteer community support resources that could have been helpful. Compassus informed me that they didn't work with outside organizations or programs. Mom's first nurse not only placed her urinary catheter incorrectly, but chewed out my husband and his brother for not changing Mom's wet diapers fast enough. If she has a urinary catheter, she should not have a wet diaper! After I filed a formal complaint, this nurse was removed and Connor brought in. He was incredible! When I was staying with Mom and caring for her one weekend, the CNA informed me that I was "Just the in-law" and she couldn't tell me if Mom had a bowel movement that morning. An irate call from my husband had me added to the list of people authorized for medical information, but should not have been necessary for a simple question that I was able to answer myself by looking through the trashcan. Apparently the reason that I was not listed was that no-one ever asked Mom or Glenn (my husband/her son0 who they wanted listed. They just copied the name of the person with power of attorney off of her medical record. The final insult came when Mom passed away last week. Compassus' grief counselor sent a sympathy card addressed only to my husband (it should have been addressed to the family) and couldn't bother to spell his first name correctly! Mom's final weeks were far less comfortable and her children/inlaw's lives were made far more difficult than they needed to be because Compassus' only focus was how much money they could get from Medicare. read more

Despite the play on the word "compassion" there is everything but compassion with this agency. 1. they made it sound like they were the only choice (they're not) 2. things were not explained clearly and not communicated well with medical staff. a mistake was made by medical staff because of it. 3. we were told a social worker would reach out to us afterward to coordinate after care for the grieving family. they did not- we had to ask. 4. even with this info, the social worker NEVER answered my mother's calls- and she really needed that support. 5. the "condolences" card had names spelled wrong and it was highly impersonal. I get it- you do a lot of work, but don't make promises that "we're here for you through all of it" and then not be. Absolutely the WORST agency we worked with during our loved one's death. If it weren't for the director of the funeral home we chose being an amazing person willing to answer all of our questions we would have gotten nowhere. Lesson learned and message to all: YOU DO HAVE CHOICES WHEN IT COMES TO HOSPICE CARE. Do your research, know your boundaries, don't let these agencies prey on your grief. read more

My father passed in the Summer of 2021 and the hospital recommended us to Compassus Hospice, had I known the horrors I would go through with this company I would have never chosen this hospice. Under no circumstance should anyone use Compassus Hospice, EVER. Yelp requires a One Star in order to leave a review however this is far more than this company deserves and I wish I could give a negative star review. Unfortunately for most everyone who does wind up in the situation of needing a hospice provider they will never be able to turn to a review to check on the company they are giving their loved one to. The people of Compassus were fine, good perhaps. However the infrastructure of this company is severely lacking and simple things caused massive issues for me and my family. Examples: During our initial meeting in the hospital to discuss needing hospice the company had the incorrect address, I told the agent the correct address.. The address was never updated.. This means that my father was actually delivered (or nearly) to the incorrect house. So was his bed and equipment for which he needed, which arrived only minutes before him when we had discussed that it would be hours before.. Also, so was his medication, which we didn't get until many hours after he had been brought home. Nurses went to the incorrect house, if we even saw them. We were promised a nurse visits and they never came. There is so much more and I can never forgive this company for the pain they helped increase. Cindy McCormick in the last week Our hospice team was beyond exceptional. From Dr. Howe, our attending physician, to Deb Mason my husband's Hospice Nurse and also the other nurses that were on call on weekends, the spiritual support staff Pastor Dale and Pastor Jim, Stephanie in social services, the entire team worked relentlessly with my husband and I during a very long and trying illness. They were there for us when we needed them the most. They were always our advocates in the nursing home and they came to bat for us when no one else would. Even to the moment of end-of-life with my husband they were there for us. I cannot say enough about their comprehensive help, tenderness, and knowledge. I think of them like family. I will always be grateful to them for every single act of kindness in our behalf. read more

Apparently Optum Hospice is now renamed Compassus: I would NOT NOT NOT recommend this hospice to anyone. Not even my worst enemy deserves to be FORGOTTEN the way Optum Hospice did to my Mom. Optum Hospice started off badly when they did not get my Mom's hospital bed delivered to my parents' house in time, resulting in Mom staying at the Nursing Center an extra night, at a cost of $359 out of my dad's pocket. Optum Hospice then sent a Hospice Nurse who told Dainna she was "going on vacation" and that she was "unsure who would be taking over my Mom's care." Well, that answer was "No One." They literally sent a backup nurse, but only when my Dad called. No one ever stopped by to do respite care to help my dad on ANY level. Four days in with NO sleep, my Dad was literally on the verge of suicide from taking care of Mom nonstop. That was when I finally flew back to Denver, despite my Dad thinking I couldn't help. Mom fell out of her bed my first night home. I don't know what time, but thankfully my folks have heated floors in the family room. I found her at 6am and called paramedics to get her back in bed and checked out. Two hours later, the backup nurse, Heidi, from Optum arrived and said Mom was "Okay," then left. Don't get me wrong, Heidi was very good at her job, but even she admitted that Optum Hospice fucked us over badly and said my Dad shouldn't pay them. In the four days I was there, I met Heidi TWICE. She was the ONLY person I ever saw from Optum Hospice. The night my Mom died, my Dad called Optum Hospice and was told it would take several HOURS for a representative to come help with the paperwork. In her earlier frustration, Heidi had given my Dad her personal cell number, so we called her direct and she came to our house right away. In all of her years as a relief hospice nurse, Heidi said she had NEVER been the one to administer the Death Certificate. Generally a physician fills it out and signs it, but Optum Hospice refused to even do that much for my family. My Dad and I cleaned my Mom, fed her, and even administered the final Morphine, despite the box being clearly marked, "Nurse ONLY must administer." Heidi told my Dad over the phone at the time: "I know you can do this. You are capable," because there was no one else coming to help. Period. Then, Optum Hospice took their sweet time picking up Mom's hospital bed. They NEVER picked up the box of unnecessary meds they sent on the first day (by law they are supposed to pickup all unused meds. We still have unused morphine in the fridge two years later...) We were told that IF we sued Optum Hospice, we would be written off for being "just another grieving family." So we waited. By now, my Dad just wants to push on and get past that time. I do too, but when a friend asked me today about Optum Hospice, I told her exactly what happened--and what didn't happen. I will NEVER forget the hell that Optum Hospice put my family through in our darkest hours. I hope they go bankrupt and their offices burn to the ground. I have literally NOTHING good to say about them. read more

I found Sol Amor in home hospice to be professional, sincere, communicative and there whenever they were needed, which was A LOT. They followed up with me at every turn and had volunteers spend time with him when he was in that agitated transition state. When I called they were there at my Dad's assisted living minutes. I am sorry for Patricia's experience and hope the people she dealt with were fired but my experience was completely opposite. As a matter of fact, with Denver Hospice for my Mom, I found, everyone was great once they got to my Mom but it took them hours to get to her. Unfortunately as a Provider and referral source, I am very disappointed in this Hospice company from the time the referral was entered to post-mortem notification. They were more interested in signing the contract than explaining their services to the family. They rarely updated me on the the patient condition. I had to call and ask for updates. More importantly when there was a decline and the patient seemed to be close to dying, they did not inform me. And the very worse was I had to hear from the family that the patient had died. Compassus only notified me 4 days later via a fax report. I then called the Office Manger to ask why the Referring Provider was not notified personally and their only answer was that it was holiday weekend. I prefer to be supportive to the family after their loss and they should not have to be the one's to call me. Their communication was below standard with me and the family. They called the family and said they were coming to make a visit and then at the last minute they cancelled the appointment or allowed the family to wait and then cancel the appointment. There was little compassion shown from the very start and throughout the process. I have never written a review but this company sorely has missed the mark on many fronts! read more

Everyone who had any interactions with us were not only helpful and efficient, but provided humanity and support that made this terrible ordeal a little easier. I hope that anyone who reads this takes this seriously. I hope that you will look at this review and understand that I'm writing this because I would hate for ANYONE to ever have to go through what I went through with SolAmor. If I could, I would give them negative stars. My dad was in assisted living and also on hospice due to COPD. He had been sick for a while, but was maintaining and doing ok. When he went into assisted living, we had to change hospice companies. I chose SolAmor and should have done more research on them, but I didn't and we paid an unbearable price because of it. I knew my dad's medication, medical history, and everything going on with his medical issues inside and out so I knew when he was having an ok day, a really bad day, or a great day. SolAmor did not. They met with me once, met with my dad once and assumed they knew his life history. They assumed they knew if he was "actively" dying based on one meeting. My dad had so many roller coasters, where he was really sick one day and back to normal the next. The first weekend that he moved into assisted living, he wasn't doing great. I called hospice to come see him to see if there was anything they could do to make him more comfortable. It was a weekend that had snowed, but the roads weren't terrible. I made it to the assisted living facility in my rear-wheel drive sports car just fine. The nurse REFUSED to come. He stated that I should give it some more time and see if his breathing gets any better. He told me to give him more morphine and basically drug him till he fell asleep. This is no way for a hospice to respond to a family in need. Hospice's purpose is to be there when you need them, day or not, rain or shine. Needless to day, he didn't improve and his breathing was so labored, it sounded like he was suffocating. I called once again and literally begged the nurse to come. I didn't know what to do, I am not a licensed nurse and we had done everything we could to help him. The nurse told me that my dad was actively dying and that I needed to accept that. So, he refused to come once again. I refused to let my dad suffer, so I called 9-1-1. The one thing you typically don't do when you're utilizing hospice. They are supposed to be your 9-1-1. We went to Denver Health (who was FANTASTIC by the way) and they managed to get his breathing under control within seconds. But his heart rate had been so elevated for so long and he was so worn down that there wasn't a whole lot they could do. But at the very least he was comfortable. The nurse found out we called 9-1-1 and were at the hospital and I assume because he was afraid he was going to lose his job, he showed up. Fortunately, the hospital refused to let him see me or my dad (fortunate for him...because it wouldn't have gone well for him if I was able to get my hands on him). The next morning he called me to see why we went to the hospital. I was so shocked that he would called me and even ask that question. I told him I had nothing to say to him and that my dad's health was no longer his concern. He told me I was a horrible person and he was glad he didn't have to deal with a (expletive) like me again. Wow. What a way to treat a family who is in dire need of your services during their absolute lowest point. My dad passed away two weeks later in Denver Hospice. I would highly recommend them, they were fantastic. I would highly recommend NOT using SolAmor. Their utter disrespect for their family's and client is absolutely disgraceful. They should be ashamed to even call themselves a hospice. I have written complaints to both the health department and DORA regarding the nurse's behavior. My best piece of advice is to do your research. Best of luck. read more

My husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in Sep. of last year. After enduring a lengthy surgery, several invasive medical procedures and 15 rounds of chemo, his cancer had spread. It broke my heart, but he chose hospice care instead of more chemo. We chose Compassus because we thought it was Hospice Advantage like his father had. Compassus is not Hospice Advantage, in fact Compassus is not even a hospice in my mind. The nurses showed up whenever they felt like it,never called to check on him.They never even knew what he was dying from, insisted on giving him strong narcotics, The longest they spent with him was 15 minutes! I had to call them constantly asking for help. When he was actively dying, I called for help 3 times, but the nurse still never showed up for over an hour.When she did arrive, she looked at him and asked me what time did he pass? I tell you was not looking at the clock when he passed, I was holding him & our daughter. When the nurse left, after about 10 min (she did call the funeral home, but left soon after) she took all of his highly regulated drugs with her, took them in bags & boxes right out my door and drove away! I later found out that was her last day on the job. When I tried to file a complaint I was treated so rudely, I am still in shock over it. Compassus is a horrible, horrible hospice. Do not use this hospice, unless you really do not care how the patient is treated, they are uncaring, unsympathic, ignorant bunch. I was private pay, by the way. read more
