While driving to NYC on the thruway, my Coolant Low alarm appeared on the dash of my '23 Arteon. I found the nearest dealer was Middletown VW. I explained the issue to the service rep (Colin) and he immediately looked for an issue. After letting the car cool for a few minutes, he topped off the coolant tank and told me the issue was resolved, but I should notify my dealer on my next visit. 1) Vehicle was being repaired for 5 weeks... It was clear our vehicle was not a priority to expedite the process. 2) For the majority of the five weeks if I got an update, I had to show up in person because my phone calls were not returned most of the time. 3) I asked for a full assessment prior to fixing because I didn't want to spend too much money. They finally fixed the original problem but then afterwards they identified another problem that would not pass inspection. So now if I wanted it to pass inspection, I have to pay more than twice what I originally agreed. I told service rep if I knew this ahead of time I wouldn't have done the original repairs. I would have not fixed it at all and traded it in. It is clear that they are understaffed and over worked. I'm sure they are nice people but my experience was not good at all. I would not buy a car there or get any additional service. read more

I originally went to Acura for a Acura but they pissed me off so I went to voltswagon as soon as I parked jhon asked me if I needed help. I told him what I needed my price that I could afford a month and he definitely delivered he got me a wayyyyy better deal then Acura on a Tiguan I didn't have to do anything he called me with a final offer added the insurance and had the car waiting for me when I got there clean and ready to go I was there less than 30 min. What a disappointment! When I brought my Tiguan in for its first service, I found that the mechanic rotated my directional tires and then left two of them so they were backwards!! Duh, and they say they sell tires there?? Unfortunately, I did not check in my trunk to see that the same mechanic took out my wheel lock key and never returned it. Then when I called three times to get it returned, "Jeff" told us that we did not need it and never offered to pay me for a new set since, he had no idea where the mechanic put it. In addition, the mechanic left off the cover when he checked the fluid for my a/c. Now, I also have to spend $20 for a new cover. Careless service. read more

I went to the dealership in January 2023 looking for a used car, but ended up interested in a new 2023 SEL R LINE ATLAS. My husband and I recently received the exciting news we are expecting our first child and decided we needed a bigger and safer car. The exact one I wanted was not in stock yet. I was told the car would be in between Feb 14 - Feb 18. I agreed to wait the month because I was very interested in this specific car as it was perfect for our expanding family. We asked that day if we needed a deposit and were told no. The car came in a few days early and the salesman sent some photos, we set the date for Tuesday February 14 to come at 5p to do one final test drive and talk to the finance department. Unfortunately we had to change the date to February 16 at 5p. I then inquired AGAIN if we would need a deposit and the question was not really answered. Fast forward to the day of February 16... I received a text message from the salesman at 12:30p that they sold the car that morning. I was very upset. I called the dealership to speak with anyone to confirm it was sold and we had the correct information. The car was in fact sold. I did ask to speak with someone so this does not happen to anyone else and see what else was coming into their dealership. The manager was condescending and honestly did not seem to care, it was a "too bad so sad" kind of conversation. I asked him if he had another one coming in and he stated they did not, they were hard for any dealership to get in and basically good luck to me and we hung up. I then contact two other local dealerships (Kingston, NY and Wappingers Falls, NY) who had exactly what I wanted in several different colors. I would NEVER use this dealership or refer them to anyone else! It seems they're too small to interact and get cars in from other dealerships as well as have common curtesy and respect for people, I do not feel they took me seriously. Little did they know that I chalked the tires before I arrived and I was able to prove to them that they did not rotate my tires and they were just ripping me off. Never going back. Purchased a VW diesel Jetta 3 years ago from this dealership and had a pretty crappy experience. I'm writing this email now because they have been pestering me all week with 3 emails and 2 phone calls about trading in my Jetta (that I don't even have anymore because there was a buyback on all of them due to illegal emissions - but I guess the VW people were not in the loop of that national disaster. ) also I unsubscribed from their emails like 10 times over the past years and sent them 2 emails back telling them I don't have the car and to take me off their list. When I purchased the car they told me they had a special on a Jetta- the sticker was 29, they gave me a "special" for 27. After signing the papers I went home and saw my Jetta (with its VIN number to match it) on their website for 25. I went to pick up the car the next day and brought up that deal. They told me it was too late, the papers were signed and it was my fault I didn't bring it up the day before. The finance guy also inferred I was stupid for not purchasing their extended warranty - glad I didn't. The whole experience just sucked. Also had a friend buy a Jetta from them which they pressured her to put a $500 down payment on so they would hold the car for a day for her - I believe she did cash. When she went to buy the car they claimed she never put any money down. After she said she was going to talk to her lawyer then the money showed up on one of their desks. So if you like crappy service with lots of scams, then this is the place for you! read more

They are the best or the best!!! I am from texas and moved to new york, and started having trouble with my jetta. I pulled in and without missing a beat i was helped. I told them about my situation, rough move, living out of my car because of how high everything is and didnt have a lot of money. I then explained to them that i had the parts and the problem was just openeing a cap which didn't open. They saw me needing help, and with no charge going full head asteam, they helped me. They worked on my car for about 30 minutes while assuring me they would take care of me. They had several different guys come out to get this cap off, and when they did, they didnt stop there. They checked everything front to back to make sure i was good. They made a few ajustments to make my visibility better, and they made sure I was taken care of. They gave me they're cards and said that if I needed anything else, to come back and i would be helped. I felt safe, respected, and like family there. From the service writers to the mechanics that sevised and helped me, they are nothing short of the best. I recommend that you bring your vehicle here, even if you dont have a Volkswagen, to have them look at it. They are the best of the best and will give you a perfect end result and product, all while being fair and helpful. Will only go to them and only them from now on. Purchased a VW R32 for a friend a few years ago with no issues since. Think it was with a different ownership. Wife purchased a 2014 Taureg. Had some rattles. Took it back twice and the rattles were fixed free of charge. Purchased a 2017 Golf R in Feb 2017. Center console storage does not open in this model for some bizarre VW reason with wasted space. Went on internet to find the modification - took it to the dealer, showed them the video and they fixed it free of charge, washed the car and the service person was very courteous and helpful. I have been going to a reputable mechanic and he recently found a hose that Compass Motors damaged when they replaced my valve cover and cam tension gaskets. My mechanic simply asked me to step back into the work area and pointed out the hose which had been glued back together which had the same type of glue they had used around the gasket Compass had replaced. (which he mentioned they shouldn't have had to do if the NEW gasket had been seated and installed properly) I'm not mechanically advanced but do know a few basics. But simply looking at the hose it looked like a spit and tape job you do to get you to the nearest mechanic. This is why mechanics get a bad rap, I placed my absolute trust in this dealership and feel it is horrific they are able to get away with what they do. read more

Purchased my VW Passat back in 2014. Been coming to Compass VW of Middletown NY for service since. Each visit was a great experience, literally...each visit. Figured not too many people take the time to add positive reviews these days, just negative feedback and hence, this review. I visited compass VW on 8/6/2016 because a previous visit to a local shop (will remain nameless) failed me for inspection. The Nameless Shop advising me I would need a new rear break caliper, two rear rotors, brakes and tires. Called Compass VW, explained my situation and was advised to visit them. I was greeted by advisor N. Miranda who explained that he will have one of his many top technicians' on this to address my concerns. Here's where the review gets my happy end user experience. K. Rosa (Technician) wanted to speak with me on my situation. Instead of taking advantage of me (because they knew my failed inspection story), I was told that there was nothing wrong with my caliper, rotors had normal wear and tires meet the inspection requirements. K. Rosa explained how the entire break system worked and showed me there was nothing wrong with my car and could bring the car down from the lift passing my inspection. How awesome, right? They clearly knew my situation and could've totally taken advantage but didn't!!! It's hard to trust establishments these days but if you find the right connection of people, THEY make all the difference in the world. I Purchased my car here a little over a year ago. From the moment I walked in I felt relieved which might sound ridiculous, However after being to almost every other dealership in in the area and being pushed to buy cars I simply didn't want I was at my wits end *Cough Prestige Cough* I came into compass and was greeted by a salesman named Joe who simply asked me what i was looking for. I told him I wanted a black hatch back automatic with a sunroof... Which when I said this at mini I actually had a somewhat confrontation response from the salesman who told me "well we don't have that on the lot and you are going to have to chose from what we have on the lot..." which to me is insane if I'm buying a new car why should someone else tell me WHAT I have to buy. When I told Joe what I wanted he grabbed a set of keys and let me test drive a black golf with a sunroof, heated seats, automatic, everything I wanted. Every person I encountered in the buying process here was beyond kind and friendly. Every time I bring my car in not only are the service people friendly and helpful and do an amazing job the salesmen say hello and sit and chat. I drive thousands of miles a month for work and I have never had any problems I even purchased their extended warrantee. I will never buy a car anywhere else, My mother is even looking at the new model jettas. Great place great service. LOVE IT read more

Horrible mechanics. I got my motor, transmission AND catalytic converter (which we had to bring it back for because they didn't fix it the first time, which lead to MORE issues with the SECOND motor) replaced with compass, and not even an HOUR after I picked it up, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON. I had to move that week to a different state, and the engine light NEVER WENT OFF. Calling to get my warranty information was a nightmare. I wouldn't bring my vehicle back there to be worked on if it was the only shop within 100 miles. The only reason they get two stars is because they're not TOO rude when I call, even though there are one or two people that I've spoken to that need a slight attitude adjustment. IM the customer, and no matter how many times I call about an issue you should be quick, timely, and courteous on they're responses. read more

Initially satisfied until it became obvious that I shouldn't buy a service contract for a car (Mini Cooper) that is not specific to the dealership (VW); even although the car was purchased from the lot of said dealer. Icons couldn't be cleared, anything other than simple service couldn't be done. Had to take car to Prestige Mini in Ramsey and more recently in Wappingers Falls at additional cost. Currently Service icon is being displayed. I was told there was no one in Maintenance who could clear it and their records indicate I should wait another couple of thousand miles. Reason for two stars is that original Maintenance staff always tried to help. There have been changes in staffing. Not the same. I learned a hard lesson; don't buy a car and service contract from a dealer who can't service that car. read more

When I purchased the extended carefree service the guy told me I would drop off my care get a loaner and pick it up the next day . Total b s first time I brought it in the people looked at me like I had 3 heads . I made them get me a rental car since then I have had them shuttle me home because they made the whole rental take about 2 hours . Terrible experience , never again I took my care in for service yesterday ( oil change and rotate the tires . Simple right ! When I came in for my first oil change I was told they don't do that . I demanded a loaner so they rented me a car which took about 2 hours to get ,how inconvenient . I brought my car to Compass Volkswagen to have a simple recall done. I will never return. When I was called to pick up the car, I was told that the hood release had been previously broken and, did i want to purchase the part for $30+service done. The hood release was not broken previously. The last person to touch under the hood was my local mechanic and he opened and showed me the car after the last time serviced. I called the dealership and spoke with the service manager telling him my concerns. He claimed that he was there when the hood release lever just "flew out". Yeah.... riiight. I have since brought the car back to my local mechanic and he ordered the broken part, the price $10!!! My mechanic even stated how it probably happen. When the hood is opened the lever is sticking out, clothing can easily snag and if pulled one way or another with enough force, the plastic will snap. I am outraged! read more

This dealership SUCKS!!! They made a warranty repair to my AC and my car was in their shop for over a month with a motor problem that never existed prior to entering this dealers shop. My car went in on 7/25/2012 and is still not repaired. They even wanted to charge me for attempts they made at repairing my car,which I might add did not have a problem until they fixed my AC issue. They milked my extended warranty company($3000+ which they refused to pay since car was not repaired) to the point that they refused to approve any more guesses by compass as to what may be wrong with my car. I would like to emphasize GUESSES. Finally on 8/24/2012, I had to have my car towed from this dealer to another repair shop with my motor torn in half. They had two boxes of parts stuffed in my trunk. This all started from a simply AC repair. I will be perusing this with my lawyer to the fullest extent of the law in an attempt to make them accountable for their gross negligence(the opposite of diligence). Do not go there for service! I needed a headlight replaced and was initially quoted $35 when I dropped off the car. Later they called to say it might not be the bulb alone, it could also be this other part, so they recommended replacing both. They suggested I replace both without even checking to see if there was something wrong with the other part or if it was only the bulb that needed replacing. I was quoted $175 for the bulb alone so I declined the service. I had previously been quoted $90 for that bulb at another repair shop. (The only reason I asked VW to do it was because my car had to come in for a recall, so I figured I would just get it done at the same time.) When I picked up my car there was an estimate of $463 listed on the receipt to change the bulb, that is obscene!!! I bought a bulb for $100 and my father installed it in 5 minutes. They also tried to sell me a tire rotation, which I declined. The person I dealt with had a big friendly smile and the whole time he was trying to pick my pocket. It was a very sleezy experience. On another occasion, my father purchased 4 parts one day and returned 3 the next morning and he was charged a 20% restocking fee, which came to $60. They took the parts off the shelf, and then put them back on the shelf, and this service cost my father $60. Please do not go to Compass if you can avoid it, and if you cannot avoid it, do not let them charge you for services/parts that you DO NOT NEED. read more

So went to Mohegan Lake Motors and was treated as it I had purchased 10 cars. Polar opposite of this dump where GM said F off. They need to go across river and get some CS TRAINING. If that's too far for these clowns to drive it they don't want to pay toll,they could probably get some training at SUNSHINE FORD a GREAT where you can buy a vehicle from Randy. I am driving the CX-5 in various road conditions(highway,country road,stop & go) and I like the mpg indicator, very smooth ride, the head lights are amazing. The suspension is very stiff, but that is good for Orange Cty. roads, the audio system is great,the only down fall is that the stereo does not have a hard drive to remember all the cd's that I have to down load, but I could use the blue tooth method. Also there should be a control on the steering wheel for the radio to change the stations. For the Grand Touring model which I have the passenger side seat should be a power seat which it is not, but overall i can give it a 4 star rating. The dealer ship went out of their way to find the vehicle for us and that shows alot, Jeff was a great salesperson, and Rich did a great job of explaining all the payment options,thanks guys. At the end of July I bought a used 2012 Jetta from Compass Motors Volkswagen. As soon as I got home I realized that my horn didn't work. The next week my key got stuck in my ignition a few times when I tried to turn my car off. The last time it happened it was stuck for almost an hour. I noticed it was difficult to remove the day we test drove it but I thought it was just me. On top of that my car felt like it was vibrating when I went above 60 mph. My mother drove my car the week I got it and also noticed it was vibrating. So I took it back just 3 weeks after I purchased it to have these things fixed. My horn was replaced, the part was ordered for my ignition, and my wheels were rebalanced to fix the vibration. According to my invoice the car was now operating "as designed." When looking at my invoice I noticed that it said I had a bent wheel that contributed to the vibrating. I had no knowledge of this and when I called and spoke to Dan about it he essentially told me that I must have bent it by driving over bumps. However, the car had been vibrating since I bought it. I had the car for 3 weeks at this time, and I had only driven very short distances. I am also a very careful driver. I wasn't off roading, nor was I flying down pothole and bump filled roads. There was no way I bent the wheel. Dan who told me that a wheel could be bent by driving over a bump too fast, obviously telling me I did it and it was not sold to me like that. I told him why I was sure I did not bend the wheel. He told me I could call the sales department if I wanted to speak to someone about the problem. No one was available to speak with me so I was told to leave a message and someone would get back to me. No one ever did. My mother called the service department this time and was told that my father or boyfriend had called and said we didn't need a new wheel! That never happened. She spoke to the service manager Jeff and he told her the wheel would be replaced and he would call us back to make an appointment. AGAIN, no one called us back. I called the next week asking about it and spoke to Jeff and it was as if he did not remember the conversation he had with my mother. He seemed confused that she said she had spoke with him. He told me he would see if the people who work on the wheels there could do it on the weekend which I said was the best time for me. AGAIN, NO ONE CALLED ME BACK. My mother called back AGAIN and was told that the wheel wasn't going to be replaced but they would straighten it. So we went there today 11/11/2015. We were told it would be an hour and a half appointment. About 2 hours in Dan came out into the waiting room to tell me that my car was almost done but it was being aligned because it was very off. I figured that happened while they were working on it somehow because the car was driving straight for me and my mother who has also driven my car earlier this week. When it was done, Dan came out to give me my keys and then proceeded to tell me to be careful when going over bumps because that's what bends the wheel and that every time I go over a bump hard it throws the car out of alignment. There were other people in the waiting room with us, and he condescendingly scolded me in front of everyone. Again, he was blaming me for the issue that had been present since I bought the car. So how could I have bent the wheel before I drove it off the lot? I could not help but think that had I been a man he would not have spoken to me like I didn't know what I was talking about. Looking at other reviews I see that I'm not the only woman who has been treated this way and thought the same thing. I decided to buy my car there because my father had a great experience. Neither of us will go back to purchase another car nor will I recommend them to anyone. You can be sure that I am sharing this review everywhere. read more

I HAVE NEVER FELT MORE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF! Compass Motors sold me a used GLI for over 20K what they forgot to mention was that the car had been wrecked and the only factory paint remaining was on the driverside doors. The paint didnt match and was bubbling everywhere. They wouldnt take the car back the next morning and insisted on doing the body repairs which took longer than they had told me it would but assured me the car would look new. To my dismay the car came back worse with paint still unmatching now with overspray on trim and sunroof. Also tape lines and areas where they buffed the paint completly off. They said if i was still unsatisfied they would take it back at this time but that was a lie they refused. I WAS ROBBED. needless to say very unsatisfied read more
