The truck itself was clean and in good shape, not a junker like I've gotten at other places. The price was I guess "standard". but the reason I'm taking time and leaving a review at this place as opposed to anywhere else, is the PHENOMENAL service I received from Ms. Jennifer A. She was very helpful in explaining how to avoid fees, by extending our time (at no extra cost to me). Not only that, she was very sweet, kind and personable. We talked about our favorite 80's cartoons, and had all around enjoyable conversation. i rent at the howell location, this company is such bullshit that it makes a pile of bullshit look good. Predatory pricing, extreme price increases, extreme fees for missing a day. Be careful. I rented from this company in Novi for 3 years. The price increases were incessant and excessive. Make sure you are clear on pricing in the long term. I would have moved out much sooner, but was "stuck" there due to extenuating circumstances. In my opinion, this company takes advantage of long-term customers. read more

I have been renting a unit at Compass, Novi for the past 3 years now. The customer support is ZERO. Upon signing, i was assured that if i rent a unit for a year, then 1 month will be free, but the manager changed the policy after signing up that I have to pay whole amount upfront to avail that offer. They keep increasing the charges every quarter for some reason or the other and the annual contracts have no value. The only reason for having a unit here is that its less than a mile from my current residence. I am going to be here for just a few more months before moving out. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT. read more

I rented a uhaul truck from this location and I must say the customer service was HORRIBLE. I was offered options for insurance which I initially decided to accept one but then changed my mind (this took less than a minute) but was told that once you accept it cannot be removed. The contract had not been printed or signed at this point so I am not sure why he could not remove it. I could understand if I changed my mind after signing the contract that it may be difficult. I was told that you can add insurance up to 15 min after renting but cannot remove it... What a scam! Look for other locations if possible and avoid them if at all possible. I will definitely be looking for other options. read more

Be very careful when reserving a storage unit with Compass Self Storage, since the reservation is meaningless if another customer comes in wanting the unit you had put a deposit down on. I placed a deposit down on a unit and they rented it to another customer because they were able to charge them more. They were unable to offer a comparable unit in time for my move. I also agree that Mike is unfriendly, not helpful, and he also refused to give me a phone number for customer service. He also accused me of lying and changed his story numerous times on the phone. read more

I agree with another reviewer.....they raise their rates each month and have some flimsy excuse for doing it, ie., there is a government fee this month....didn't you receive a letter indicating such? Also the manager , Mike, is unfriendly, not helpful, and refused to give me a phone number for customer service when asked. I would absolutely try another storage facility. read more

Be very careful at this location. Clerk claimed I was short 1/8 a tank of gas when I had just put gas in tank. They overexagerrated amount of gas in tank to begin with and tried to use it to get an extra $40 surcharge. I went and put more gas in, which then clearly put me above what I received vehicle with, but of course they don't credit you back when you fill too much. Novi Location...The facilities are clean and well maintained however had an issue getting into my storage unit. My unit door was blocked from the inside and I could not get in. I spoke several times with a young lady who identified herself as the manager and she was not able to come up with a solution that worked (truly disappointing). I finally spoke with a young lady by the name of Jennifer and she was awesome. Not only did she call back the same day, she was able to get the job done in a timely manner. If I had spoken with her before, I am sure that I would have been able to give a 5 star review. Great job Jennifer! read more

I diligently shopped around eight other cities for the best storage option and stopped here. Compass Self Storage in Novi has the best competitive price in the area, period! When walking in the first day, I was able to view multiple storage units with Audrey until I selected mine. The staff is friendly, courteous and was very helpful while I was placing my belongings in the climate controlled unit I selected. The In-Town uHaul Van I was able to reserve the day I needed to move. The facility is well maintained, clean, efficient, with secure 24-hour access and entry building video surveillance. read more

I've been renting from them for about 2 weeks and so far, so good. The experience and ease of renting has been seamless and considering I just moved cross-country, this has been essential. Trying to find a storage facility that would allow me to rent/secure a unit WITHOUT being here in person and doing it online was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I live in the West Bloomfield/Farmington Hills area and couldn't find anything climate controlled where I could rent it remotely and get all the necessary documents/keys when I arrived in town. Compass representatives have been nothing short of pleasant and accommodating. I had to change the size of my unit once I got in town after discussing my contents with them and they recommended I up the size. Phew! I like that I can access this 24/7 and don't have to do it during their business hours. My movers were able to unload with ease and we loaded my storage unit without any issues. This is a very secure facility; access codes and cameras everywhere, so it's good to know someone's watching out for your stuff. Weigh your options. Sometimes it's worth paying more to get what you want and feel good about it. read more

Cassie was very helpful. Compass had the best rate for climate controlled units. Very quick to set up an account and start moving in.

The facilities are fine, but our experience was not great. We rented our unit over the phone and were given the code to open the gate so we could meet our moving van at 8 a.m. The code didn't work - someone had neglected to enter us in "the system." We had to wait an hour for someone to show up. Also, the lock for the gate for the van to enter was jammed, causing another delay. The manager compensated us for the trouble by giving us the locks for the unit, but he refused to honor the offer on the card on his desk offering the first month free on a new rental, citing "some restrictions apply." We were renting a total of 3 units, so he might have done better by us. But otherwise - the units are clean and secure, and our climate controlled building should protect our furniture. Carts and dollies were available and helpful. read more
