The nitro cold brew is very smooth and you can get a growler too. I also sampled the mint which was not my favorite. You can tell they use real mint but it wasn't my personal taste . The shop itself is great place if you need to get work done with plenty of tables and outlets. The music isn't too loud and the environment was just right . Great taste, very smooth and comes straight from DC, it's DC own Bluestone Lane or La Colombe and I can't wait for one to open in Montgomery County (hint hint), but in the mean time you can get it at Modern Market and Founding Farmers, probably other places too. But this is a great location, right across from the Capital One Arena on F Street, great service and lots of great options for drinks including the ever increasing popular Matcha lattes. Pretty expensive drinks like around $6+ and all for one size cost us the same amount of money for an Uber from the airport. Almond and oat milk are free though thankfully. We got the almond butter latte and the coco vanilla frappe. They don't taste that distinctive to any other coffee but sufficed. Cute decor some seating to do laptop work the staff was alright. Our cashier was nice but the barista must've been having a bad day. Someone took our drink and he didn't seem to want to make another. When I asked to make sure it was almond milk like I ordered he just kept telling me to refer to what was written which was ABL almond butter latte but that doesn't necessarily mean it was made with almond milk usually when it's a dairy alternative it's marked on the cup or else it'll just be dairy. The coffee shop was located next to the lobby of a building (not exactly sure whether it was a commercial building or something else). This store was just a couple of blocks away from the National Portrait Gallery & across from the arena. The store was clean and the employees friendly. Came here for a little tea and battery charging. I noticed delicious looking biscotti in the window and went for the impulse. I asked the guy which is more popular. He said the chocolate toffee, but I was eyeing the lemon poppyseed. I ordered one of each with a hot jasmine green tea to combat the a/c filled space. The seating areas were open and some more secluded. The biscotti, unfortunately, were salty! The chocolate one moreso than the other. :'(. The boy at the register failed to mention that the chocolate one had seasalt and the lemon poppyseed was slightly salty. So as I worked through my list of coffee places to visit, Compass was next on the list. Like other brands I have had their beans before, just not in one of their physical locations. I was excited for the opportunity of having the full experience. I don't know if it is building this particular location is inside or my high level of anticipation, but it felt like a DC coffee shop. The look, the atmosphere, the mixture of patrons from business person to student to older couple enjoying the morning together. It truly felt like a microcosm of DC. And as I sat at the end of the long bar to watch the caffeinated magic show begin, I felt as if I could sit there all day. The subtle confidence of the barista's as they pulled shots and brewed pour coffee, it was a sight to behold. Upon receiving my drink I held it near my lips, allowing the aroma to fill my nostrils and the steam to warm my face. And did the quality match the standard by which I have described everything thus far? If it hadn't, you wouldn't be reading this review. A beautiful cup of coffee is a work of art. A bean, grown properly and plucked from the branch at just the right time, washed in a way the flavor is best enhanced, roasted at the perfect temperature and duration, then brought to the brewing process in a timely manner, and handled with such care as if it were the Crown Jewels. We were looking for a nearby cafe, and the reviews of Compass Coffee convinced us to give them a try. When we arrived and saw that it was directly across from Capital One Arena, my expectations quickly diminished (I figured the good reviews were based on high turnaround volume from people going to games). Boy, was I wrong! This cafe is on point. I had a Turmeric Honey Latte, which was even better than expected. My wife and daughters shared a couple delicious Coconut Macaroons, which almost had "too much coconut" (if that is even possible). The staff knows their stuff and are extremely customer service oriented. The interior of the restaurant feels bright and open. Their selection of coffee gadgets (ChemEx, AeroPress, several French presses, etc) impressed a coffee nerd like me. To top all that off, that also offer a very nice military discount. The only thing I would like to see done differently is for their packaged coffee beans to have a "Roasted On" date, rather than a "Best Before" date. This is one of my local spots because it's close to the office so it makes for a nice walk around the block. I really don't have any complaints about the food or the service-- there are pastries and some various packaged snacks, plus your regular coffee drinks and a quite good drip coffee. They sell these great Lenka bars that have oats and peanut butter and I am kind of obsessed with them and I am not sure why. Spot is often bumpin' much of the morning. You can also sit out front on this lil bench thing and peoplewatch. I just take two stars off because of this peculiar phenomenon of shunning cash, which a lot of people have justified as a "public health measure" but it's really just about keeping out Those Kinds Of People. My friend introduced me and I love supporting local coffee. This location wasn't busy at all for a Saturday morning. The barista was great and let us sniff the beans before deciding what we wanted. We also got a mini session learning about where the beans cane from. Pretty cool place and a really nice change from the chain places. You're not going to find a ginormous venti anything. They have practical sizes. A Small is a small. A medium is more like what you would think of a small. And a large is probably like a medium in your mind. I'm really trying to figure out why I don't like Compass Coffee more. It's very bright, the coffee-making area is clean, there are good-looking pastries, and almost all of the coffee I've had, I've liked. But the lines are almost always crazy long, it's way too loud all the time, most of the seats are uncomfortable, I dislike the weighing and measuring, and the college kids behind the counters are kind of annoying (especially the happy ones). I'm used to creepy spaces with twisted souls making coffee that's black like their souls. Thinking about it, it's the lines. Long lines. Long, long lines. The vibe and set up is nice, even with tons of people sitting and standing around. It isn't somewhere I could sit and relax and enjoy my coffee, but maybe that's your thing. Veteran owned and the baristas are so friendly! I am trying to cut down on my coffee intake and I am so happy that Compass Coffee has so many alternative options to caffeinated drinks. Their matcha lattes are solid and they have an oh so chic, anti-inflammatory golden milk drink on the menu as well. Their tea options are vast as well. I needed a change of scenery, so I came down to this Compass Coffee location for a bit of studying on a Sunday morning. I had heard about the lavender latte and decided to try it. While others may enjoy the lavender latte, I really did not like the taste. I love the smell of lavender, but my palate just couldn't handle the very potent lavender flavor and overwhelming aftertaste. Even though it wasn't the drink for me, I still enjoy Compass Coffee in general. I usually like their Cardinal (medium) coffee with a splash of almond or soy milk. I'll just stick to my usual next time! This location is spacious with lots of seating for working/studying or just hanging out. There are Wi-Fi and outlets available for customers.
