Over priced coffee snobs serving average coffee at best. If you are looking for a place in downtown Vancouver to get a coffee don't go to compass. They only want to serve coffee the way they want you to drink it. Last time I checked when a customer is paying for a product they should get what they ask for with no if, ands or buts. Apparently compass feels different. They up charge you on everything and the pricing is never consistent. I payed $5.25 for a triple shot, almond milk latte which is already on the high side. Then I went in again and the same person who charged me $5.25 for every coffee I ever had there decided on that day it'd be $6.50. $6.50 is just to much for a latte. When I said it's always been $5.25 I was told that I had been under charged and that $6.50 was the appropriate amount. I was a regular visitor at compass before they moved and so I was over the moon when they found that new spot a block from my condo. I've been there numerous times since they opened and love the coffee, the friendly service and the décor. So why not 5 stars? The music is just SO loud. Whenever I try to work there or have a conversation there, it's just not doable. I've asked them to turn it down a couple times but it's an ongoing issue. Friendly and knowledgeable coffee shop with a wide array of beans and different roasts. I like dark coffee with a lot of flavor. Most coffee shops coffee tastes watery to me, but they made a great dark roast cup for me. I think it is the best coffee in downtown Vancouver. read more

Went for the first time today and got a scone for $4. After buying it I realized the barista had said it had vegan sausage. I'm very allergic to hemp, which is a common ingredient in vegan sausage so I went back and asked him if there was hemp in the scone. I told him I was allergic. He allegedly checked and told me it was safe to eat. It definitely did have hemp. After eating half of it I had to leave to go get allergy meds because my mouth and throat were swelling up. Absolutely irresponsible! I had a client meeting and actually had to change the location because I will not be returning. read more

My friend and I were simply trying to buy some beans and figure out a god chai latte to order. One of the managers, Lakaila (not sure of the correct spelling) was extremely rude. She was not helpful in helping us trying to order the same chai from the day before - in fact she was so rude, I will not be visiting this cafe again. Compass Coffee is so good! As a former barista, I appreciate both their espresso craft and the open, clean design of their space. Your latte art does not come with a snide barista personality though! Checked out this coffee shop on a whim and had a great time. Great clean vibe, awesome vegan and GF bakery offerings, awesome coffee, super friendly staff that catered to our three little ones (who were along for date night) and fun decor that made this decor/shutterbug nut slightly giddy. After surfing around daily to different local and chain coffee shops, Compass opened their new location with a bang. I buy way too much coffee here, because it is so good. Some other local coffee brewers produce unique tasting coffee, but after my wide experience, I can say that Compass is by far the most smooth and flavorful. Similar to Stumptown, but I would bid to say that Compass is better! The environment is just as great as their coffee. The staff is super friendly and diverse (far from the classic barista snobs). Some mornings are fairly busy and loud, so I wouldn't schedule an important meeting during peak hours, but it is definitely a fun place to see lots of smiles and get amazing coffee. read more

Probably the best selection of really good fair trade gourmet coffee you will find anywhere. Interesting views to the west: Esther Short and so on. Traffic. Cool in the sun. When I meet my son down here occasionally I usually get a Latte. It's generally lukewarm and always cold when I finish it. I've never had an independent coffee shop always have lukewarm coffee. I guess I should ask for extra hot every time. I have visited here, probably 20 plus times I get the same product. I would not consider myself a connoisseur of coffee, but I think I have a semi educated palette. It has a sweet burnt taste to it and really does not appeal to me. My son does not like corporate coffee so I guess that is why we meet here, but give me a cheap Starbucks Latte any day. Maybe I am being naive but its cheaper, hot and actually tastes like better coffee. The staff here also has that I'm very cool and can't wait to get off work attitude. Very poor service very very bad coffee. The ambience is nice, but the cashier was extremely rude, and only treated regulars like they were actual people. Compass Coffee is one of my favorite coffee shop in downtown Vancouver. I preferred it back at the old location because it was less busy and more relaxed, but the new space is absolutely gorgeous. It's very bright and modern. People say the coffee is expensive there but I just order drip coffee so I haven't really noticed.
