My Lenovo laptop needed a screen replacement, and I searched for computer repair in my area. I read some reviews on Yelp and I decided to take my laptop to a repair shop called 365 located in Hawthorne. Bad experience. First they said they had the screen model for my laptop and when I got there, they didn't have it. They placed an order for my screen and two weeks later, I called them but they never answered the phone or called me back. I searched for other computer repair and I decided to take my laptop to Comp-Pros. They did an amazing work on my laptop. They are punctual and reliable. Then I ran into a buzzsaw this week when the hard drive on my main computer started to fail. Personal and work are all on that computer. I had two Mac book pros fixed here. 1: broken battery - took 6 business days to replace 2: broken logic board (spilled coffee on keyboard) - going on 6 business days to fix and still waiting for parts apparently. Through no fault of my own, an arrogant and thoughtless relative (by marriage, not blood, thankfully) broke my laptop by throwing the bag containing it across the room. Luckily, I have the emotional intelligence to be able to choose my family, beyond blood and legal relation. Similarly, I feel like I had many options when the time came to repair the laptop. I'm glad I chose Comp-Pros. I'll be honest. I waited several months to have it fixed. At first, the damage was superficial. Part of the frame split from the rest of the laptop. Over time, though, that meant that dust and other junk was able to seep into my fan. Lo and behold, one day, the fan stopped turning and beating it just didn't get it going again like it used to. I guess it wasn't into that sort of thing anymore. Additionally, because it's an HP, it was just flat out doing some weird, stupid shit, period. Mainly, at some point the software would stop recording anything new to the hard disk, though there was plenty of space. Restarting the computer and commanding it to scan and repair the entire disk woukd fix it, but that would take hours EVERY restart. It was driving me nuts. So, push came to shove and I began hunting for a repair shop. Of course, Comp-Pros was one of the top businesses listed on Yelp! due to its number of 5-star reviews. I always find that super suspicious. I began looking through reviewer profiles to assess whether or not they were likely to be bots. I did that for the other highly-rated businesses, as well. I also requested quotes and assistance through Yelp. After all was said and done, Comp-Pros seemed to fit the bill best and I decided to go consult in person, piece-of-shit laptop in hand. I went in and the staff was friendly. When we discussed the problem, they explained everything they could do to help, and some of the pros and cons of each option. But what really blew me away was when they told me how little it would cost. Funnily enough, that only made me more suspicious. "Great, they're going to do a shit job of repairing my computer and it's going to break further in just a few months, I'll bet." But I gave them a shot. I figured they might be honest and I might just be a paranoid freak. Or maybe they're not honest but on par with similar business so there wouldn't be a point of going anywhere else. "Guess we'll find out in a few months... if my computer really bites the dust, or starts acting a fool along the way, it should be evident that it's deteriorating by then." And here we are. It's been a little over 4 months. The repair was almost as fast as it was affordable. I had only asked them to repair the hardware but they managed to repair the software issue, too (which I hadn't even brought up to them, so that was a pleasant surprise). The laptop runs still runs super smoothly, the fan works great, and there is no indication of any deterioration whatsoever. So there you have it. 5 stars. read more

Awful service. After being quoted $35 and two hours for a fix it turned into a $200 fix. I was told the part would arrive 3-5 business days later and put down a deposit of $100. After 3 weeks I still haven't heard anything so I called and was told they would reorder the part if it still didn't arrive the next day. Another few weeks, still didn't hear anything. Called back again and was told part would arrive within a few days and was promised a call again that never came. Over a month since they originally took my money I received an email that the part arrived and I had to come drop off my computer that same day or they would ship it back. Oh and that my phone was unreachable - which as someone who uses the phone all day I can confirm is not the case. Finally got my computer fixed. Would recommend to go anywhere else if you expect good customer service or a prompt response. read more

I had a great experience working with Allen at Comp Pros! My laptop was working fine and then all of the sudden, I heard a strange sound and started smelling something burning, and from that point forward my laptop stopped working. This was the first time this has happened to me and unfortunately I didn't have my data backed up on a cloud service or external hard drive, so I was potentially going to have years of work and data lost. Allen was very warm and personable and made the circumstance seem less stressful by sharing his knowledge of what the problem could be on first looking at it, but also sharing the different options and services they provide, making me feel like I was in good hands and had the flexibility of different choices depending on the final diagnostic. My motherboard ended up being fried, and the laptop was no longer usable, so my main goal was to see if all my data was salvageable. I was glad that Allen offered the option that I could either bring in my own external hard drive or buy one of theirs and they would transfer the data. The timing of considering my options and bringing in an external hard drive were tough as I was working all day but I needed my data soon, so I was glad they were flexible enough to discuss the options with my mom when she went down there in person, and we ended up buying a great external hard drive from Comp Pros and all my data was successfully transferred and they pricing for the services were more than reasonable and it was very helpful to my mom as well as she learned some things about computer and tech that could help both of us in the future. I highly recommend Comp Pros for any of your computer repairs and tech needs because I know I can trust them if anything happens to my computer in the future. The tech guru, Andre, is absolutely amazing: smart, hardworking, patient and produces great results. 8 weeks ago I was formatting a new internal hard-drive on my 2009 Mac Pro Tower. This new drive would be an additional "storage" drive. My primary drive was working perfectly as was my already installed second internal "back-up" drive. So, this NEW drive I was formatting would be a THIRD internal hard drive. While the new drive was in the process of formatting my neighborhood had an electrical blackout. Insane bad luck. This was a Friday evening. The next morning, Saturday, I turned on my computer - not knowing exactly what to expect but prepared to, in all likelihood, start the process all over again. Things got worse. Not only was the new drive "un-formatted" but for whatever reason, my system would no longer read my already installed 4-Terabyte back-up drive. This had thousands of critical business files. As a business practice I back up ALL of my files once a month to a separate external drive. This incident was right BEFORE my monthly back-up so... about 30 days worth of priceless files had vanished. I jumped online early Saturday morning called a few places and Comp-Pros was the only one to answer the phone. They told me to come right over. To be clear - this place does not "specialize" in Macs exclusively - which makes this all the more impressive. I brought in my drive and Andre said he would do an evaluation as quickly as possible, then call me with an assessment and quote. Here's the thing - I wasn't the only person with a computer crisis in Los Angeles that day... but he understood exactly how legitimately important this was to me and my business. Can you imagine how many lunatics he must deal with, who come in daily, in total crisis mode? We all think our computer is the most important in the world. I was no exception "I needed it right away". The truth is, I could have been the "customer from hell" but I recognized pretty quickly that Andre was exhibiting remarkable patience and professionalism for the benefit of my computer. Later that day he called, made no promises, said he would do his best to salvage all the material on that 4 Terabyte drive, and made clear it would take time. The hard drive had THOUSANDS of files on it and the rebuilding process can only go so fast. Also, he gave me a quote and said I would only be billed for that process if it actually worked. To make a long story short I called once a day for 4 consecutive days. The office manager Kelly was great. She must deal with this crap everyday. She was remarkably polite, patient, and informative. All that said, by Wednesday I drove back over there wanting to know why this was taking so long. Again both Andre and Kelly were totally accommodating. They must have thought I was a typical nut-job who thought his computer was the most important in the world. Andre had me come in the back and he not only explained but SHOWED me the methodical, laborious process of EXACTLY how the software was rebuilding all the data on the drive and how he had to back it up to HIS drive... THEN, once it was saved, reformat my original drive (that was trapped in ghost-limbo due to the black out).... Then copy ALL of my "rescued files" on his drive, back to my drive. This was an INCREDIBLY time consuming process - he let me watch with my own eyes (drip, drip, drip -like watching paint dry) but it appeared to be working. Finally, I left and kept my fingers crossed. FINALLY, after 9 days, he called. He had rescued over 1 million files from that 4 Terabyte drive! He had me come in, pick up the drive, bring it home, and test it out on my system. Only after I gave him the "OK" would he erase all of my backed-up files from his drive. Thank God - I got home and it worked! Not only that, but he didn't increase his original quote - not a single penny. Andre gets' an A+ in every conceivable category. The irony of me pointing out his obvious talent is that Andre is actually hard on himself. When I was complimenting him on "saving my drive" he told me because he's Russian, and believes his English isn't "flawless", that he needs to improve as a business provider. Improve? Dude - you RESCUED over a million files. The crazy thing is... over the course of this entire experience I was thinking I know at least a half dozen executives at production companies here in LA that would hire Andre in a heartbeat. I mean that literally - he's that good. I'd go as far as to say (at least in my experience) exceptional. In any event, the reason I didn't write this review immediately was because I left for an east coast production following the incident. I've been back for a couple weeks now and this morning, as I was editing that rescued material, I was marveling at how smoothly the system is running. To me, companies are made by the people. As a student my laptop is my lifeline. Unfortunately mine is a few years old and I can't afford a new one. So when the battery couldn't hold a 1/2 hr charge I took it here. Antonio looked at it and got me a good quote on a replacement battery. He gave me great advice too and suggested an ssd and RAM upgrade would make my computer run better than a lot of midrange ones. I just got the battery at first because... poor student. But I came back a few months later and Andre (dif guy) quoted me the same price so I got the upgrades and WOW it's so much faster now. I had some kind of malware that attached itself to my computer because I clicked on some advertisement by accident. It kept redirecting my home page on Google Chrome & Safari search engines to another page that was focused mainly focused on advertisers. They did a thorough cleaning of my Macbook Pro for viruses and malware. They found 1or 2 and removed them promptly. As you might imagine I was very, very satisfied the first time they helped me out. They did such an exceptional job the first time that I knew where to go when my laptop was acting up. The staff are so polite and knowledgeable! I asked them a ton of questions and they were able to make me feel confident that my laptop could be repaired at a great price. I needed a rush order to be placed and they charged me a reasonable fee. I'm so glad that they have this service. They gave my computer a tune up and discovered the issues that were making it so slow. They called me with updates frequently. This is another one of their many strengths. The staff member that called took the time to let me know what was going on and even answered some more of my questions. Now my laptop is running very well! I also got an external hard drive from them. They only sell top quality items. I'm glad I let them know what kind of hard drive I had because they told me that that brand was unreliable. I also noticed they sell refurbished computers and checked them out. I might just get one of the ones they had on display. One thing I have noticed about Computer Professionals is that they are an honest establishment. I could tell this in the answers that the staff gave me when I asked them so many questions. With high recommendations from friends, I arranged a meeting between Allen and my bosses to have their website built. Allen came dressed up and looked quite dapper. He is a very good-looking fellow. He's as smart as he is good-looking and that's saying a lot. My bosses are not easy people to design a website for from where the conversation went. Initially, I got the impression they wanted a simple site before the meeting. After meeting Allen, it seemed their imagination went wild with possibilities because Allen appeared highly capable and could deliver on their wildest vision. They are on the arty side and that's not easy to work with on this kind of project.
