Such a sad terrible experience today and would likely not be back. Wait time told 5 minutes and after 20 was told I canceled it, literally while standing 5 feet from boating station and never even received any text. After being sat, was able to make a drink order fairly soon so good on that. Appetizers were delivered then waited a bit for drinks so get that bars can get busy so ok with that. Drinks delivered by different server, and order taken, which seemed fine. Few minutes later, another server delivered food (too quick to be ours) and it was messed up. Delivering server was rude when it was pointed out. It appeared she was frustrated with the order taker as she asked him something before delivering to us. Food was already cold on delivery then waited another 5 minutes to get someone's attention to get napkins. Tacos need napkins. They also forgot one taco which when pointed out, shockingly rude, but again, think frustrated. Was able to order another beer eventually when someone came by. About 10 minutes later, got the missing taco. When all food was done and drinks empty for nearly 30 minutes, kept trying to get attention so we could just pay and leave. Still empty used dishes never taken away. (75 minutes into it) Tried to go inside to pay and received cold (we'll get to you) response. Not just us but several people trying to pay and leave. Servers not anywhere near tables but just BS ing. Same thing 20 minutes earlier when trying to get attention to pay. Original food cold. Guac amazing, drinks good, service terrible, hosting bad, location and options fantastic. Not sure what to make of today. If staffing wasn't available, then shut seating sections down. Side note, they did seat two large parties of over 10. I get how that impacts things, but don't seat if don't have the staffing. Never even knew who are server really was. read more

Pretty good food here with an upscale feel. House salsas were very very mild, so we all could enjoy the flavors without pain. Guacamole was creamy with a fun pepitas twist. Tried a few tacos: fish was fried well with a very zesty tartar-like sauce (glad it was on the side); pork had a great smokiness complimented by bbq sauce; beef was pretty dry/overcooked though. In general everything was mild spice, heat-lovers might want to request hot sauce. If you're looking for overpriced beer and subpar food, this is your place. They pride themselves on their handmade tortillas, which are fine. However, $5 for a meh street taco is over the top. I also ordered tortilla soup that was $11.95 and was mainly tortilla strips in an over salted broth. Even though the soup wasn't great, for that price I expected a decent amount but it was closer to a cup. Our friend had a burrito that was very dry. Perhaps that's why I'm giving them only 3 stars; if my expectations had been tempered, I might rate them higher. We ordered burritos and the tortilla soup. The burritos were more like wraps given the ingredients were quite different than what I'd expect from a regular burrito. The tortilla soup was decent, but I'm not sure I would have called it tortilla soup except for the fact that it had tortilla strips in it. The food is solid, definitely not bad, but just kind of "meh". If you enjoy this type of Americanized Mexican food, you'll really like this place. Neither acknowledged us verbally or with a smile or nod. A group arrived behind us and how odd was it that the same waitress walked up and asked them how many were in their party. Picture this, lunch time on July 3rd, one of the busiest times of the year, someone quits, possibly an important kitchen staff member and you know you can't meet the demand of the people waiting for the restaurant to open. But you want to still make money, you have some staff that showed up to work. And you have all the makings for the food that you ordered to cook minus chicken. The first group you sit is a group of 9 including four kids two of whom still nap. Sitting down at 12:04pm, ordering by 12:15. At what time do you think the last two dishes arrived? 1:20pm!. And one of the dishes never arrived. I feel bad for the people that work here. Clearly management / owners are more focused on making money than creating a good reputation and making wise choices so that employees can be set up to do a good job. If the wait staff relies on tips, they need to do a good job to make those tips. If things go wrong its not the restaurant owners pocket that suffers the worst but the people working there. The food was fine, but that can't be the only thing to a dining experience. To have a group wait for more than an hour and never bring one of the dishes?? Never come over to the table and apologize for how long it takes? The person who delivered my tacos at 1:25 literally looked scared. Why would you be scared? Likely a toxic work environment and bad management. Servers should be relaxed, well paid and well managed in order to create a good work environment, keep staff from quitting and make a positive dining experience for customers. The wise choice in this circumstance would have been, when you seat a group like ours especially with young children at lunch time is to say, "hi welcome, I just wanted to alert you, we are going to be slow in the kitchen today because of xyz, but we will do our best to make your dining experience positive." Or better yet, don't seat that many people. Make them wait to sit, tell them how long the wait is. Then we could choose whether we want to wait over an hour for our food, and if we are willing to risk the big meltdown and postponing naps. read more

Decent if disorienting dining!! "Can we please have some guacamole before the ramen arrives?" The concept for Como clearly came from a foodie who likes a comfortable bar with big dining booths and local brews, and Mexican street food, oh and ramen, and sometimes a salad is healthy, and wait you gotta have chicken wings somewhere on the menu. It's disorienting but decent too. Como's license with selection is actually kinda refreshing. It's cool they just didn't care about restaurant norms and did their own thing. This place is like a wander in the culinary woods: nothing completely awesome, but good to be out there and exploring. When we got there we were told it would be 15-20 minutes for 4 people. A group of 6 girls walked up and the bus boy sat them immediately. So that was a bummer to start. Once we were seated by the manager (who was very nice and helpful) all of the ordering is on a website on your phone. This is a bummer because we hate being on our phones at the table, but it makes sense, especially in COVID. But, because of this, there's a definite shortage of staff for other requests and refills. The food was okay. Portions were interesting...a few of us got soup and it was a teeny bowl. Our tacos were good but very small. The torta was good and large. The drinks were strong and yummy. I know it's a pandemic and I appreciate COMO's use of technology to handle staff issues but I'm not sure I"ll be back for awhile. This was my third time there and we had a large party and they kindly seated us prior to all of our party being there. I can't really complain about the food. Kids seemed satisfied with the burritos. I thought the tacos were very good. Guacamole was expensive as all get out but good - pepitas on the top a nice touch. Cocktails - were ok had a flavor of either too much agave or a tequila that wasn't my favorite. I'm not sure which. The problem is that you mainly communicate through the app. Therefore any errors are a pain to correct. And of course I made an error. Took 2 people to fix it. I also asked for an order to-go for my daughter who wasn't with us. They said they weren't doing to-go orders at this time but then kindly (again) offered to put it in a box if I ordered immediately. I did - but the first orders came out in boxes and and not the order that was meant to. I'm not sure why because those orders were ordered much earlier. I had no idea who I could talk to adjust anything so I just kept the boxes, attempted to clean them and threw the to-go order in. I also like getting server recommendations on drinks or best meals, etc and couldn't do that either. It ended up being a rather frustrating experience and with kids I don't have much more bandwidth for frustration. I'll check back at a later time. read more

After spending some time walking around Truckee in July 2021, we found ourselves at Como after neighboring restaurants were unable to accommodate our very hungry dining party. It turned out to a blessing in disguise as Como blew us away on all fronts. Understanding that much of the industry is short staffed, Como's online order system was readily available the minute we sat down on their spacious outdoor patio. While most of our transactions were handled online, we were never left to fend for ourselves, having very pleasant and customer oriented interactions with the staff that delivered our drinks, our appetizers and our meal. Our meals - ranging from burritos to salads to kids meals - were all excellent. Each was composed of fresh ingredients, full of flavor and well proportioned. The owner (I believe) stopped by our table to welcome us and check in on our experience, was able to share with us the quality of ingredients and attention put into our meals, from organic, locally sourced when possible and handcrafted items, such as the pomegranate juice for the tables round of Shirley Temples. This is our third Como dinner in two weeks and each has been exceptional. We ordered online as we drove through Auburn and scheduled a pick up for when we arrived in Truckee. Como sent me a text at the exact minute they promised. I was I half mile away and pick up took less than 30 seconds. We ordered the taco sampler with six different tacos. All were warm, unique, and really tasty. We ordered Carne Asada, chicken, fish etc. The fish especially rocks. They were garnished with pickled carrots and fresh lime. About $25. We were a party of 3, so no automatic gratuity. We were low key and not demanding. We would have tipped at lest 20% if given the opportunity, but it's uncomfortable having that decision made for us. I have never left a review in my life in just in disbelief that a waitress essentially stole a tip. We will not be coming back for this issue alone. I came here to find affordable eats in Truckee. I think this is the only place that's at all possible. I had a wet carnitas burrito to go. They threw in samples of their hot salsas (green and habanero). They replaced salsa roja with the spicy negra. I get the feeling you can customize a burrito any way you like - swap ingredients, choose your meat, etc. Fab. It's Americanized Mex food, take it for what it's worth, but you get a nice selection. Service was great. I want to give it its own paragraph. Very friendly, the whole place (and patrons) was very COVID compliant. Laid back, "take any clean table or just wait wherever". They were having fun mixing drinks while I waited for my food, which took 10-15 minutes to come. It's definitely hipster, just like almost every place in town, but again: price. You won't feel like you're paying 50% extra for being in Truckee. So 4 stars for food, 1 star for service, 1 star for value, and I guess 5 works. read more
