My daughter has been taking classes in cheer, gymnastics and kid's night out at CYC for going on 2 years. We have had nothing but a positive experience, she loves going to class and the new facility is definitely amazing! We are looking forward to many more happy years at CYC. The registration system could be better. Right now everything is manual with requesting classes from last week to the first week of the following month, but my kids got into many of the classes they wanted. While we cannot give this place zero stars because some instructors are good, there is one teacher, Nicki, who is extremely mean. During my son's first gymnastics class, he was kicked out. He came to me with a red eyes full of tears. And what he did was he was running around like a four-year-old exited to attendant to a new class. Nicki was rude when I talked to her, and she even told us not to bring our son back for the rest of the day. It's clear that Nikki can't handle young kids with her rude attitude who are new to her class and need time to adjust. It's disappointing that they can't welcome him and help him learn in a new environment without making him cry and feel bad about himself. read more

i was at the TKD event that the gentleman was complaining about and i saw him push the young man that politely asked him to exit out of the door just a few feet away.Becoming physical with an employee who is just trying to do his job is not the most mature thing to do.I saw the young man in question handle this situation with grace and not retaliate.The gentleman in question was still allowed to watch his student compete,through a glass wall ..which is more than i would allow if someone laid hands on my staff.Next time practice patience sir. read more

I know the reviews here are bad on the customer service for this facility, but don't let that stop you from bring your kids here. CYC offers great and affordable programs for kids(age 3+) to do dance, gymnastic, soccer, wrestling, judo, cheerleadering, taekwondo , boxing as well as academic studies all in a monthly low price that you can not find anywhere. Recently they have done some major remodel to their is a state-of-the-art sports and academic center. It is a place where kids ages 3 to 18 thrive in a dynamic and positive environment. They have excellent coaches that truly care about the kids and their development. They also have several trophies to prove they have a high success rate in their teaching methods. So sometimes your calls don't get return right away..remember it is run mostly by kids and it is a non-profit organization, so they don't have full staff doing the "behind" daily operation items all the time. Most of the funds goes to the coaches/instructors/ and the facility maintenance. For all you parents that gave them a bad review due to the "lack of customer services" you received.. go pay $80-$100 a month for 1 dance or gymnastic class elsewhere.. you are paying for that services with your monthly fee. I rather pay $32 a month (or $42 for both my girls) and deal with the customer services I do get at CYC. I personally never had an issue with the customer services. If you want something done or have a question my go person is Kristin at the front desk. Kristin has always been responsive and friendly toward my questions! If you don't believe that this place is high in demand.. then you never had to wait in line at 4am on a Tuesday morning just to secure a spot for your child. Ask any CYC parents about that and you will know that it is a place in demand. CYC does not have a waiting list..so if you want to enroll your child you will have to show up(and often early in the am) on the opening registration days to sign up your child. If you are flexible in your days/hours.. you should not have any issue getting your child into a program. CYC post their openings slots on their FB page the days before they have open registration. You can get a heads up by liking their FB page. It is a pain to get started due to their lack of "opening" spots and no waiting list policy, but once you are a member and your child is enrolled, the process within the program is easy to maneuver around in regards to transfer and changes in classes based on your needs. Just remember that the programs is a non-profit and runs by mostly kids..so bring your patience and remember why you are there ..it's for your kid and you and your child will love being a member of CYC. read more

My first and last experience with CYC summer camp: I took both of my kids (9 & 12 yrs) here on a Monday at 7:30a for summer camp for the early drop off. I was in a bind so I enrolled them that morning and planned to have them there the entire week. When I walked in, there were two dudes at the front desks so I led my kids to the open gym area. It was so hot at 8am and there were two other kids sitting on mats ALONE, out of view from any adults with lots of mats stacked high all over the place. (To me this was a problem because who knows what might go on in there with old and young kids mixed together.) I had to TELL the staff to get out some balls, or turn on music or something, like Hello!! "Are the kids going to JUST sit here for 90 minutes until camp starts?" - The staff had no plan or curriculum whatsoever. But they did get it going. Later in the day, my kids called me freaking out because "everyone was leaving" so I had them put an adult on the phone, who did not even know they were enrolled in after care. My kids BEGGED me not to send them back, said there was no air conditioning (Concord in summer!) and the sports camp had them run all day and they weren't allowed to talk or they had to run laps. WTF? I cancelled my check ($450 for two kids) that day so I wouldn't have to deal with trying to get a refund. read more

Very helpful, the trainers are professional, the schedule of classes is flexible. Smaller classes than anywhere else, about 6 people. You get a lot of classes for your buck and a lot more great customer service from the management team. read more

This is the worst place ever , all of the staff aren't professional especially with dealing with customers. They don't have a system that you can rely on. They talk to parents with rudeness . Here is what happened. First, They didn't accept any changes in schedule for classes in-person, you should send them an email or give them a call which is fine , I followed their rules and accepted it , I sent them an email asking for a change in schedule for the class of my son , he originally goes 2 times a week, So I got confirmation emails with the 2 days for the new schedule "Wednesdays and Fridays". On Wednesday when he went to the class as usual they didn't let him in and told us that he is assigned for Fridays only . How come?!! He has been attending 2 days a week for almost 2 months. When I started asking more about that change , she brought her supervisor "a woman with dark skin colour wearing glasses" . I told her what happened, and to my surprise she was extremely impolite and rude, she kept yelling at me in front of my kid..., even when I told her I have confirmation emails from the place. She keeps saying it will be only one day and which day you prefer? the system is wrong , and it is automatic email , my son cried a lot because they didn't let him in this day and this is the second time for them to do that . They made him cry before for the same reason. The first time was same issue but we changed the schedule orally and the coach confirmed the change ,when he went there they did not let him play saying any change in the schedule should not be orally but it should be done online . and that what we did the second time and now they told us it is the system issue read more

This center has been open for as long as I can remember and they not only churn out amazing athletes year after year, but scholars as well. The premise in which the CYC is built on is extremely noble: to be a place which allows kids to be involved in both athletic and academic activity on a year-round basis which takes them out of the streets and puts them on a track for success. With a support system that revolves around the benefits of athletics, many kids have gained invaluable skills by enrolling at the CYC. I have personally enrolled all of my siblings in the Center's programs because they have top-notch coaches and a place where they can work on homework before, after or in-between their classes. The atmosphere at CYC promotes long-term relationships as many of the children here have been going for years, yet they are always open to meeting new people. For those bashing on the registration staff, I have been inside the office often and have seen the amount of work this staff carry out. It's not that hard to take some time out of your day to stop by the office or to head onto the CYC's website to confirm a class time. I think some of these reviewers are being selfish and not realizing how much goes on in the office. All in all, the CYC provides membership to over 1,000 children at a rate of $1/day; something that is invaluable, especially in this economy. My review is for the dance classes headed by Miss Rolleen. She is amazing! She has only been with CYC for a couple of months but my daughter just loves attending all her 3 class with her. I've seen her personally correct the dancers steps or postures. She made enrolling easier, maybe because there was not much people waking at 3 am to enroll in Jazz class or turns and leap so all I had to do was sign her up at the office for both class. Also, she will buy pizza for the girls when they get their splits right! read more

I don't normally post but this place deserves it since I have seen mixed reviews. OK lets start with I have 3 kids that go here. 2 of my boys are in boxing and my 4 yr old daughter in gymnastics. Both my boys play competitive travel baseball so I went with Boxing to work on hand speed and their foot work so they can be even stronger on the baseball field. The 1st hour they play soccer and and dodge ball. I didn't understand it at first but can you imagine the kids staying engaged for the 1st hour doing warm ups?. So this is a fun way to get them warmed while working on cardio and footwork all the while the kids don't even realize it. Very Smart. The coaching is incredible and the boys are now sparring. Its great watching your own kids learn to take a hit, stand tall and then give it back. Super happy with the boxing program. We do 3 x a week as we have baseball practice 2x a week. We do Mon, Wed & Friday. Now the 4 year old. I did have to stand outside early in the morning to get the princess a spot but this was told to me prior to registration. I will say staff recommended I camp out to get a spot for my princess but I didn't do that instead I got there around 5:30A.M. and let me say I was still the 10th person in line so others were there way before me. I waited outside in the cold for about 4.5 hrs but it was worth it because I got my daughter the Friday time slot that worked for our schedule. We have 3 kids in CYC and pay less then $70 a month. You will not find a better deal. Parking is scarce but thats expected, no big deal. Customer Service could be better but that is the least of my worries, I have no issues with CYC customer service. First off, my son is three and I pay $33 a month to this facility and he can enroll in an activity or sport he qualifies for age wise. That's a steal of a deal. He does one day of soccer and one day of gymnastics. The instructors in both courses take the job seriously and give him excellent instruction. He thoroughly enjoys his classes and cannot wait for them each week. Wendy at the front desk is beyond helpful and informative. She is very thorough in explaining how everything works and she is so helpful and makes it easy for you when she can. Just today she stood with my son while I went to grab the car because it was pouring out. She stood outside with him and made sure he was safe. Hard to find people like Wendy these days...she is an absolute treasure and I would recommend CYC to anyone based on my experience with her alone. Go Wendy! read more

I am very grateful for the programs overall, but I found a few concerns with 1) staff members at office and 2) taekwondo class instructor. The majority of front desk staff members are not often professional, polite, and they don't seem happy working there. For example, I called for few days trying to figure out one question but it always went to voicemail, so I went to the office. One female staff said "Yeah we got your voicemail" while putting her make up with her feet on a table. I felt that she didn't care about my question. Another staff always looks frustrated, not motivated to have conversation, and I have never seen her smile even a bit .... ;( About the class, I am happy with the soccer class and the teachers. They are polite, professional, and they start on time. However, I found many parents (including myself) being concerned about the taekwondo class. The class (30 min) always starts 5 min late but always finishes on time. Before the class starts, the instructor is always in his office right next to the dojo, but he won't come out till 5 min after. He won't greet anyone, and he doesn't seem passionate or excited. This was something I often hear parents are talking about so I thought I should share. As a person who does martial art in Asia for 10 years, this was a little bit of cultural shocks to me. read more

Instructors are not professionals. So for gymnastics expect some over waited lady that eats during classes. Registration system is the worth ever seen. I've never felt myself embarrassed like that. I can't believe that Yelp has only one review for CYC. We have been members for 7 years already. In the beginning it was my son, participating in Taekwondo class. Now my 5 years old daughter is taking gymnastics class. They have much more and yes it is cheap (26 dollars per month) . You need to be accurate to sign up in time for the sessions. This is a minus. They have a lot of people on the admission day to sign up that says that they provide popular programs and the instructors are also good. The best time to get in the program is summer when people are going on vacations. read more

This is the worst place I have ever experienced in my life!!! Please, stay away. They don't watch the kids. Nobody is in charge. My daughter went to the early drop off and the coach has never picked her up. She went talk to the stuff but they dismissed her. She was waiting for several hours. Then she demanded that they call me immediately which they did but I was at work, so I missed the call but called back 15 min. later. They said that they know nothing about my daughter. I told them that she is supposed to be in a class and they dismissed me, telling me that she probably is then. At the end of the day I found out, that my 10 year old daughter was waiting in the hall and in the front room for the whole day, crying with the staff ignoring her or dismissing her. I paid $210 for the week from 7AM - 6PM which includes the early drop of. The lady in the office was super rude. Telling me that they are not responsible for the kids there. She was also lying about the phone call she made from the office. She said I have no idea from where your daughter was calling. I had their number in the phone log.. After the day in this center my daughter was so distressed she was in a panic and shaking. These people should not work with children. This review is for the overall organization staff not for the classes -since my daughter didn't experience them. So far they refuse to give me a refund or admitted any responsibility. read more

Yes, the office staff is young and immature, as are most of the coaches. Some better than others. You get what you pay for. The sign up routine is ridiculous. You have to stand in line before the crack of dawn to sign your kid up. For hours and hours- that's not right or necessary. I think it's because most of the people are poor and have no voice. CYC takes advantage of these people. The parking is absolutely horrible. I am very disappointed in the wrestling program. It pits smaller, younger kids against bigger, older kids. After driving a long distance to get to my son's class one day, ---and leaving the house in time to get there with some wait time, --and then experiencing some bad traffic on the way, we were 13 minutes late. The wrestling area is a very long walk from where I was able to park, so that added on about 8 minutes. We had never been late before, and my son is a very nice boy. He didn't deserve to be dismissed by this coach. The young coach tells my 6 year old that he couldn't join the class since he was late. My son cried and came to tell me. I wasn't going to approach the coach and tell him my views, so we just left. Number one, the clock in the auditorium is 5 minutes too fast. I checked my phone for the correct time. We were only 3 minutes over the 10 minute late time rule. Number two, you shouldn't tell a 6 year old the bad news, you should call his parent over to tell them. Number three, he had never, ever been late before. Number four, the traffic was really bad for some reason, an accident, we were not late on purpose, or due to our negligence. Number five, do you people have any sympathy or compassion? Is it just follow the rules, or screw you? You have no compassion, or individual thought of your own. You made a little 6 year old boy cry, and now he says he won't go back. As I said, you get what you pay for. read more

CYC is part of the foundation of community with many athletic programs such as gymnastics, martial arts, dance and the best Greco wrestling coaches in the Nation. These programs are held in an academic environment enriching the lives of our youth forever. The cost is unbelievably low making this opportunity available to virtually everyone that can get to CYC. For an academic advantage or competitive advantage in athletics guided by great coaches and caring staff, come visit CYC. My son wanted to wrestle competitively and CYC had a hard to find youth wrestling program, we are astonished everyday at what CYC has to offer. Check out the summer programs there are still openings. My son still talks about last years summer wrestling camp and the fun he had. My daughter takes gymnastics and ballet at age 4 at CYC. The gymnastics program like all of the programs I have seen there are completely organized and could very easily lead to competitive gymnastics. read more

Was excited to send my children are for the same youth center that I went to during high school for judo however not even a month into this I would regretted my decision shortly after. The taekwondo instructor on Monday evenings at 7 PM grabbed my son by the shoulder and pushed him out of the class because he was 15 minutes late. Did not communicate to his stepmom at all and just became physical. When the stepmother went to the front desk to discuss what happened the front desk attendant simply said well yeah you're 25 minutes me and Earl. For my daughters tap dance and ballet class that takes place on Saturday mornings the instructor implemented that parents are not to stand and watch her interfere with the class but when again the stepmother went to check on her the teacher had presumed class while my daughter. This community center is not about community or there for the children at all. The front desk is a joke run by high school kids who do not know one thing about responsibility or proper customer service. And the instructors are not providing any help or memorable experiences to these children. Hopefully they can get it together and maybe hire some new instructors that actually like being around kids and teaching. read more

Two stars because I do appreciate the classes that they offer for my kids. I am super disappointed in their customer service especially with a particular staff member Cassidy. Long story short I wanted to adjust my sons schedule over the phone. The Cyc has put him in a class that I had never asked for and I was calling to get advice on what would work with our schedule. Mind you due to his age there are very few classes that would work and coincide with the ones he was already assigned. I cannot express how rude this particular staff member Cassidy was on the phone. She told me that I would need to come in and get a schedule and do it in person. If this is their new policy it was definitely news to me and she didn't take the time to express this change whatsoever. Instead she talked down to me and told me that she was too busy to help me and she didn't have the time to go through the entire schedule with me. I just thought she was incredibly rude and her attitude shone through anything else. I called the customer supervisor to complain I am pretty sure they are friends because at the end of our call she had me feeling guilty about my complaint in the first place. She also let me know they changed their policy and you can no longer adjust your classes over the phone which is fine I am just more upset over the message from rude Cassidy and to top it off she's the assistant office manager. She should work on answering the phones and if she's too busy maybe she shouldn't answer them ever. I am sure as most parents would feel the last thing we want is to be greeted with nothing but attitude at our kids activity center. read more

This organization is phenomenal! Although we haven't had the opportunity to utilize the sports-side of the facility, the tutoring center is outstanding. Specifically, "Sam" is a tremendous tutor. He is patient and brings out the best from his students. He is a very impressive subject matter expert in both math and science. Kudos to all the tutors at CYC for their expertise and enthusiasm in academically helping these kids. It's priced reasonably as well. read more

I have experienced the CYC cheer program, and I regret it terribly. The website is NEVER updated, the coaches are not helpful to students or parents, the girls are NOT very kind to one another, injuries left and right-need I go on? Yes, it's cheap, but remember, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. My daughter's confidence has plummeted due to the lack of encouragement, and that coach works the girls far too hard-dangerously hard. I DO NOT recommend cheer at CYC to anyone looking for a scarring experience! read more

Well, I'm hoping my review is posted, considering some are "filtered"....I really enjoyed this center when I first started taking my daughter there. She participated in several activities there....the AE program is excellent and it really helped her bring all her grades up to straight A's! She also participated in the boxing program and the recreational cheer program and we were happy there. At one point I got a call from the head coach of the competitive cheer program, Nicolle, she told me that my daughter had a lot of potential and would be great in the competitive cheer program and wanted her to try-out...so she did and of course she absolutely loved it. There were so many red flags from the very beginning and the deeper we got into the sport, the more research I did on other programs and the sport itself and I began to get more and more concerned but my daughter loved to cheer. I began to stay for all the practices which made the coach noticeably uncomfortable, I watched girls be injured and not receive any attention from the coaches-in fact if they were injured during practice but continued without resting or receiving ice they would win the "Beast" award. Despite all my misgivings we made it through the first year, and although I was anxious to leave the program and go to another one, my daughter was adamant about staying at CYC, she didn't want to "betray" Nicolle(her actual words) she ate, drank and slept cheer and her coach Nicolle was her idol! ALL the girls felt that way about Nicolle. Well in November of 2012, as a family we were thinking of moving and of course my daughter wasn't thrilled, she looked up to her coach and looking for support, confided in her about our possible move-Well, Nicolle told her she "wouldn't fit in" at the high school in the area we were moving to and after my daughter confided in her she also began treating her different, singling her out during practices-my daughter was crushed, she would cry on the way home from practice, she would cry during practice and eventually she began crying on the way TO practice. The coach blamed me and said she only cries when I'm at a practice so I only went to one a week and sneak in and sure enough she will still be crying and she hadn't even seen me. I tried talking to the coach and the director, Kim on numerous occasions but they just dismissed me. My daughter was also on 2 teams that practiced back to back so after 4 1/2 of cheer she would be exhausted but the coach wouldn't give her a break, she wouldn't even give any of the girls water breaks unless they ran their routine perfectly. The coaches also had their "favorites", some girls were treated much better than others, I know this because my daughter was a "favorite" until she said that wouldn't be returning for a 3rd season with CYC. The coach refused to teach or spot her on any new tumbling skills because she was leaving...in JUNE after comp season and we were still in JANUARY! Finally after a particularly abusive extra practice before a comp., I was waiting in the lobby and my daughter ran out of the practice, room hysterical, begging me to let her go home because she was tired and she was having trouble breathing. I told the director, who was standing there when it happened and she told me that maybe this wasn't the right thing for my daughter-now mind you, my daughter was on the highest level team and achieved ALL her tumbling skills in 10 months, something that very few cheerleaders can accomplish, that is how serious she is! Well Kim, the director said if she was me as a parent she would pull her daughter so that is exactly what I did-right in the middle of comp season, my daughter lost the rest of the season because of this mean, immature head coach, Nicolle and the ineffective director of the cheer program, Kim, who refused to protect the children or even speak to the coach about her abuse-you would think that us leaving would be the end of this drama but you would be wrong. After leaving I was approached by many parents and even tonight 5 months after leaving I heard from another parent that they were told that my daughter left due to her poor grades! WHAT?!? My daughter had STRAIGHT A's-but the coach is telling everyone that she was a poor student to cover up the real reason we left, who does that?! And that is what has prompted me to write this review after all this time! Let me make myself clear CYC is a great place and offers many great programs but BEWARE OF CYC CHEER! To this day my daughter's former cheer teammates continue to bully her via fb and instagram! CYC cheer is a bully factory and the coach was the biggest bully of all! There are so many more things I could say but I am really trying to move past this-we are in another cheer program now and we love it! The coaches here are wonderful role models, professional, strict but NOT abusive! read more
