When I pulled up, I was still a bit anxious about this as the front lot was full and I had to pull to the back to park. Once I got out of my car and walked through the cafe to the front to order my anxieties about seating had diminished. It's much larger inside than the outside appears and the photos here on Yelp don't really do the indoors justice. Yes, the outdoor seating is really cute and well shaded so I get why folks focus on it, but if you're like me and wanting to get some work done you'll find a comfortable spot here. Now onto the coffee. As I made my way into the shop I noticed one of my art school professors (we both sort of looked at each other like "do I know you?") and I moved on, but that's a good sign. The art teachers usually know where to snag a decent cup of coffee. When I ordered I tried one of their special drinks and chatted with the baristas about it before I made my choice. Can't speak for the fly fishing part, and quite frankly, you'd need to get on an airplane and make probably more than one flight to get to a suitable location to engage in that as far as I'm aware. But this I can confirm: they make an exceptional cup of coffee here, particularly their house brew which uses Messenger Coffee out of Kansas City. Perfectly stout, no bitterness, exceptional finish, one of the best I've had in the city in awhile. But what really sets them apart is the friendly service from the owners, the kind that can't be faked. A few nice tables in the middle of the shop for hanging out and free wireless internet service is available. With Alchemy shuttering their doors across the street, Great Blue Heron fits the bill very nicely in this area of Mass Street. Very highly recommended.

My boyfriend tried the Fugue State: Old overholt rye, bigallet China-china, tiki bitters, Lambrusco, and orange peel. He liked it and said it was like an old fashioned.
