If you love to support local, this place is such a hidden gem with fresh food. Their sourdough bread is absolutely one of my favorites and they have a beautiful patio for fresh air to dine. The staff here are always so friendly and it's just a welcoming environment. Their pastries, AMAZING. Definitely worth the buy and so fresh.

Great vibes. I enjoyed my latte on the back patio and made a new feline friend who came right up to me even sat on me for a few minutes as I waited for my breakfast. Loved my seasonal toast with Asian pears Almond slices, local honey drizzle on top of goat and ricotta cheese spread on sourdough. Definitely a great combo of sweet and a touch of savory.

A hidden gem!! One of my favorite breakfast spots in Jacksonville. It's a cute little shop. They keep the items on their food menu relatively simple but the ingredients are clean which is rare to find. We only buy our sourdough bread here (weekly). I have been craving the banana bread since I tried it last week - please have that more often!!

This is such a cozy spot that really does feel like community is at the heart of what they do. Their food is fresh every time and their outdoor seating is such a vibe.

A community staple and a must visit. They showcase fresh baked goods and have coffee, tea, and other beverages to accompany your meal or snack. I typically just grab a simple pastry from here. I like their guava pastry. I also enjoy their basic croissants. I would say plan accordingly because they do tend to sell out or sell a good bit day to day! Great place to stop in for that community vibe, hence the name. They have ample in and outdoor seating but on weekends it can get more crowded. A great spot for a pick me up treat.

I first visited this bakery when I moved to JAX 4 years ago. It's one of the reasons I fell in love with the city. It's nestled in Murray Hill amongst a community of adorable homes and local businesses. The floors creak and there the seating is close together, which is what I adore about it. You're close to your neighbors and can hear people enjoying each other's company. It's truly a community gathering spot. The food is delicious and just look at the layers of the pastry (in photo), that's solid work to achieve that.

If "locally sourced food" is your love language, then Community Loaves is your soulmate. I stopped by for a quick bite and left plotting how to rearrange my life so I can have breakfast here every morning! For food, I had the everything croissant, which came with a surprise twist: chive cream cheese. It was an extremely pleasant surprise. I paired that little morsel with an iced dirty chai. Not overly sweet, but flavorful enough to make you question why you'd ever settle for less. The outdoor seating was so cute! It's the kind of place where your coffee just tastes better because the vibes are immaculate. And the staff? Absolutely wonderful--so friendly! Community Loaves gets five stars, not because I'm generous, but because they earned every single one. Highly recommend swinging by--but be warned, you might leave obsessed.

Absolutely love this place. The food is simple local and yum, the coffee is fresh and yum and the sourdough keeps me coming back. My only gripe is they NEVER open on time. When trying to make a quick morning stop, be sure to pack your patience. They are supposed to open at 8am but there is generally some sort of delay. If you find yourself there at opening, join the queue, soak up the fresh air and wait for the doors to be unlocked.

I love this little spot! It stays busy and it has limited supplies of certain items but I think that is what makes it soo good. The bread is always fresh and the coffee is always delicious. I most recently had a breakfast sandwich which I would highly recommend! Every pastry I have had has been delicious but the fresh bread is my absolute favorite! Some delicious bread with just a bit of butter toasted, it hits every time!!!

The inside is so cute and the atmosphere is so cozy and welcoming. They also have outdoor seating, which is honestly just a vibe on a great weather day like today. Starting off with the coffee, I tried their seasonal iced Sweet Potato Spice Latte and it was SO yummy!! You could taste the subtle hints of the spice and it wasn't too overwhelmingly sweet. The espresso was also very smooth, not too sour/bitter! (Are we surprised tho??? when is @boldbean espresso not perfection). I also tried the pastries and sandwiches! We couldn't choose just one so we tried the guava and sweet potato pastries! If I'm being completely honest I probably wouldn't get the sweet potato pastry again, but the guava one was an absolute winner!!!

I guess I completely forgot to take pictures of the food... but it was still yummy! I had the Apple Spice Sourdough Pancakes and an Avocado toast with an egg on it. The Apple Spice Pancakes were delicious! They had a great amount of apple/pumpkin/spice in them. I love the small apple chunks as well as the pecans. It was topped off with a huge wad of salted butter though, which could have definitely been placed on the side so that it didn't soak through and saturate the center of the pancake. The avocado toast on Rosemary Parmesan break was yummy, but the egg on top was just okay. It was a way too over cooked and because of that, was not that great. I also ordered a chai tea here. Despite asking for it to be as scalding as possible, it was lukewarm and the drink must have been at least 70% just water. I'm not sure if I just caught them on a bad day?? The vibes here are great though, because the community so clearly loves them and everyone that works there is very sweet. There definitely could be some improvements.

This place offers a casual indoor and outdoor ambiance (in the weather situation when I stopped in, outdoor was the clear favorite). They offer a variety of baked goods to go and prepared food items for those that wish to sit. I saw the option for a white bean and avocado sandwich and was thrilled; you don't need to have some crazy new fake meat product to make a good vegetarian breakfast. I ordered it, and it was a robustly flavored sandwich with pesto inside. Adding a salad, however, was not a great decision. Don't get me wrong, the lettuce was delightfully crisp and the house dressing flavorful, but $5 for a little lettuce and some dressing just isn't worth it. On the other hand, their chai latte was full of all the flavor one could ask for. The bun I took to eat later was sweet and delicious. I might have taken a loaf if the service had been a bit speedier, but I was happy with what I got.

    Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup

My friend and I had never visited Community Loaves so made a date to have lunch here. You wait "outside" on the porch until you can get inside for the line. They have menus outside so you can decide what you want while you're waiting. The line moves fairly quickly. Up front is a bakery case with lots of goodies for sale. Even though it was fairly early for lunch (11:45) the case was quite empty. She said they sell out quickly, so get here early if you want something specific. We both ordered Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup. It is self-serve for water, silverware, and napkins, which we didn't know, but watched others and figured it out. The inside is quaint, with a hand-painted mural on one wall. Seating is not bad, with small tables. If you have a large group you'll, need to scoot chairs around. The Grilled Cheese was gooey and filled with onion jam. It was toasted well. The tomato soup was not a cream soup, but broth based. It was good but could have used something to spice it up a bit. Tasted like tomatoes in a broth, without much flavor. I was somewhat confused about the 10% service charge they add on your bill. Pretty much everything is self-serve, including bussing your own table. If you need to pay your employees more, then do so and just reflect that in your pricing. I don't expect a service charge when I order at a counter, get my own drinks and silverware, and bus my own table. But that's just my opinion. Menu is quite limited, and if not for the bakery case, can't say I will be back for breakfast and/or lunch.

Good baked goods, horrible customer experience. Baked goods aren't quite good enough to offset obnoxious employees, or conceited customers.

Our visit to Biscottis in Jacksonville's Avondale neighborhood managed to do both. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and seated immediately, and the atmosphere had a welcoming energy that made the restaurant feel like a true neighborhood gathering place. Susan ordered the Quiche Lorraine, and after the first bite we both knew it was something special. The crust was delicate and buttery while the filling was rich and perfectly balanced. It was so impressive that we awarded it our Culinary Duo Best of the Best dish recognition, which is something we reserve for truly standout dishes. Peter went in a different direction and ordered the Sweet Potato Pancakes with house made white cheddar hash browns. The pancakes were flavorful and comforting, and the hash browns were crispy with bold cheddar flavor that made them impossible to stop eating. Another thing we appreciated was learning that Biscottis carries the Slow Food First Coast Snail of Approval, recognizing restaurants that support sustainable agriculture and local food traditions. The service throughout the visit was cheerful and attentive, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there. If you enjoy restaurants that combine great brunch dishes, incredible desserts, and a lively neighborhood atmosphere, Biscottis is definitely worth visiting.

Pretentious and overrated…read more I wanted to like this place - it has such a hype. But the food is terrible. The burger is greasy/wet, it is drenched in a bland cheese sauce, the meat is underseasoned, and the patty has no sear. Definitely not worth anything near the $21 cost. The salmon BLT is served on bread that is cut so thick you're mostly just eating old/stale bread, and the sandwich is also greasy. Their french fries come drenched in a disgusting garlic oil and cheap grated parmesan. It's bad cooking dressed up to look fancy without any understanding of the basics. The restaurant fits as well. Its ugly artwork is accompanied by furniture that looks like it was ripped out of a Le Pain Quotidien. The cakes look amazing, and the bar is nicely designed and well stocked, but neither saves the drab surrealist-cafeteria vibe of this pretentious establishment.

When we ordered, he mumbled back and forth and seemingly didn't understand our relatively simple order, which was a bagel, egg and cheese sandwich and a PBJ on a bagel. My wife also got an iced coffee drink. The man at the counter had an attitude with us the whole time, especially after my wife asked for an iced coffee rather than the hot coffee he served. He was huffing and slamming doors and dishes, and it was really unnerving. The most egregious part was the cost. For the above three items, this man actually charged $31. I didn't even bother to argue with him and just paid the tab. There's no way we weren't overcharged, but I'm equally certain he would have resisted any attempt to examine the bill or gotten angrier... over nothing. We didn't say anything or do anything to this man other than place the order and return the hot coffee, which was his mistake. The whole atmosphere was uncomfortable, and I will strongly recommend no one visit Old Cup cafe. You will be ripped off, or retaliated against, and you will not enjoy the experience. Places like this need to just go out of business, and I can't imagine they're long for this world with so many better and more affordable spots in Avondale. Head to Southern Grounds and avoid Old Cup at all costs.
