Upon walking in, there are a couple of shelves featuring various types of books. What I find interesting is that there are always books on these shelves that favor left-leaning topics. There are a few reasons this is disappointing. One, the majority of this community has the opposite value system. So to many, this would feel like intentional gas-lighting. Secondly, I don't understand why the library wants to engage in such divisive topics? If they feel the need to display these type of books, why not offer some balance and include all voices and perspectives instead of just one? Visiting this library always makes me feel disenfranchised and bummed out.

My years have taught me to always have a few good books to read somewhere. Fast forward to two kids later and I laugh at the notion of ever immersing myself in television or literature again. Now I just want good, easy, important and fun activities for my free (yah right) time. I wasn't expecting much out of a small community library, however this branch far exceeded any preconceived notion. One, the grounds are beautiful. It's apparent that there is a team behind the library that works to make being outside just as peaceful as inside. I often spend hours with my youngest right outside the library door while my oldest works in Lego Club. Yes I said it, Lego Club. Are you kidding me Liberty Lake Library? Yet the library is always cozy, welcoming, and sufficient. All they need now is a replacement for Pete the Library Cat (RIP). I've found that if I purchase books, I generally don't finish them; but if they come with a due date, I have an incentive to read and explore. In the past year, this library has probably purchased a dozen new books for me. I read the Bookshelf review column in the Wall Street Journal, get excited about some new title (this happens frequently with me), and go to the library website to put it on hold. Sometimes they have it, in which case they ship it to me at the Clark Fork branch. If they don't have it, they'll find it on Inter-library loan; in the recent past this includes 50-lb. art tomes and a book out of print since the 1950s. If they think it'll interest their clientele, they'll buy it. Any way it comes, I receive an email notification and can descend from my snug aerie on the mountainside, snatch my shiny new prize from the friendly library ladies, and flee back home to my cozy chair by the fire to crack it open. No, it's not a big-city library; I don't expect that. It's a gem in this small mountain town, an asset to the folk who live here, and my second-favorite building in Clark Fork.

The smell is alluring. The lighting is perfect. The peace is palpable. On top of the incredible atmosphere, the staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable: often with sales popping up here and there. They have a big selection of kids books, romance, mystery, and general fiction. I didn't head over to the other side of the store with all the non-fiction biographies history and other types. The store is set up very nice neat and clean. We ended up getting a bunch of kids books and because we joined their trade in program each hardback was two dollars and every softback book was a dollar. Definitely gonna be coming to this bookstore a lot.

This location happens to be within a few minutes walk from my home. I've been coming here for…read moreyears and have come to appreciate the branch for it's size and selection of books, movies, and music. I also like the kids programs they put out. My daughter has been a part if the summer reading program for years and I believe that has helped her become the avid reader she is today. They also have other children's programs that are a lot of fun. The branch staff has basically been the same for quite a long time and they have always been friendly and helpful. The only issue I have found here is parking during summer months. Because it is located next to a city pool it can sometimes be an issue to find a spot. The Spokane libraries do a wonderful job of making the library experience easy. You can order materials that are located at other branches and have them delivered to your local branch. You can get free music downloads by popular artists through Freegal. Computer usage is easy and you can block times online. If you haven't been for a while you should check out all they have to offer.

It's the greatest place on earth. My idea of a great Saturday afternoon is to spend an hour browsing the aisles of the library and picking out books based on fun titles, cool cover photos and other random selection processes. The librarians at the Shadle branch are friendly and helpful. The kids section is adorable with little couches and blocks strewn about for playing. Overall, great library.
