Recently renovated and re-opened. The space feels open and bright…read more Large play area suitable for toddlers and maybe K-3 students. Four computers dedicated to kids, but not nearly enough for peak times. After school the kids stack 2-3 deep waiting for a turn. There are four little study nooks with power outlets, and plenty of other seating and tables. The whole back wall is glass and they did a beautiful job. Open concept favors safety and security but sacrifices volume as the noise tends to bounce everywhere. Overall a huge improvement but easily strained by the volume of users during peak times.

When you're driving down Perry, you can almost miss it. It is a very unassuming building with…read morealmost a hidden stature. There's a very large parking lot, big enough for anyone to find a spot. The parking lot is also decently shaded so it offers a cool alternative to the summer heat. The front doors are automatic and slide directly into the library itself as you pass the desk. As soon as you enter, there is a budget bookshelf of books for sale. Then you get into the real library. They have bathrooms and seating areas and a drinking fountain and computers to use as well as bookshelf upon bookshelf. If you know what you were looking for, you might need to ask someone or use a computer to look it up because there are not great labels on all of the rows. It could also be a little bit cleaner, and a little more organized. If you were just looking to browse, as I often do, then it is a nice place to wander around. I wish they were more comfortable sitting around where all of the bookshelves are, but it's just a dream. They offer a hands-free check out which is very helpful especially when you're an introvert and don't really want to talk to the receptionist. If you do have to talk to them however, they are very nice and helpful :-) I would recommend it for people who have a library card and want to find some thing that will enhance and excite them.

This location happens to be within a few minutes walk from my home. I've been coming here for…read moreyears and have come to appreciate the branch for it's size and selection of books, movies, and music. I also like the kids programs they put out. My daughter has been a part if the summer reading program for years and I believe that has helped her become the avid reader she is today. They also have other children's programs that are a lot of fun. The branch staff has basically been the same for quite a long time and they have always been friendly and helpful. The only issue I have found here is parking during summer months. Because it is located next to a city pool it can sometimes be an issue to find a spot. The Spokane libraries do a wonderful job of making the library experience easy. You can order materials that are located at other branches and have them delivered to your local branch. You can get free music downloads by popular artists through Freegal. Computer usage is easy and you can block times online. If you haven't been for a while you should check out all they have to offer.

It's the greatest place on earth. My idea of a great Saturday afternoon is to spend an hour browsing the aisles of the library and picking out books based on fun titles, cool cover photos and other random selection processes. The librarians at the Shadle branch are friendly and helpful. The kids section is adorable with little couches and blocks strewn about for playing. Overall, great library.

Pretty decent library, and one that typifies the turn libraries have taken in the past 10 years or…read moreso from simple, functional, massive collections of stuff (books, typically), to more inviting and multi-functional community spaces. Which is to say they don't have a huge selection of material. It's actually a little shocking how few shelves they have, and of these, maybe 70% is devoted to books and the rest is DVDs, CDs, games, Audio books and so forth. There is a massive open space devoted to children, with whimsical spaces for kids to hang out. Lots of comfortable seating for grown-ups as well, and it's functional and clean. Overall the design and aesthetic is top-notch. Beautiful, high ceilings with warm lighting. Floor to ceiling windows surround the majority of the building letting in lots of natural light. The location is a bit odd, and I'm guessing they figure the space will be filled in with more density 5-10 years down the road since right now the surrounding area is a bit under-developed. The park right outside makes the library a great 1-2 punch for an outing with kiddos. Bathrooms are clean. Lots of conference rooms for groups. Contracted security on-site every time I've been here, which is both good and bad depending on how you look at it.
