Finally, Dr. Samels had a great bedside manner and gave me the most thorough and informative eye exam I've ever had. In all the years and all the eye doctors I've seen, I never knew what I'd been missing until I met Dr. Samels. He patiently explained why I now need reading glasses (even though I've had Lasix), had great tips for keeping my eyes in good shape, and let me know what I can expect as I age. They looked it up and confirmed it. So I booked the appointment and went in, thinking everything was fine. Six months later, I get a $145 bill because apparently they don't take United Healthcare Vision... just the medical side. That was never explained to me, and they still took my insurance info and scheduled me like it was all covered. When I called to talk about it, the person on the phone literally said it's not their responsibility to know what people's plans cover. That just blew my mind. They took zero accountability and made it seem like it was all on me, even though I did everything I could to check in advance. It just feels really dishonest, and I'm super frustrated that I had to pay for something I was told was covered. Definitely not going back.

I did not feel rushed, or hurried and the eye exam was thorough. Apparently giving the patient their Pupil Distance (PD) is that is not part of the full diabetic eye exam that my insurance will be billed for. I worked as an Optician for 5 years and this is a little ridiculous. The Space for "PD" is even on the Rx form they give you, just not filled in. It is even part of the automatic Refractometer procedure (Where they auto read your script by having you look at into a machine that makes a farmhouse projection go crisp and blurry). I knew where to look on the readout form and it was plainly there. I chose to purchase my glasses someplace else and they wanted to charge me $15 (after a full eye exam) to do it.

I picked up my new glasses today and I love them. Shout out to Star for providing great service. My friend, who had not purchased her glasses at Valley Vision, was with me and Star asked if she could assist her in any way. Star was eager and willing to adjust my friend's glasses for her. I wear daily disposables and threw away the only pair I had before I realized I didn't pack extra. I called a couple big box stores and no one could help me. I called Badger Optical and they were amazing! He told me I didn't have to transfer my prescription (I knew my numbers) and he gave me a box of samples to get me through the weekend. If they treat someone who will never be a customer this well, imagine how well you will be treated if you can actually provide business! Do yourself a favor and try this place!

This was the BEST exam I've had in 25 years!! You won't be passed from person to person, machine to machine and you won't be there forever! You will get friendly, knowledgeable folks who know what they're doing and do it very well!! Better yet they make the lenses there. I currently have a frame I love & my lenses have little magnets in that hold a pair of sunglasses. I paid a LOT for the sunglass clip & wanted to keep it. Leo is sending my lenses to Green Bay & they can add the magnets. I'll have them back in 3 days. They took my insurance and made everything so easy. I'm so happy to finally have a good, reliable place for my eye exams. I can not say enough wonderful things about this place.
