I usually love coming here and the space is so beautiful but the staff make me want to take my business elsewhere. Particularly the barista with the short brown hair and glasses. She is consistently rude. My last visit she refused to put my tea on Ice (or with a side of ice) and recommended by name other coffee shops nearby I could go to instead. This was after I asked to have my hot tea with a cup of ice on the side. I would have to assume you wouldn't want your employee treating customers in a rude way AND directing them to your competitors. My group of 4 all walked out. My go-to spot in North Park! Communal Coffee is one of my favorite places in San Diego. I absolutely love the Gold Coast latte. It's the perfect balance of bold and sweet, and I find myself ordering it every time. The maple sausage sandwich is also incredible and makes for a perfect pairing. What really sets this place apart is the atmosphere. It's filled with beautiful flowers, the cutest selection of cards, and thoughtfully curated gifts. This is such a darling little coffee shop/boutique with event space in the back. They had the vibes going with a nice playlist this morning, ordered the Strawberry Crème Matcha and an English Muffin. Bummer they didn't have any seasonal jam options like their menu stated but all good. The matcha was absolute perfection, it was not too sweet but still reminded me of strawberry milk. English muffin was delish as well. Drinks were just okay, it didn't have the wow factor. It tasted like coffee versus espresso drinks. Blueberry ginger didn't have a note of blueberry to me and just mostly ginger and with a note of lavender. Banana caramel just tasted like caramel the banana was not present. read more

Stopped by for coffee since I was in the area. I didn't realize it was a sister establishment to Communal until I saw their cups. Loved the space as there's plenty of seating! Parking around the coffee shop can be difficult. The Hazelnut Brown Sugar latte tasted like a normal latte as I couldn't taste the hazelnut and brown sugar. Haven is a very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing coffee shop close to North Park/Heading to South Park. This shop carries sweet and savory pastries and a few other cafe essentials such as bagels, sandwiches, toast, and of course some delicious coffee! In this post you'll see their seasonal Lemond Almond Latte with oat milk -- I was OBSESSED. I am a huge lemon girl, and when the barista told me it taste like a lemon poppyseed muffin I was sold. It wasn't overly sweet either which was great! Next to it is their Ube Matcha which was a great balance and not too sweet either. Highly recommend! This is a pleasant coffee shop and event space by Communal Coffee. They offer a great inside and outside patio for special events. On the inside front of the building, they have a coffee kiosk. They offer baked goods, bagels, breakfast bagels, sandwiches, sandwiches, granola bowels, and avocado toast. Unfortunately, they did not have any bagels when I stopped in Saturday morning, but they did make me a delicious matcha latte with whole milk. The latte offered a touch of sweetness by the touch of honey I asked for, but at the same time, it offered that invigorating natural matcha flavor. The two young ladies working the day I visited were very nice and welcoming. I hope that next time I visit, they have the breakfast bagel sandwich I wanted to order. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in after getting an email from Communal that they were offering free gingerbread cold brew samples. I really enjoyed the free samples, the interior, and the calmness of the store. The other location is very busy, so it was a nice change. I agree with the other reviews that there are still some kinks to be worked out. The avocado toast did not come with pickled onions despite the menu indicating it did. It wasn't a huge deal, but I probably would not have ordered the toast if I had known. The maple breakfast sandwich arrived soaked with oil/maple. I sympathize with the low staff count, however hardly customers were in the shop. Will definitely return for drinks, but probably not food. read more

We love having this location within a 10 minute walk from our home. They have an enticing, delicious sounding menu. Lots of good choices for breakfast and of course a great beverages menu. I'm a latte girl and my friend orders chai. Now, one observation. The last time we came here, no bacon. This time, no bacon. None of the aiolis except Dijon which overpowered the bagel that had an egg, ham and cheese. Also. ONE employee and the place was steady with customers ordering to go. We waited over 30 minutes for our hot beverages. He had to do everything. I finally came in and retrieved our sandwiches and beverages where they were waiting by the register. Since each breakfast with tip cost over $24, perhaps have an extra employee to help the poor guy out? There were only spoons available but I found the forks and spoons in a drawer under the creamer station. I think the next time we'll just go to the original location on Texas & University because it's well supplied. read more

Stopped by Haven to read a little and sketch and when I went on a Monday - it was not that busy. It's such a cute store with seats/outlets in the inside and then more seating in the back. I guess you can rent this place out and overheard some people looking around. I got the vanilla latte and enjoyed it and thought it was overall a cute place. Very cute space in South Park (bordering North Park near the Taco Stand). A sister store of Communal Coffee so the aesthetic is pretty similar. Coffee is pretty good but the matcha was just alright There is a communal seating area inside with 2 long tables and lots of patio seating outside with outlets along the sides which is great for a sunny day. read more

I had a nice time browsing their unique home goods selection, their resident plants need some TLC though. Me , baby and my bestfriend decided to try this place out, we love trying coffee shops. Parking is zero to none. we parked a couple streets away and walked in the RAIN thinking coffee would make it all better. We entered with big smiles on our face, only to be greeted by a morgue like vibe . The barista couldn't even acknowledge our existence, but could tell us to get out the way because he had to place a coffee on counter , mind you there's no signs for pick up coffee here. After waiting 15 minutes to get acknowledged, even though we were the only people waiting, The customer service was so horrible I Didn't even feel comfortable asking what was their best drink . The barista, he was so cold and unapproachable. I ended up ordering a vanilla latte. I wish I could have left but we really wanted to give this place a try never again!! I am begging this place not to leave one poor cashier/barista to handle taking orders, making drinks, making food, and handling any customer questions or issues and anything else that could possibly arise all by themselves. I live nearby and would love to visit this place more frequently but every time I do, it takes a minimum of 20 minutes for one drink. I ordered a cortado and an everything bagel with cream cheese. The device listed tipping options starting at 15%, 18%, then 20%. First of all, I do tip, but thought it was strange how the tipping starts so high. Other coffee shops start in the 10-12% range. The barista who took my order was super grouchy, couldn't be bothered to smile. They gave me a look that seemed like they couldn't stand the person in front of me. Once the cortado was ready, I felt immediate disappointment. It was the size of a 3oz dixie cup for over $4.50. Sure cortados are small, but not that small. Then, they ran out of bagels, and the barista offered me to substitute a pastry. I chose the chocolate croissant. As delicious as it was, I was bummed they didn't offer to reimburse me the price difference for the food items. Interior design left much to be desired. Will not be back. read more

Whoever it was who worked the shift this morning around 11am, had literally THE worst attitude and gave it to complete strangers. Their unwarranted behavior was so sad to experience on a first trip! I typically don't wrote bad reviews, but my friend & I were really looking forward to enjoying a beautiful sunny Sunday, right after doing yoga in the park!! They made the whole ambiance of the cafe feel weird and unwelcoming. And not to mention, my matcha was the most paled colored and flavorless and I ordered a pretty sweet drink. Frequently out of stock of stuff on their menu; i've asked for the pumpkin spice latte three times and zero out of three times have they had the ingredients to make it. Same thing with the ginger spice latte. And we're talking first thing in the morning! Please take things off your menu if you can never make them or have ingredients stocked more consistently. They should consider a plant service some of their plants are struggling! Most of the employees are pleasant but not all. Beautiful ambiance, very bright, green and inviting. They have a vast variety of plants and flowers and candles and cards and unique nik naks for purchase. This is more a unique boutique with a meeting area. Friendly, efficient staff. Definitely similar vibe to communal coffee. Unfortunately parking is an issue. Haven is a great spot to work remotely or to enjoy a coffee with friends. I like that they stay open until 5, great for those working. The workers are all nice too. My only issue is the lack of shade in the outdoor area, it gets really bright when using a computer and just hot now that summer is coming. More umbrellas would be appreciated! read more

Stopped by with a friend yesterday. Besides the cute shop in the front, discovered they have a beautiful outdoor co-working space in the back you can pay $15/day(less after 2pm), which includes free drinks such as tea, cold brew, $5 wine, and use of their kitchen. They also cater parties/events in their lovely space. Such a great idea that I believe will catch on like their other locations. The young lady working in the front had great energy that matched the vibe of what Communal represents. A great addition to NP/SP. So glad we stopped by!
