1:27 minutes of frustration and disappointment... Restaurant half full, admittedly a pre-show crowd that came in rough the same time, but we're talking MAYBE 8-9tables max, nothing a motivated wait and kitchen staff shouldn't be able to handle. We sat for 20 minutes before the waitress even came by for a drink order. Promptly ordered drink, appetizer (HUGE mistake) and entrees - noting we were under a time constraint for a show to give them notice and an opportunity to set our expectations 30 mins later (50 mins into the meal) no appetizer, no ask for a refresh of wine, nothing... Had to literally yell EXCUSE ME to get her attention so we could cancel the App and move to the entrees and getting out of there, no joke 2 mins later the app shows up (cold). She then drops the check off before entrees show (for our convenience). Not asking if we wanted more drinks or anything else, no apology for the wait, nothing. Finally wolfed the food down and skated into the show. I get staff shortages, I get large crowds, I get being overwhelmed. We heavily tip and appreciate the new world we're in and thank those staff that earn that appreciation but NONE of these things happened tonight, terrible service by the entire staff, period. It was my first time at Commonwealth before I went to a show at The Fox. From the moment I walked in my eyes were drawn to the artistry in the walkway with a quote from the hotels namesake at the entrance to the restaurant. My partner and I were warmly greeted and immediately seated. Our waiter was welcoming and helped in navigating the menu. The food was well plated, presented, and flavorful. Scallops were meaty and perfectly seared. The elk was cooked with meticulous attention to balancing the core temperature with the seared outer. New in town!! Must try!! This is an elegant European setting restaurant with exquisite food. Had Prawn and endive for appetizer which was amazing. Enjoyed lamb and tikka masala for entree which was delicious with depth of flavors. Ended the course with their famous starry night dessert. Must try and great for date night . read more

I made a reservation for 10:30am to take my husband out for his birthday. I was really excited because I love the rooftop bar and we love trying new brunch places. When we arrived, both entrances were locked. Someone who worked for the hotel only confirmed that they were locked and he did not know why or how to help us. We could see people inside, so we stood outside and knocked. At first we were ignored until a waitress finally opened it, sharing they had locked the doors earlier because they were slammed and understaffed. She looked very annoyed as I shared that we had a reservation for 10:30 for my husband's birthday (it was now 10:40). As we walked in, there were three tables seated total and two servers. They may have been busy earlier, but definitely were not by the time we got there. There were plenty of tables but they sat us in a huge booth right next to the kitchen. Normally I wouldn't care about being sat next to the kitchen, but it was confusing since there were so many other tables that were open. Also being sat next to the kitchen meant we got to hear our server go in and complain that we were there and apologize to the cooks (again -- we had a reservation...). Between each time she came to the table, we waited about 15 minutes. She took so long to take our order and we had such a bad experience already, that we decided to leave before ordering food. I let our server know, who ended up bringing us a check for two black coffees and a mimosa for $16. Neither one of us had touched our drinks. She dropped the check and left the restaurant and never came back for our payment. I finally asked for the manager (I have never asked for one at a restaurant before in my life). The manager told us we did not have to pay for our drinks and comped a future meal for us (I appreciate the gesture and I'm sure we'll never go back). He then proceeded to vent his stress to us about how hard his job is and how he can't keep staff, inspiring no confidence in the restaurant or a future visit. read more

I understand they had staffing problems yesterday but it was really expensive for what we got. I paid $5 for their sweet potato hash and it was a sprinkle of potatoes on a plate. Average food. Little ambiance. Empty restaurant on a Saturday night. They said they had no seafood - I'm sure it's because it is too expensive for them and it would just rot. Really, all this gamey food and NO SEAFOOD? This was a terrible choice for a birthday dinner. The elk was medium rare - ok. The baked Camembert came with stale crostini and stale almonds. The salad was fair, at best. The signature "Starry Night" dessert was nothing special. The staff disappeared into a ballroom with the executive chef as we were finishing dinner. They were gone for 30 min. My husband had to find them in order for us to pay our bill. The waiter said they had to have an "emergency meeting." Right. We're staying at the hotel. I wish we would have ventured out for dinner. We will never recommend this restaurant nor will we ever go back. read more

Good food at increased prices. Ambience: Commonwealth has a nice vibe. The tables are spaced out, there's a nice variety of booths, tables, and the bar. It's not too nosiy that you have to shout. Service: Our server Madison was very kind. She brought everything out on time. She did her check back. She took our photo. Also no complaints. Food: We were there for the mother's day brunch so perhaps the chef's were struggling with dishes they had never made before. We ordered the following: CW breakfast, pancakes, beef brisket benedict, and the croque madame. The CW breakfast was standard, but good. The eggs were cooked well, the bacon was neither too crisp or limp, the sweet potato has was cooked nicely, and the sausage was delicious. Nothing fancy. Pricing wise, eggs and bacon aren't too expensive. I think it could have come with one more egg and an additional slice of bacon. 2 of each since a little stingy for $15.00. The pancakes were also very tasty, but again probably a little overpriced at the $14.00-$15.00 range. You're talking a basic batter. There was only a very small thin line of compote and then a small side dish of maple syrup. So $12.00 is probably a fair price. The only disappointment was that one half of one of the pancakes was raw. The beef brisket benedict was below average. The english muffin was standard, and the poached eggs were poached well, but the "brisket" was more like pulled pork that you would get in one of those microwave dishes at sam's club. I was looking for actual slices or chunks of some nicely baked or smoked brisket. The sauce on the brisket was also overpowering and tasted like sweet baby rays. Way too expensive for $15.00. The croque madame was another miss. The ham was chopped in weird hunks that made it difficult to eat. The gruyere inside the sandwich wasn't melted. The top wasn't browned. All in all just not a great croque madame. I've been here before for a going away party. I had a burger at the bar. I have fond memories of that burger with fries for $15.00. This brunch, especially for a special event was disappointing. The entire meal was $75.00 with tax and I just don't think it was worth it. The food ranged from okay to not great. read more

There were a ton of people working in the restaurant and walking around, but we were ignored for 20 minutes so we got up and left...which is something I never do. For a restaurant where the average entree price is $35 and average drink price is $15, the service should be superb. A friend of mine dined there the night before and she said the service was terrible as well. read more

I see some potential for brunch here but it requires some work first. Went and met a couple of friends, not drinking coffee right now so I sat down and asked for an iced tea. They don't have any tea... OK, I'll have a cranberry juice. The waitress comes to order, I order the breakfast lasagna and it looks really good, nope they're sold out today... OK, I'll have the French omelet. I see they have vegemite on the menu and I think "oh that's so cool I'll order some and get my friends to try it." Nope... sold out. By this time it's funny. My food comes out with a side of sweet potato hash, and I ask for Ketchup. You guessed it... they don't carry Ketchup at all in the restaurant. My sweet potato hash was very good, but I like Ketchup with it, dangit! What place doesn't have Ketchup? The French omelet was a tad overcooked if you're a purist like me but honestly it was perfectly tasty. My friend got the croque madame and it was very yummy, and my other friend got the pork belly eggs Benedict and the hollandaise looked a little runny but honestly had great flavor. It was just such an experience because it almost became a game that everything I asked for they had to say no to. The staff were perfectly nice and prompt. Overall I would be happy to go back... but I really hope they start carrying tea and ketchup. read more

My friend recommended Commonwealth for dinner. There was nothing impressive about this place. They're charging $11 for a glass of Clos Du Bois Chardonnay. I buy a bottle of this at my gas station for $7. The cheese plate left a lot to be desired. My curry was extremely disappointing. I took 2 bites and pushed it to the side. It tasted like peanut butter and salt. Our server was the only part I enjoyed about my one and only visit here. She was very accommodating and personable. read more

The menu was basic but not exceptional, which would have been fine...except that the food was not good. My bacon was very over cooked and the over easy egg on top of my avocado toast had a solid yolk. Even worse was the service. Said avocado toast came out before any of my table-mates meals. After nearly 10 minutes of waiting, I approached a staff person, not our nowhere to be seen server, to request that my meal be remade and that the other meals be delivered. I have never left a review before but we had reservations for 5:30 before seeing Hamilton at the Fox (party of 2). Didn't even have a server come over for a drink order for a full 30 minutes after our reservation. Just put in our full order with her when she finally came over to try and stream line the process since we were on a time line. Received two of the same entrees even though we each ordered different ones, didn't receive one of our appetizers until dessert. The food was absolutely phenomenal. I ordered the Elk and received the Duck which was actually great so I wasn't mad I hate to complain and didn't have time to actually wait for an Elk dish to come out. So basically. If you don't have anywhere to be and can roll with the punches. The food here is fantastic. It seems they may still be working out kinks with the service so if you.
