Cute little coffee shop. I got a Spicy Ginger Chai Tea Latte with soy milk, it was delicious. I also paid cash and received a DISCOUNT FOR PAYING CASH!!!! Sweet! I wish I could have stayed longer because the atmosphere was nice and the people were friendly. I also wish I didn't leave my phone in the car because I missed out on photographing their Christmas tree which was decorated with empty Mrs. Butterworth Syrup bottles!!! It was so cute. They also offer a wide variety of non-coffee drinks for those who want something else - the Arnold Palmer and the 254 are legendary examples! STAFF: ALWAYS friendly, helpful, engaging. You feel like a welcome friend, not just a customer. SPACE: Seating options inside, patio, and outdoor. A wonderful location for a relaxed first date, studying for finals, hosting a Bible study, or meeting a client. Pets are welcome in the backyard, so my girlfriend and I often bring our dog along! VENUE: Simply put, I've seen over 300 artists in dozens of venues, and this is by far my favorite place to see a show. Overhyped if you ask me. But seems like all the sorority girls can be found here. Probably the most penhellenic joint in town. High price, but refined coffee with a nice hip vibe. The concerts held here are a plus if you're into that. Watched a Switchfoot concert here once. Felt really neat because the singer walked around the crowd so many times. read more

This was the best place I've ever had coffee at. Yes, even better than Starbucks. I was on a field trip with my class and I was upset that we didn't go to Starbucks but after having my energy drink here I was completely happy. Love the cozy couches, fun music, and the fact that I can see all my friends here on any given day! The coffee is coffee - I'm not an expert, but I don't think there's much that would please a coffee snob here. It's a college coffee shop, and it plays that role well. However, the craft kombucha that they sell from Austin, Buddha's Brew, is AMAZING. They have great flavors to go along with the fizzy goodness. Tons of fun bands have played here since I've lived in Waco, including Phil Wickham, Switchfoot, Trip Lee, and David Ramirez (these are just the handful that I've gone to.) They also have movie nights in the backyard which is super fun! Now, they're opening a gourmet creamery next door with amaaaaazing flavors. I'm excited to see them out of the ice cream cart and into the cute house next door. OVERALL: fun environment with good coffee if you're just in it for the flavor and buzz. read more

We stopped in to refuel our brains on the way to San Antonio and both got the nitro coffee on tap. Now neither of us typically cares for cold coffee because it can be a bit sour and just doesn't comfort you the way a hot cup does. But for hot coffee lovers, this was about as good as cold coffee could get. read more

Update: after giving it some time, Common Grounds seems to be making real improvements to the staff dynamic when serving customers. Happy to have the local shop back on the radar! I've been a regular of Common Grounds since I moved here over a year ago. It's always been hit or miss, but today was the last straw for me to discontinue my business. As a graduate student and former Philadelphia barista, I work hard for my money and respect the artistry of correct coffee preparation and hospitable service. When someone comes into a place, they should feel welcomed and appreciated for their business, and being a student with limited funds, this is supposed to be a special treat for a hard day's(or night's) work. However, it seems like Common Grounds employees really don't get that, instead turning into a "brofest hangout", while churning out a poor product. It's not that they don't know how to prepare good coffee, only they are distracted from work with goofing off. Given the fact that the place is an institution, this is allowed, but it turns away good business. Today, I came in for a Pancho Villa, drip coffee and mexican hot chocolate. At around $5 and with 5 guys behind the counter in a nearly empty shop, I would expect it to be well prepared and to be acknowledged. Instead it was bland, lukewarm, and the milk was poorly stretched, not to mention the girl behind me was served before and had a latte(which use the same equipment to make). I immediately let the staff know it did not taste right and their impulse was only to expect me to wait for them to remake it without apology. I couldn't wait, so I had to leave having spent time and the little money I have for a product that disrespects my repeated patronage. People's time and money are important and taking advantage of that is not ok, certainly not when they could get a cheaper product elsewhere, but choose to support small business. read more

We were in town trying to see sights from Fixer Upper. We decided to try Common Grounds. Oh my goodness, did we fall in love! It was such a cute place and truly has an old school coffee house vibe. I knew my husband had fallen in love. He used to take me to coffee houses like this in Minnesota when we first dating. The coffee came and we were head over heals. My son loved the heart in his hot chocolate. I loved the coffee with steamed milk and chocolate. Mochas are often too strong for me, so this was perfect. Common Grounds was my second home for all of college, and it will always have my heart. There are tons of coffee options (and smoothies/teas/energy drinks/Italian sodas for your non-coffee loving friends). Of course the cowboy coffee or the no bull are their classic drinks - order with half the amount of secret sauce if you don't want to be overpowered with sweetness! But even their drip or a standard latte is great because the coffee itself is of high quality. There are lots of different places to sit depending on if you're studying solo, with a group, or on a coffee date, but it does often get busy. The backyard is one of my favorite places to hang out - plus, it's an excellent and usually inexpensive concert venue. CG, I love you. read more

Great Venue, Great Sound, Friendly Peoe. The photo session after Drew Holcomb was very poorly handled, especially the man that rerouted the line. Watch people almost to Lewis get pushed to the very back because of the way he handled it. Except of course, the people he told what he was going to do. Sad ending to a great concert. read more

We were visiting from California, touring Baylor. We got an iced caramel coffee crunch and loved it! We went back every day for the rest of our trip. The employees were SO sweet and friendly. Caution: do not park in the Pizza Hut lot! Even if it's empty, the local towing company tows cars away. There is parking for Common Grounds customers behind their building. The line was out the door during my visit, which is a sign that it's gonna be some killer coffee. Huge selection of drinks for the coffee lover. Even nitrogen-infused coffee and komboucha on tap. I went with the iced cowboy coffee which was DELICIOUS in a sweet way. Very smooth coffee. The decor is charming and cozy. Plenty of seating indoor and out. Recommended 100%. read more

Only iffy part: don't expect to find a place to sit most evenings when Baylor is in session. The place will inevitably be crawling with study bugs and chatty groups. My sister and I waited in line outside the Magnolia location for 10 minutes. We were trying to decide which of several trucks to try, and we decided on Common Grounds as we both enjoy trying local coffees. Sadly, we did not try the coffee, because once we got into the truck/freight car to order our coffee the 2 gentleman that we're working on April 8th (4:00 PM) that it was more important to count their tips, and then distribute them instead of waiting on my sister and I. I hope that $10 a person was worth leaving a bad taste in two customers mouth. read more

It looks like I've found another worthy pit stop between Dallas and Austin. In fact, I think this place supplants my my usual stop on exit 353. The Cowboy Coffee is amazing and the atmosphere is pretty neat. There's a warm, rustic feel to this place that you won't find anywhere else. The seating on the inside is limited, but they do have a pretty good sized patio in the back. For my next visit I'm going to try one of their mixed drinks. A bit expensive for a drip coffee or latte, but consistent with what is available in town. I rarely will drink my coffee there though because many undergrads (understandably) use it as study space and it's often too crowded for me to enjoy hanging out there. There is beautiful open space in the back and along the side of the shop, often there is live music on the weekends, although I haven't been yet. read more

Oh man, oh man, oh man. This is the place. I love coffee and can be picky... but this place really comes through. My wife and some of our friends stopped here on our way out of Waco, and back to Wichita Falls. We walked in from the front door and it felt a little old and cramped. It was a remodeled house that felt 100 years old, so it had this really cool feel to it. But the house was not big, so it felt tight. While my wife waited for her drink I went and explored. I found additional seating in the house and it kind of became a more spacious place. Then, on a whim, I opened the door to the back yard. Or, what was a back yard when it was a residential place. This is what floored me. It's outfitted for hanging out and conversing or doing homework. I wish we had a place like this in Wichita Falls. There was a stage area as well, which denoted to me that there's live music at times. I would have loved to stay there. Lastly, the coffee was top notch. If you're a coffee person, give it a go. If you're regular people, you should be here. If you're a college student and don't hang out here... well I'll just assume that you're introverted beyond repair. ;-) read more

Great coffee. I love that they serve specialties that they've dreamed up themselves. The quality of my drink was great, as was the atmosphere. Great place to kick back with a friend and relax for a few minutes. The only downsides for me were the price ($4.19 plus tax for a 16oz drink) and the fact that it came in a styrofoam cup with no lid. No mugs for drinking there? C'mon, I thought the unfortunate effects of styrofoam on the environment had been well-enough established by now. At least get something biodegradable. Plus, it's not a fancy latte art or anything, stick a lid on it for me so it stays warmer until I come get it. It wasn't particularly hot to begin with. read more
