This comic shop has a nice website and offered a comic that I have been looking for, so I ordered a…read morefew comics from them. That was on July 1st. My order was confirmed and my money taken. I requested for the order to be shipped, but it was flagged for pickup. Since I live in another state, this posed a challenge. But since I know a few people in Oak Park, I figured worse case I could ask them to pick up the books for me. By mid-July, I had not received notice that the comics were available for pickup or shipped, so I sent an email to the business to inquire about the order and waited 10 days before I received a response telling me that they had just relocated the store and that many items were placed in storage, but that he would check on the availability of the books or refund me. Another 3 weeks have gone by and I have yet to receive a response about my order nor have I received a refund. The owner just seems lazy and there seems to be no effort to take care of online customers. Long story short, buyers beware! I really want to support small businesses, but not ones that take advantage of customers by taking their money and not delivering paid for orders.

It's in downtown La Grange so you'd think that's a plus, and it is, but I find myself rather strolling through town than just a few minutes here as there really isn't much to find in the store.

I brought a buddy of mine in here today because I'm pretty sure he thought I was exaggerating about how bad this place is. I've been in here about 3-4 times before and each time was worse than the last. The first time I was in here was almost a year ago. I asked the fella working if he could order a comic book for me. He messed with the computer for a few minutes and then told me it was ordered. For the next few months, I either called or went in and asked about the status of said book. I'm still waiting for that book. This place is an absolute mess. It's dirty and there is no order for anything. Today was the final time I will step foot in this store though. There were a few guys in the back, playing magic or some other card game. The fact that they were playing is not the issue. The fact that they were loud and almost every word out of their mouths was some curse word or the "N" word is the issue. Everyone swears, I get it. But a customer was in there with his young son. I personally would've said something if my child was in there and that was going on. Anyway, a few mins after being there, about 8 or 9 books fell off the over stacked shelf. The customer jokingly said "I didn't do it" and the worker replied "it happens all the time" as he continued standing behind the counter, playing on his phone. Some other customer had to pick the books up. He obviously has no care in the world for this shop and frankly that's sad. My buddy was thumbing through the back issues that he could actually get to and started pulling out books that were ridiculously overpriced. They were damaged and disgusting. One in particular had a coffee ring on its cover. Others had destroyed covers that should've been in the nickle bin. This place needs a complete overhaul and a worker who actually takes pride in their shop.

Stopped for the first time at Gem Comics and was really happy with my experience there. Picked up…read moresome good books at decent prices so I decided to go back one more time before I left town. They were about to close in 15 min but the proprietor let me stay a little after. The cherry on top though was I didn't have enough $ to complete my purchase. I was going to leave some books behind but the clerk worked with me and gave me a great deal! I definitely will be back! I had to shout them out for that level of customer service! I'm not blowing smoke, check them out! An amazing little comic shop with big heart and passion! They definitely won my future patronage.

I was walking around the shop and then standing at the corner for 25 or so minutes while the one employee was talking with his friend (not a customer) and was completely ignored. I was one of three people that got frustrated and eventually walked out. The good news is I took my 70s and 80s rookie card collection elsewhere and walked out with $800 cash and around $400 in new purchases.
