My husband ended up purchasing the first volume of the Static Shock comic.  Keep in mind they don't come with the frame it is displayed in.  If you want one it would cost $10 but there were other options given to help protect it until we got home.  The owner was kind and made our visit worthwhile.  I can already anticipate my husband wanting to come back when we come back to Michigan City.

That's where the good times stopped. For about 8 months I had a an account there and every time I went in the clerk struggled to even find my comics. Worse, EVERY month, there were several books missing from my order. I complained after a couple months but the poor service continued. I was given a new excuse though every month which didn't help. I also ordered things out of the monthly previews which never managed to show up. When I asked about it, I never did any kind of response.

I've been in here about 3-4 times before and each time was worse than the last. The first time I was in here was almost a year ago. I asked the fella working if he could order a comic book for me. He messed with the computer for a few minutes and then told me it was ordered. For the next few months, I either called or went in and asked about the status of said book. I'm still waiting for that book. This place is an absolute mess. It's dirty and there is no order for anything. Today was the final time I will step foot in this store though. There were a few guys in the back, playing magic or some other card game. The fact that they were playing is not the issue. The fact that they were loud and almost every word out of their mouths was some curse word or the "N" word is the issue. Everyone swears, I get it. But a customer was in there with his young son. I personally would've said something if my child was in there and that was going on. Anyway, a few mins after being there, about 8 or 9 books fell off the over stacked shelf. The customer jokingly said "I didn't do it" and the worker replied "it happens all the time" as he continued standing behind the counter, playing on his phone. Some other customer had to pick the books up. He obviously has no care in the world for this shop and frankly that's sad. My buddy was thumbing through the back issues that he could actually get to and started pulling out books that were ridiculously overpriced. They were damaged and disgusting. One in particular had a coffee ring on its cover. Others had destroyed covers that should've been in the nickle bin. This place needs a complete overhaul and a worker who actually takes pride in their shop.

These guys had prints that I haven't been able to locate at other shops, and everything was extremely well organized. Books were in great condition, and the staff were so kind and helpful. Very much a "reader's" comic shop, but they have tables set up for your D&D game or Magic or really whatever your fancy is. Best of all, the prices are fair, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better value in the area. I'll definitely be back. I would die for more time to dig through their back issues.

First, their store credit policy makes no sense: you can't use it on "premium" items, which defeats the purpose of having store credit at all. On top of that, when I sold them some premium Magic: The Gathering cards, the prices I was given were for the wrong versions. Because I had my three kids with me at the time, I didn't notice until later, but it felt dishonest and not worth the argument. What bothered me most, though, was how they treated me as a newer customer. I stood waiting for about 15 minutes with my kids while staff ignored me to casually chat and eat with tournament patrons who weren't even doing business at the time. They had recognized me, but still dismissed me while I was clearly trying to complete a transaction. It made me feel like my time -- and my business -- weren't valued. Most of the staff were nice, but the older bald gentleman was rude and dismissive, which really stood out. Between the poor credit rules, the card pricing issue, and the way I was treated as a customer, I can't recommend Thunder Comics. If they want to encourage more sales and playtime in their store, they should focus more on being fair, welcoming, and attentive -- especially to new customers
