My husband ended up purchasing the first volume of the Static Shock comic.  Keep in mind they don't come with the frame it is displayed in.  If you want one it would cost $10 but there were other options given to help protect it until we got home.  The owner was kind and made our visit worthwhile.  I can already anticipate my husband wanting to come back when we come back to Michigan City.

The owner Alex is great and the environment is very inviting. Whether you are into comics or trading card games Alex has a lot of knowledge and gives great recommendations. I saw him helping a mom with her young son pick out his first ever comic. I could tell that the mom was a little out of her league in a comic bookstore but Alex made sure to help make both the mom and son feel welcomed and invited. He asked great questions to see where their interests were and gave great recommendations for them. Just to see the relief on the mother's face and the excitement in the kids eyes brought me back to how we all got into these hobbies. I brought a buddy of mine in here today because I'm pretty sure he thought I was exaggerating about how bad this place is. I've been in here about 3-4 times before and each time was worse than the last. The first time I was in here was almost a year ago. I asked the fella working if he could order a comic book for me. He messed with the computer for a few minutes and then told me it was ordered. For the next few months, I either called or went in and asked about the status of said book. I'm still waiting for that book. This place is an absolute mess. It's dirty and there is no order for anything. Today was the final time I will step foot in this store though. There were a few guys in the back, playing magic or some other card game. The fact that they were playing is not the issue. The fact that they were loud and almost every word out of their mouths was some curse word or the "N" word is the issue. Everyone swears, I get it. But a customer was in there with his young son. I personally would've said something if my child was in there and that was going on. Anyway, a few mins after being there, about 8 or 9 books fell off the over stacked shelf. The customer jokingly said "I didn't do it" and the worker replied "it happens all the time" as he continued standing behind the counter, playing on his phone. Some other customer had to pick the books up. He obviously has no care in the world for this shop and frankly that's sad. My buddy was thumbing through the back issues that he could actually get to and started pulling out books that were ridiculously overpriced. They were damaged and disgusting. One in particular had a coffee ring on its cover. Others had destroyed covers that should've been in the nickle bin. This place needs a complete overhaul and a worker who actually takes pride in their shop.

Very much a "reader's" comic shop, but they have tables set up for your D&D game or Magic or really whatever your fancy is. First, their store credit policy makes no sense: you can't use it on "premium" items, which defeats the purpose of having store credit at all. On top of that, when I sold them some premium Magic: The Gathering cards, the prices I was given were for the wrong versions. Because I had my three kids with me at the time, I didn't notice until later, but it felt dishonest and not worth the argument. What bothered me most, though, was how they treated me as a newer customer. I stood waiting for about 15 minutes with my kids while staff ignored me to casually chat and eat with tournament patrons who weren't even doing business at the time. They had recognized me, but still dismissed me while I was clearly trying to complete a transaction. It made me feel like my time -- and my business -- weren't valued. Most of the staff were nice, but the older bald gentleman was rude and dismissive, which really stood out. Between the poor credit rules, the card pricing issue, and the way I was treated as a customer, I can't recommend Thunder Comics. If they want to encourage more sales and playtime in their store, they should focus more on being fair, welcoming, and attentive -- especially to new customers

You could spend days looking through their quarter boxes, they have high-end stuff to peruse, or you could find a hobby box to rip. No shortage of options for any sports card collector. It's also a very welcoming environment, and you can understand why he's been in business for over 4 decades. Incredibly helpful owner, who makes sure you're finding what you want, and is happy to chat with you as you're poking around. The prices are also very reasonable. He has 800-card boxes for casual collectors... and the hobby/blaster boxes aren't marked up to a crazy price, like I see at some card stores. It's the type of place where you WANT to give your business, and I'll be making repeat trips when I'm going through the area.

LOTS of boxes of cards to pick through. Great prices. This isn't a bougie new school PSA graded shop. This is a bring a coffee, spend an hour finding little gems to complete your collection type shop. Highly recommend for true card hawks.
