Bug and dirt stayed there even after they cleaned

Booked a suite. Stayed here a couple of years ago and it was nicer. Checkin was fine but she never asked if we were Choice members so didn't get the extra points or freebies. There used to be a hot tub, now it's filled in. Pool room is hot and no ac, we had to prop up the exit door for circulation. The room stunk. Like those weird cleaners when there's pet odors. My husband thought there was some sort of water issue and it was the carpets that stunk. There was a stain on the bathroom door that made it look like the place had flooded at some point. Based on other reviewers pics--I'm guessing it did. If you have issues with smells, run! I'm pretty sure my coughing and drainage at night was from mold or something in that room. There was dirt and a dead bug in bathroom. Dust and dirt in bathroom cubbies. Sticky spot on carpet. Side light had no light bulb. The fabric thing they lay across the end of the bed had a large spot that was hardened by something that had spilled on it. It was put back on the bed when they "cleaned". We had 2 adults and two kids checking into a king with couch bed. The room had 5 small pillows and no bedding for the couch. We unrolled it to find dirt and crumbs on the bed and a dirty looking bed. Fridge had a freezer that was half frozen over. They "clean" every third day. This means fresh towels, take trash and make bed. The bugs and dirt stay. That "full hot breakfast" is a waffle maker but no batter. Coffee, tea, frozen breakfast sandwiches, crappy quality muffins and nutragrain bars. Extremely disappointing. Next trip to the area we'll find a cleaner hotel that doesn't stink.

Caked on filth! A sign of quality!!

Roaches, mold, rust, chipped paint, beds that sink right in the middle, and mediocre staff can all be yours for over $200 a night! Ripoff!! Disgusting rooms! Filthy as could be. I felt guilty making my 5 year old sleep in there. Just caked on filth everywhere so it wasn't just a one time cleaning issue. This is how that place was meant to be. It's one of those super old hotels that they've slapped a coat of paint over the filth and dilapidated structure rather than rip it out and do a real remodel. As soon as you walk in you can literally smell the dankness of the place and you already know you've stepped in it. If you have any self respect, find somewhere else to stay at all costs.

    Black mold under leaky sink

We checked in and right away noticed that our room had not been cleaned. We went to the front desk to ask for the manager but they said that the manager was not in and said the next day they would be in at some point. The next day I asked for a manager again they said that the manager has not been in yet and does not know when the manager will be there but would send the manager to our room as soon as they got there. A manager never contacted us nor did anyone else. Staff there are not friendly at all and never once greeted us or apologized for anything. We made the best of it for our children but will never stay there again!

This place is absolutely disgusting!! They were installing new carpet when we got there so we decided to go out to eat and come in later. We came in after dark and watched tv for about an hour and went to bed. We got up in the morning and I was in the bathroom with the door open. I noticed a bug on the wall. With further investigation I realized it was a roach. My husband smashed it onto the wall. I decided I was getting a shower and leaving. I wasn't eating breakfast there. The shower ceiling and wall was covered with mold. I called my husband in to show him the mold when he told me he had just killed a baby roach.

After a long exhausting day of work and travel, I was really looking forward to getting to my room to rest. Walking into the hotel, I noticed trash on the ground in the entry way which is never a good sign. The hotel physically appeared to be a newer updated hotel. We booked for two nights through Priceline and thought we were getting a great deal. Well, we enter the lobby to check in and there is no one behind the desk, only a hand written note saying they'll be back. Once we finally check in after waiting several minutes for someone to return, we enter our room. The room smelled musty which was surprising because the hotel looked newer. I ignore it and get ready for bed. Again I'm exhaust bed and finally lay down... (my husband is already asleep) I notice that I smell a faint scent of urine. Now I'm hoping and telling myself it's in my head and try to go to sleep. I wake up in the morning exhausted and decide to just get ready and start my day. I go to take a shower and notice there is mildew and mold built up in the cracks and the bottom of the tub is filthy. I cringe but get in to shower, the water drains very slow and now I'm standing in a filthy tub with standing water. As I'm getting ready, I noticed there was just plain filth and grime pooled under the sink and around the cracks of the bathroom door. I call the front desk to cancel my second night and they tell me Because I booked through Priceline they wouldn't refund the money for the unused portion. As I'm on the phone I notice the phone had filth built up in all the cracks. There was also a ball of black hair in my sheets which certainly did not belong to my husband nor I. By the way, the phone is on the nightstand next to the bed and I noticed the urine smell was back... hmm definitely not in my head! Needless to say the clerk at the front desk was unapologetic and unsympathetic and told me if I wasn't happy I should just leave and hung up on me. I did just that but I warn you do not stay here if you care about a clean place to sleep!

I can't quite bring myself to give more than 3 stars to this hotel. There are several PROs to this facility, but also several CONs. So 3 stars is all I can assess. PROs: - Military discount made this one of the best value in New Bern. The selection is not high in this little costal town and from what I saw online this seemed the best deal at $98 a night. - Newly remodeled this hotel looks like it belongs into the 21st century and has a nice modern look an feel - Private lot, outside of town. Area has tons of restaurants options accessible by walking (mostly chains). - Hotel has an indoor pool and small gym and even a convention room. - Hotel offers breakfast with MANY items to select from both hot and cold. The young lady that works breakfast is very nice, friendly and a hard worker. - The beds and bed linens were super comfortable (although there were some stains on the comforter. Sheets were clean though). - Many towels were provided in the room, so the fact that they only change linens for stays longer than 3 days was not a deterrent. CONs: - Room cleanliness left to be desired. I walked barefooted on the carpet and my feet got covered in sand. The toilet was not properly scrubbed and neither was the sink overflow. This is a large enough hole that it's easy to reach for cleaning so that should not be a problem. - AC units don't work properly making the room stuffy and smelling stale even though the units are on all day. - Mold is a big issue in this facility. The bathroom do not have fans that automatically turn on when the lights are on, so I suppose the steam from showering is the culprit for all the mold on the ceiling and rust on the light fixture. It was a bit scary to see what conditions this hotel is in after being renovated only recently. - Moss is covering the outside of the window panes making it nearly impossible to look outside one's window. Time to call a window cleaning crew. - Hotel is in a bit of disrepair. Our remote did not work, so we had to manually use our TV for our stay. The volume would not work at all so we were stuck with the previous visitor's settings for that as well. The sink in the bathroom was cracked and the pool/spa area was not as fresh and clean as one would hope for. Also the hot tub was so hot that one could not sit in it for longer than 5 minutes straight. The pool's temperature was on the cold side, so switching from one to the other felt a bit like playing Norwegian sauna. - Staff friendliness is a total hit or miss here. Some personnel is as friendly as could be, smiles, friendly attitude and willingness to really help. Others are frowning all the time, short and seem to resent your stay. Not sure what that is all about. All in all, compared to other hotels in the area, I still feel like it's a good value for the cost but I wished there was more pride of ownership in this facility as it could definitely be a great place!

This is going to be a very mixed review. The location is in a very strange place. You have to drive through a Waffle House parking lot to get to it. However, it is remodeled on the outside and looks nice. They are remodeling right now so it is hard to give a legitimate review. So, I will start with my room. I had a king suite with hot tub. I was so impressed! The pricing was so reasonable!! The bed was fantastic, the hot tub was the best thing since sliced bread. They also have nighttime teas and morning teas in the room. They give you two free bottled waters In the room and two tv's. I didn't like that is was Direct tv because it wasn't very user friendly. The room was very clean. Customer service was average. Breakfast was average. There were a lot of outlets to use and restaurants near by. Downtown New Bern is very close. Personally, I think the room I had (Room 201) could not be beat for the price. They DID start remodeling early in the morning and it was SO annoying. In the lobby I could barely hear. But, I guess that is the price you pay for quality.

Please improve your fire alarm system to properly wake all guests, practice drills have a plan, communication amongst employees about emergency resposes, update protcol procedures for emergencies. Awakened at ~7ish am on a Saturday morning after a night of partinging I heard the faint fire alarms sounding in the hallway outside my door. I woke up my friend, get dressed, let's go, grabbed my purse at the ready (because I'm a Boy Scout), and made our way down the stairs to the lobby. I was asked by a fellow hotel guest mingling near fresh air why they couldn't just turn off the alarm because burnt toast is no emergency. The alarms were turned off by staff. I walked out the front doors to hear fire trucks approaching. I think my response to the drill was record time. The smell and sight of smoke was gagging. I walked back in the building ahead of fire crews just to check out our service personel (hey I'm old and female). Not funny, but a possibly serious siruation. I took a picture as the response team set up fans to blow outside air into the hotel lobby. My thoughts were open a back enterance and blow the air from the lobby out the front door creating a breeze to evacuate the smoky air. But hey... my dreams are not reality. The firemen finished their job quickly and logged out a book at the managers desk. My friend asked me how I knew what to do so quickly, alert level, and rradiness I had acted. My response... well you can never be complacent. Safety first. Actually, I have had this happen in a variety of hotels. However, Sheraton handled it best. Lights and sound blared in the rooms waking me very starled and grabbing my friend's hand in pitch darkness of the night. We made it down stairs in our jammies and robes, the fire department signalled the all clear and over a loud speaker through the hotel came management stating "All Clear". My dream left me thinking Hampton never gave the all clear, nor did they phone call my room to state the "All Clear". My dream prompted terror and bewilderment and questioned my wanting to ever stay in a Hilton property. The level of safety seemed less than my own home's capabilities. My friend would have kept sleeping through the Hampton alarms. This disturbed me greatly.

There is not adequate parking because they have taken up most of the lot with storage containers and heavy machinery (although the VIP parking spaces are not blocked, just not available for you unless you're whatever status). There is no place to fill up a water bottle because they were installing the new fountain (see the exposed wiring in the picture). The fitness center is covered with construction materials, so there's no way to use that. If you had hoped to use the conference room, that's also filled with construction materials, but don't worry, they didn't put a "Do Not Enter" sign, so come on in I guess. There was no one at the front desk for most of the day, which left one of our group waiting for over 15 minutes to check in. Breakfast starts at 6, but the day we left (a Sunday) there was no coffee. I waiting until 6:20 before giving up on that. There is coffee in the room (enough for one person, not two), and they give you a bottle of water when you check in. Look, I understand that the place wants to stay open while doing renovations. Can't let the stockholders take a loss, amirite? But for the SUBSTANTIAL cost of the room, one would expect the amenities that are advertised to be available, or at least to not have to park at the hotel next door and walk across the grass. Six thumbs down.

I arrived at the hotel earlier than planned, after a change in my Jones County itinerary. There was a wait and some issues with the new Marriott software, but the staff was as friendly as could be. Even after I kept going back to the desk with more questions. I booked a room with a balcony, knowing that I would likely get a side view, not the riverview. But this turned out to be a positive, too. I got to watch the moon rise. The sunrise and sunsets are what people usually watch, but watching the full moon was wonderful and beautiful. Fortunately my internet search found the Zieglar, with rates at least $20/night less than the New Bern chains and comparable with Havelock rates. I stayed in the 1940.s themed room. Frank Sinatra photos and album covers are featured on the walls, along with other 1940's stars from radio, movies, and sports. Other rooms have as themes the 1950's, 1960's, Elvis & Marilyn Monroe, and even a Goth inspired room. Here's was impressed me. The room had all of the modern conveniences (hdtv, microwave, small refrigerator) but also included a DVD player with several movies in the room, and about eight books. I opened the drawer of the writing table and found a 1940's edition of LIFE magazine. The bed was comfortable with sheets having a colorful design - not your typical white hotel sheets. The towels and other linens were a higher quality than what you would find at most hotels. The heat/AC unit was a newer remote control design, and along with the ceiling fan kept the room comfortable on hot humid summer days. If I were looking for a comfortable quiet place where I want to indulge in a good book or two for a few days I would definitely suggest the Ziegler. Don't think it would be a good choice for a family on vacation on the business person needing a place for business meetings, But - if you want a quiet place that isn't your run of the mill lodging room and at a reasonable price - give 'em a try!

There's no closet per se, but there's a rack with plenty of hangers and shelving above, plus drawers in the bedroom for storage. I paid the small extra amount to book one of the rooms with a balcony. I would recommend going that route, as the balcony rooms are on the side of the building away from Front St. and facing toward the river and the sunset view. The balconies themselves are large, with a side table and two chairs that are comfortable for enjoying the view. Location is prime, and just about anything you're here to do will be within walking distance. Tryon Palace is just a few blocks down, and the main shopping and dining streets are even closer. The riverfront is just across a parking lot. There is on-site parking at The Harvey, with one space for each room. It's easy to access, and directly adjacent to the building. There are no elevators or bell staff to assist with bags, so there are considerable stairs involved unless you're on the ground floor. (There are three floors of guest accommodations.) Everything here is fresh and new and in impeccable shape, and there are many historic photographs the Harvey building and the New Bern area in the hallways and on the landings, but from the inside you would never guess the structure is well over 200 years old. My only frustration was with the TV, which is one of those things where I can never find "normal" channels -- for instance, I could not locate the Monday Night Football game on it. But maybe you're better with technology than I am. Otherwise, this was a terrific option and I wouldn't really consider anywhere else if returning to New Bern.

FYI, a Queen is larger than a Standard. Oh yeah, no shower gel either. See photo. Luckily, I brought soap with me. Nevertheless, housekeepers shouldn't be overlooking the obvious. Hard to overlook an empty bottle. Next, I was informed that Candlewood Suites doesn't offer breakfast, which is fine since the room had a stovetop. Also, I thought I saw a sign that read, NO PETS. Well, I stayed on the second floor, and some lady across from me had one Weimaraner and a spotted German Shorthaired Pointer. Definitely, not small or medium size dogs, and I guess she snuck them into the hotel, which probably isn't difficult since they only have one person on staff at the front desk. Since I am deaf, I only noticed them because they were jumping on her as soon as she opened the door to her room. I cannot tell you if they barked all night or not. Sorry, I didn't get a photo of the dogs, but most hotels will place anyone with a dog on the first floor. Finally, as I loaded up my vehicle at 3 AM, there was no clerk in view. I made three trips to the room to make sure I wasn't leaving anything behind. The bathroom is older but clean. The bed was comfortable and the pillows are nice. The patio furniture on the screened patio was covered in pollen but thats just this time of year in NC. We travel alot and I would most definately write a negative review if this place was as bad as I read about, but we enjoyed our stay and I would most definately come back.

Nice and quiet. Good place to rejuvenate from the stress of the China plandemic. Five stars…read more [[My rant: At 3pm we went to the community center to see the pool, etc, and no one standing outside waiting to get in was wearing face diaper, which was a good thing IMHO. Note, we just wanted to walk thru the community center at 3pm, which was when they open now due to the plandemic, and the lady running it opened it at 3pm exactly, and started taking names and phone numbers on her list for people to enter. After she took one name down, she announced the procedure is to take one name next from someone that calls in, to be added to the list, and then someone from us standing outside (about 15 people). I said, we just want to walk though and she said we are not getting in unless we are on the list. I said to my wife, why are we standing here, let's go.]] Still a great place to decompress if you don't have any need to swim or use the community center. We stayed in the Sandcastle Village II, with a 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath condo with a nice quiet view on one of the pond. 4 nights here. Will be back but after the China virus stupidity is over. I know it's not Wyndham's fault, and we appreciate the quiet and clean place to stay. Awesome Jacuzzi tub!!!
