I arrived into New Bern, NC at 10am and, after dealing with my bags not arriving to New Bern with me, I checked in at noon. They were really accommodating, and checked me in immediately. Lots of smiles and good vibes from the four people I interacted with there all weekend: Kim was one. The room was spacious enough. I got a River facing King with a balcony and sofa chair. Standard decoration for hotels. I've stated at a lot of large hotels. They tend to be in their own decor bubble, unless the chain goes out of their way to break the cycle. Something comforting about that though, like coming back to something familiar no matter where you are on the planet. The bed was very comfortable. I slept extremely well. It rained all weekend mostly, so I didn't get to enjoy the backyard this go around. When it stopped raining on Sunday, I got a bit of drumming in on the gazebo jutting out on the river. That was very cool. Others seemed to take the opportunity afforded by the sunshine to enjoy the deck and the pool. The location of the hotel is great. Most of the larger places to stay in New Bern are located around the perimeter of town along the water. The only other options are the B&B's within town, but the amenities are quite different. The hotel doesn't have a "bar", but their is a cafe downstairs open during "business hours": food, coffees, alcohol, dessert. They also provide a minibar for snacks and drinks around the clock.

Not a, "I hope your travels went well", not "glad you selected us" not, "welcome to our Courtyard". More customer service training required. It happens that the room was ready. Unfortunately, this courtyard does not recognize Marriott Bonvoy status as typically you are thanked for being a member, gifted with a few bottles of water and an offer for a late checkout. None of this occurred. Yes, they did have my Marriott number as I reserved through my app. We stayed in room 319 where the tub would not drain well during a shower leaving about 3 inches of water when finished. Checked multiple times the drain was pulled open and it was. The housekeep failed to leave regular coffee in the room and we only had decaf. When I went to the desk to get a few bags in the morning the clerk was very kind and offered other items as well. The AC in the room was fantastic and the room was clean. The lobby area was also clean and had a glass of wine at the bar after returning from dinner and the bartender was also very kind. Location is great!

I knew nothing at check in, but Sam was a pleasure and so helpful checking us in at a rather late hour at night. My first thought entering the room was that it was beautiful. From the thoughtful reading lights in the headboard, to the room fridge that actually got cold, I was pretty happy. One only miss was the lack of a fan in the bathroom. Let's just say, 3 people, one bathroom, you kind of want a fan. We had reservations for 4 nights. On the first morning, our daughter woke up with swollen tonsils. We went to all 4 local urgent care locations and we're turned away cause we didn't have an appointment. Ultimately we chose to go home to ensure our daughter's health (she did indeed have strep throat) and the hotel did not penalize us for leaving early. They showed amazing care and concern for our families health and welll being. It's located in amazing location, on the water front. Easy walk to downtown for breakfast, and the waterfront walk is perfect for stretching your legs. It is a pet friendly business. Which is good and bad. For my fellow pet lovers, its wonderful to travel with your best friends. But there was an altercation between two dogs in the lobby that echoed through the property. Please be good pet parents! In the midst of letting them know to change the room name from mine to hers, the hotel manager decided to cancel the reservation. I then called Orbitz, who confirmed that the room was cancelled. Orbitz was told they would be closing the hotel until after the hurricane as the hotel was in the path of it (which, unless it changes course is a lie). It did not ring true to me, so I called the main reservation line for the chain. In accounting to the rep what had occurred, the rep was in the process of reserving a room for me (the hotel still had rooms and was still open). The rep decided to call the hotel directly to verify the acceptance of the reservation and the rep was told that yes, they are cancelling all third party reservations (price gauging on the cheaper rates) because they wanted folks to call the hotel directly in order to book (at a higher rate) and because the manager had implemented a NO REFUND policy because (and I quote) "We're not giving out refunds if we lose power". People are fleeing for their lives and quite honestly, I don't think anyone would care about loss of power as long as they were safe. That is what I told the phone rep....and then I asked, well, don't they have a generator? Well, evidently they have a small generator that is only big enough to supply power to the manager's space. First, its a hotel in eastern North Carolina. There are hurricanes often.....you aren't better prepared than that? Second, you literally cancelled all third party hotel rooms......BREACH OF CONTRACT.... and lastly, you want people to only book with you for the higher room rates.....PRICE GOUGING. You're disgusting and once I find out what agency to report your gouging to in NC, it will be carried out.

They may not have the typical amenities of a 5 star hotel, but they do check all of the necessary boxes. This hotel is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained and It offers exceptional customer service. The rooms are spacious, well-equipped, and provide a range of thoughtful amenities like quality bedding, pillows, and towels, and a coffee maker. Although oriental NC is small and a town that is all about the water, it is not the most walkable town in NC, which is why location is key. Not only is this hotel closer to everything that matters, they have the best view right off the water than any other hotel in town. This is the most comfortable stay in town. Cheers!

I loved having morning coffee out there and again in late evening. They have a recreational center with a large variety of things to do. There is an indoor and outdoor pool. We had a great time there. It is situated in a great spot to visit New Bern, historical New Bern, and going to the coast. Great location. We loved the historical district of New Bern. Tryon Palace, the trolley tour. The great restaurants. I will definitely book there again.

Home to Mother Earth Brewery and The Chef and the Farmer, Kinston is a growing town with a bright future ahead! I'll be honest, lodging is not something Kinston has much of. Outside of a pretty ritzy boutique hotel, there isn't much else. When we called to make reservations at aforementioned boutique hotel, we were so bummed to find it was booked. However, we were informed that the hotel owners had partnered with Mother Earth Brewery to renovate an old hotel in the area within walking distance of the brewery and it would be open for business April 2017. As if that wasn't exciting enough, it would be 1970s themed! Shut up and take my money! Upon arrival, you may be alarmed to find that the room doors open to the outside. DONT PANIC! Most of the rooms are not accessible from the outside. You have to enter from the interior perimeter of the building. The outside doors have been sealed shut but we're left to maintain the original charm of the building. For additional security, there are gates keeping unwanted guests on the exterior perimeter of the motel. You must use your room key to get through the gate. They do have a few rooms on the first floor, outside corners, that do open into the parking lot. They also have a few rooms that are pet friendly! The room is decorated in bright orange, red, and green true to 70s fashion. It was spotless upon arrival and smelled clean. We opted for the larger room with a living area. They did a great job with the 70s decor. True to the 70s but not gaudy or silly. The king size bed is a little firm, but I indeed slept like a baby. Our room also has painted pictures of local landmarks. So far so good in this groovy hotel!

And yet, of all the places I have been, few can match the charm and service of this wonderful couple and this establishment. "Charming coastal" is indeed accurate as another reviewer noted, but so is kind and engaging. At least, that is how I found the host Kim, who is the hostess during your stay. The rooms are modest in size but well appointed and comfy with a wonderful balcony to enjoy a morning coffee and watch the city wake up. The highlight of each morning was the breakfast together. The breakfast is served at 9 sharp and is served with the other guests. It makes for not only a delicious breakfast, but Kim uses it as an opportunity to help direct, guide, and suggest places nearby that meet your interests. This is great as it means you get insider tips and ways to optimize your stay by taking the guesswork out--particularly when you have a small window for activities (we were only there for a few days). In the evenings, Kim hosts a happy hour which includes helping guests secure reservations and dinner plans settled before you go. This is not just a recommendation by Kim--she actively calls and secures the spots and confirms them with you. True concierge service! Setting aside the wonderful host and the rooms, the location is superb. We were there over the weekend, and there is a delightful Saturday market literally ACROSS the street filled with vendors of all varieties. Warming: it is easy to spend. ;) The entirety of the downtown is merely a block away with shops, restaurants, and bars galore along with the cruises, sports fishing, and recreation just a short walk down the road. Bottom line: I adored this place and have already recommended it to friends and family here in Durham (where we live) and beyond. If you can swing it (it is worth every penny) and want to give yourself or your partner a weekend to remember, I cannot more strongly recommend the Inn on Turner.
