This place has so much character and it is so super cute. First of all I would like to say that the owners are so sweet. They were putting up the Christmas decorations and everything looked so festive and lovely. The room we were in was warm and cozy and it had that old fashioned charm. The house itself was built in 1882. It is close to downtown so park your car and go for a nice stroll. The owners did a wonderful job with the inside and the outside. I definitely would stay here again. The food was delicious and they were so hospitable. I am going to tell everyone about our stay. If you're lucky you'll see some nice shiny pennies lying around.

We had a wonderful stay. New Bern is the cutest little town. The location is prefect. We walked everywhere we went. Breakfast was yummy. Kathy and all the staff were wonderful and made us feel right at home. My only complaint would be the light shining through the windows at night, but I would definitely stay here again.

We just got back from a wonderful stay at The Aerie! I can't say enough good things. Beautiful property and wonderful service. The breakfast is also 10/10! If you're looking for a charming place to stay to give you the full New Bern vibe-this would be it!

Beautifully decorated with so many nice touches for their guests such as water and snacks, and 5:00 wine. The rooms are beautiful and the bed was divine. We liked that this B and B wasn't right beside all the others. It's close to downtown and the breweries.

King size bed that's so comfortable

Just had a wonderful one night stay in the Hidden suite. It has its own private entrance off the back of the Inn. The room was so quiet and we felt like the only guests. There are a lot of stairs to climb up, so be aware. The suite was beautiful and tastefully decorated. The king sized bed was very comfortable and the linens were like butter! We overslept and missed breakfast, but a good nights sleep was well worth it. Lots of outdoor areas to unwind. Will definitely stay here again.

I would stay here every night if I could. I had the King George Suite and I loved every detail of the room. The mixture between modern amenities and Victorian window treatments and decor were in perfect harmony. The owners were lovely! I spent a good amount of time speaking with Beth and she is amazing! Her husband can sure cook, too! My breakfast was 5 star! The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. I think it was the perfect pillows and the bedding they chose. Complete luxury. The bathroom in this particular suite was beautiful. The stain glass window about the tub was so relaxing and beautiful. I highly recommend this place! This has been my favorite bed and breakfast ever. Also, the social hour wine and cheese were the perfect touch

Happy to have gotten a room at The Aerie - and with our dog Rosa (they take pets!). As soon as you arrive, you're welcomed by the charm of this historic 1880 home with its thick wood moldings and original glass windows. Our bed was so luxurious, we overslept almost every morning. The service was perfect and the breakfast was a wonderful way to start the day. The owners, John and Beth, had recently updated the dining and the living rooms - and they're beautiful. My husband and I enjoyed talking with other guests and sitting around the firepit in the evening. We've never been to New Bern before but loved our morning walks around the waterfront, dinners at The Chelsea, Cypress Hall and Persimmons (all delish), the lovely shops - and the historical walking tour. Excited to return in the fall!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights while he had some business to attend in New Bern. We stayed in the Carolina Room on the first floor - it is flled with beautiful antiques and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever experienced! Marty and Michael are perfect hosts, and the breakfasts are scrumptious! Will definitely stay here again!

Champagne delivered to our room!

This was our first experience with a bed and breakfast. Would recommend again and again! We loved the old world charm and decor of the home. The staff was amazing and went above and beyond to make our experience one of a kind. Can't wait to go back!

What a lovely experience! My husband and I were looking for a quick getaway with the only parameters being, someplace we had never been before and in the great state of North Carolina. After a brief internet search, we found The Aerie Bed and Breakfast in New Bern, NC. If you've not been to New Bern, NC, or like us, hadn't even realized it existed, you're in for a treat! The town is small enough you can park the car and enjoy brief walks to almost any venue. There are multiple delicious restaurants and live music bars around the quaint town center. There are also shops offering local artwork, clothing boutiques and, of course, ice creams and handmade fudge. The jewel in the crown for us, however, was our stay at The Aerie. We enjoyed the private room with eleven foot ceilings and updated bathroom. It was comfortable and quiet. They offered complimentary bottles of water, carbonated drinks, coffee and teas as well as delicious, freshly made baked goods. (These were NOT from a box...think mom's cookies.) The proprietors, Dina and Keith, were terrific hosts. If you are people/people like we are, the wine and cheese social at 5:00 every afternoon is a fun way to meet others looking for an unique and non-traditional overnight experience. We met people we felt we'd known forever. If you prefer solitude, The Aerie was large enough with comfortable private areas that you did not have to be social if you'd prefer. The grounds were beautiful with plants and seating areas tended to by Keith himself. The venue also offers an event center and additional rooms all conveniently located in the same block. My husband and I highly recommend The Aerie for your next quick getaway. We will surely be back.

Abilena Mansion

(5 reviews)

I recently stayed at the Abilena Mansion for a friend's wedding and appreciated how inclusive the…read moreproperty is. The mansion sleeps 14 people with 7 queen beds, but we were able to accommodate more by using the spacious couch in one of the bedrooms and sleeping 3 to a bed another night. It was so nice to have the entire wedding party stay in one place. We had the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception on property, and there was enough lawn parking for all guests. The ceremony space is outside overlooking a peaceful lake that beautifully compliments the sunset. We used the dock for wedding party photos and as a place to hang out and chat on our fist night (tip: bring bug spray). The reception area is also outside but completely covered and with optional side shading. Both areas are the perfect size for small-to-medium size weddings. A big con, should it affect you and your guests: the mansion and grounds are not wheelchair accessible. There are quite a number of steps to get to the ceremony area with no alternative route. Guests who cannot walk or climb steps may not be able to view the ceremony next to everyone else. I also did not notice a ramp leading inside the mansion. We joked that the kitchen has everything you don't need. They have like 3 cheese graters and 50 wine glasses, but no Pam, scissors, or a wine/beer bottle opener. The owners probably don't stock the place with these essential items because guests could easily steal them, so please, for your own good: BRING A WINE BOTTLE OPENER. The kitchen has two refrigerators--enough room to hold 5 bags of ice in each freezer. The mansion also has a washer and dryer and plenty of clean towels. And a piano! And a pool. And tons of room to work on wedding decor projects. Basically this place has almost everything you could want in a wedding location. The owners are available via phone at almost any time and are quick to reply. The husband and wife duo visited every day to clean up, check-in, and help with ceremony set-up. My biggest complaint with the Abilena Mansion is the wi-fi. It worked for about 30 minutes when I first connected and then died for the rest of my multi-day stay. No one's phone could successfully connect to the wi-fi even though it appeared available. This is a huge downside for a place that's supposed to service large groups of people who want to stream music, look up information, post on social media, and activate other celebration-related things.

We just attended a Wedding here and it was beautiful. The backdrop of the water for the ceremony…read morewas perfect. It was about 98 or so degrees out but with all of the shade and the breeze it was tolerable. We ate outdoors under a kind of covered porch with great views of the water and sunset. Parking was easy and they had a golf cart shuttle service to and from the ceremony site. We walked through the house (the bridal portraits we in one of the side rooms) it was a charming older home with early 1900s finishings. To get 5 stars, we would need it to be a bit easier to navigate, there were a lot of large stairs that were hard for those wearing heels. I don't know how much control over the event the owners have but it was a bit confusing knowing where to go and when, maybe bigger signage would help. Overall it was a lovely outdoor venue.
