This was the closest thing open and after a bit of research on Oriental, I just decided to check out the town and the Croaker Festival instead of using it as a home base for Beaufort (about an hour or so away). The Captain's Quarters was such a beautiful place to stay. I was apprehensive because their website is old and the information wasn't quite the same as it was on airbnb.com. I got ahold of the manager, Linda, and that helped. The place used to be a traditional B&B, but now it is just a place to stay with a kitchen you can cook in. I stayed in the Blue Room, and it was clean and beautiful. I had a little en suite bathroom with a shower. Right outside my room was a side door to the wrap around porch, an amenity that I took full advantage of while I was there. There was only one other couple staying in the Quarters while I was there, so the house was super quiet. It is an old Victorian, so there are creaky floor boards and my door was a bit difficult to open and shut depending on the humidity. One of the greatest things about this place is the location. It's right across the street from the Old Theater, and just a short walk to the harbor. I went for the Croaker Festival and it was great to have a place so close to everything without being right in the center of all the activity. If I ever get down to Oriental again, I know where I'll be staying.

This is an e-boutique hotel. You will receive a code prior to your stay that opens the building and your guestroom doors. Assistance is only a text away, but I didn't need anything during my stay. The rooms are gorgeous, with designer furnishings and accents in soft blues and grays. It's elegant, yet also very comfortable with a supremely luxurious bed and two nice chairs making a reading nook. The bathroom has large floor space, thought the shower is a bit small. There's no closet per se, but there's a rack with plenty of hangers and shelving above, plus drawers in the bedroom for storage. I paid the small extra amount to book one of the rooms with a balcony. I would recommend going that route, as the balcony rooms are on the side of the building away from Front St. and facing toward the river and the sunset view. The balconies themselves are large, with a side table and two chairs that are comfortable for enjoying the view. Location is prime, and just about anything you're here to do will be within walking distance. Tryon Palace is just a few blocks down, and the main shopping and dining streets are even closer. The riverfront is just across a parking lot. There is on-site parking at The Harvey, with one space for each room. It's easy to access, and directly adjacent to the building. There are no elevators or bell staff to assist with bags, so there are considerable stairs involved unless you're on the ground floor. (There are three floors of guest accommodations.) Everything here is fresh and new and in impeccable shape, and there are many historic photographs the Harvey building and the New Bern area in the hallways and on the landings, but from the inside you would never guess the structure is well over 200 years old. My only frustration was with the TV, which is one of those things where I can never find "normal" channels -- for instance, I could not locate the Monday Night Football game on it. But maybe you're better with technology than I am. Otherwise, this was a terrific option and I wouldn't really consider anywhere else if returning to New Bern.

This property didn't use many points compared to other locations, and our condo was HUGE! The Ground Floor was a little air conditioned Storage(Party Room)with 2 locked bicycles we we had keys to and could ride anytime. It was by the carport. Then, the condo was spacious(see pics). Master bedroom was HUGE with a vanity area in the middle and maybe the bed was a KIng or California King. Had covered/screened in porch attached to the jacuzzi room, uncovered porch attached to dining room. Fully stocked kitchen, 2.5 bathrooms, large loft bedroom with plenty of closet space, and washer/dryer/dishwasher/all of that good stuff you need to just relax and have nearby. Tvs in every bedroom and livingroom, with cable. Walking distance to Marina(boats!), Recreation center(mini golf, fullsize basketball court, indoor and outdoor pools, ping pong, pool table, other games, gym, conference room). Only problem we had was one of the kitchen drawers fell out when trying to get something out, and the bathroom had mold(it was old shower setup and needs updating). Otherwise, was clean and AWESOME! Great customer service as well.

We learned this from the most engaging couple, Captain Jack and Mate Marilyn, who just happened to have their own boat excursion company. We decided to cruise with them the next morning around 9:30. We arrived about 9:10, they welcomed us aboard and we were off on a 90 minute excursion. The boat is electric so we were able to approach birding areas without frightening the little critters, such as the nesting Ospreys. We were also able to have delightful conversations about nature, the effects of Hurricane Michael on the area, the lovely church where Marilyn and Jack attend and many more interesting facts about the New Bern area. We were totally mesmerized with the outing and the 90 minutes passed much too fast. It was a beautiful day, an enchanting "voyage" and a totally enjoyable adventure with Dragonfly Cruises. By all means do it when you're in New Bern!

Nice lodge to check out and say hi to the resident cat who loves to take naps in the chairs. We would definitely stay here again. It may look like it is way out in the boonies but it is only maybe 15 minutes from Beaufort and an easy drive. 5 stars!!!! Well done!

But that is about it for the good. Now for the bad. Their wifi is spotty at best, i believe this is due to the proximity to the radar at Cherry Point Air Station. But also i had extremely poor cell phone communications the entire time at Dogwood, and on Christmas day i had to leave my camper, leave the campground and go down the road closer to newport to be able to have a cell call with my daughter. Also i have cancer and find out that my doctors have been calling me but i was not receiving cell calls. I have AT&T as my carrier, but i went into the office to complain and they said they are aware of the problem, with only saying try wifi calling. Also if the internet is key to ur stay, they have a firewall setup that rejects websites and even google searches, so if internet, wifi, and cell reception are important to u, then stay away from Dogwood. Also the location is by a curve n people go really fast there so pulling out onto lake road can be challenging and dangerous. Next the garbage dumpster is at the back of the campground, n not really walking distance. Finally there is no bath house on the campground which was a shock as almist all campgrounds have their own bathroom house. This affected myself as my shower in my rv was not working. So all in all i was very disappointed.
