The ballroom it's self was set up with tables due to the reception but it is very spacious and has lots of windows that could be put to use. It has plenty of bathrooms that are accessible and overall a large, beautiful place to host or attend an event!

This is the second time we've stayed here and both times the rooms have exceeded our expectations. Super clean & smells wonderful. The layout of the rooms are great & very spacious. This is such a wonderful place to stay for exploring New Bern. It's a distinctive experience, and…read moreunless you absolutely must have an on-site restaurant and front desk then this will make a memorable stay different from the chain hotels and traditional B&Bs that are the other options. This is an e-boutique hotel. You will receive a code prior to your stay that opens the building and your guestroom doors. Assistance is only a text away, but I didn't need anything during my stay. The rooms are gorgeous, with designer furnishings and accents in soft blues and grays. It's elegant, yet also very comfortable with a supremely luxurious bed and two nice chairs making a reading nook. The bathroom has large floor space, thought the shower is a bit small. There's no closet per se, but there's a rack with plenty of hangers and shelving above, plus drawers in the bedroom for storage. I paid the small extra amount to book one of the rooms with a balcony. I would recommend going that route, as the balcony rooms are on the side of the building away from Front St. and facing toward the river and the sunset view. The balconies themselves are large, with a side table and two chairs that are comfortable for enjoying the view. Location is prime, and just about anything you're here to do will be within walking distance. Tryon Palace is just a few blocks down, and the main shopping and dining streets are even closer. The riverfront is just across a parking lot. There is on-site parking at The Harvey, with one space for each room. It's easy to access, and directly adjacent to the building. There are no elevators or bell staff to assist with bags, so there are considerable stairs involved unless you're on the ground floor. (There are three floors of guest accommodations.) Everything here is fresh and new and in impeccable shape, and there are many historic photographs the Harvey building and the New Bern area in the hallways and on the landings, but from the inside you would never guess the structure is well over 200 years old. My only frustration was with the TV, which is one of those things where I can never find "normal" channels -- for instance, I could not locate the Monday Night Football game on it. But maybe you're better with technology than I am. Otherwise, this was a terrific option and I wouldn't really consider anywhere else if returning to New Bern.

From the moment we walked into Butterfly Kisses Pavilion we fell in love with the venue. We did not ask for much... just for a stress-free wedding and absolutely no white at the venue. Nonetheless, we were stressed out, lied to, and received white flowers that were disposed of from the wedding the night before. If I did not have mutual friends on Facebook, you would have pocketed almost $1300 for flowers/ greenery we never received (Since everything was reused from the day before). Thank God I have trustworthy friends that look out for me. Something you did not do for my husband and I on our wedding day. Thanks for the refund on the flowers though. As for the wedding day management services that you promised to refund in full ($700) and only did half. Please keep the money as you obviously need it more than me. I just do not think it is fair that you are lying to the other people on the reviews saying you only promised half. Laura, You, and Me talked on the phone together when you promised to refund me in FULL. In the text messages between you and the bride (who's wedding was the day before ours) you said, "I did struggle with timing of my day and will admit I used boutonnieres that I found to eliminate the need to put together a few less than I had to do." Katrina- we did not want any white in the wedding. You reused ALL the flowers/greenery from Laura's wedding on June 4th, 2022. Moving on, you said directly "I cannot coordinate back-to-back weddings and do flowers and lighting. I had too much on my plate that caused me to not perform my best for that second couple" MY HUSBAND AND I WERE THE SECOND COUPLE. It will forever upset me that our wedding was just dollar signs to you. AFTER MY WEDDING KATRINA POSTED THE PICTURE OF MY HUSBAND AND I AND DELETED IT BECAUSE SHE CLAIMED THE WORK OF ANOTHER FLOREST FOR THE FLOWERS SHE DISPOSED OF AND REUSED FOR MY WEDDING. QUOTE FROM KATRINA:"Regarding claiming the flowers, I definitely shouldn't have done so with those images. I removed the post immediately when you pointed it for both reasons of not knowing what we would say to each other but also because that image didn't have my work in it." She admitted that it was not her work, but MY HUSBAND AND I PAID FOR HER WORK. Again, this is untrustworthy of a business, and she committed fraud. Did I mention the stressful part yet? As she mentioned in the texts messages that our wedding was not a priority, we did not receive the lights we wanted or a rehearsal before the wedding. If a meeting 20 minutes prior to the ceremony is professional to any person getting married here than so be it. But we arrived 3 and a half hours prior to the ceremony to REHEARSE the wedding, but the venue was not even close to being ready yet. My day was falling apart right between my eyes. So Katrina- PLEASE stop lying to the other people that left reviews saying this has been resolved. Laura and I will never forget what you did to us. IT WILL LIVE WITH US FOREVER. My wedding day was beautiful, but the services you provided were unprofessional and sneaky. Captain Matthew was waiting for us and welcomed us aboard. Very comfortable seating and well maintained vessel. Electric motor was perfect for the quiet crusing and delightful conversation with other guests. We learned about the river, the area, a little history, the locals and some nature. Full 2 hour cruise. Very reasonable pricing and great value. We loved the rivers and all that we got to see. Highly recommend!

We headed to the dock to find out about a boat tour but the company we were searching was no longer…read morein business. We learned this from the most engaging couple, Captain Jack and Mate Marilyn, who just happened to have their own boat excursion company. We decided to cruise with them the next morning around 9:30. We arrived about 9:10, they welcomed us aboard and we were off on a 90 minute excursion. The boat is electric so we were able to approach birding areas without frightening the little critters, such as the nesting Ospreys. We were also able to have delightful conversations about nature, the effects of Hurricane Michael on the area, the lovely church where Marilyn and Jack attend and many more interesting facts about the New Bern area. We were totally mesmerized with the outing and the 90 minutes passed much too fast. It was a beautiful day, an enchanting "voyage" and a totally enjoyable adventure with Dragonfly Cruises. By all means do it when you're in New Bern!

Leslie Wheat's initial response to our inquiry was fast and we knew right away that we were in for a treat. Initially scheduled for September, Hurricane Florence had other plans. We reschedule for May, 2019 and enjoyed some very tasty and plentiful food. Our reunions are held annually and this was better than many sit down dinners we've had. While in New Bern, I took the New Bern Trolley Tour, as that seemed the best way to get an overview…read moreof the city and limit my walking, as I've been having some injury flare-ups. I was even picked up from my hotel (and returned at the end). I was given somewhat of a tour to the official trolley stop. Restrooms were available near the trolley site, if needed. The trolley is also air-conditioned. When the rest of the tour joined us, we took a 90-minute trip around New Bern. The driver and tour guide were both incredibly friendly and had a good sense of humor. They both had intense knowledge of the town's history to share. We enjoyed stories of the town and saw some of its architecture. I enjoyed seeing the Slover-Bradham House (built in 1848), which I wouldn't have appreciated as much without first hearing the story of Caleb Bradham's life. It was a grand residence, and even the brick slave quarters (which were already there when he purchased) were of high quality. Bradham lived in those quarters after his bankruptcy. The Rhone Hotel (founded in 1923) was another building with a long history. It was listed in the Green Book as a safe haven for black travelers during the Jim Crow Era. Charlotte Rhone was the first African American registered nurse in North Carolina. The Isaac Taylor House was a historic gem. It still has the Civil War bucket and pulley used outside of the house. When the Union Troops occupied New Bern in 1862, this house served as their headquarters. Isaac Taylor's three unmarried daughters refused to leave the home and took up residence on the third floor for the duration of the war. They used the bucket-and-pulley system to get food and supplies to the third-floor window. The trolley tour has two stops where you can get off. One was at Cedar Grove Cemetery, and the other was at the New Bern Academy Museum. The Trolley Tour was the highlight of my visit to Craven County and a great way to learn about New Bern's history.

I found this place on airbnb.com while trying to find a place in Beaufort, NC for the 4th of July…read moreweekend. This was the closest thing open and after a bit of research on Oriental, I just decided to check out the town and the Croaker Festival instead of using it as a home base for Beaufort (about an hour or so away). The Captain's Quarters was such a beautiful place to stay. I was apprehensive because their website is old and the information wasn't quite the same as it was on airbnb.com. I got ahold of the manager, Linda, and that helped. The place used to be a traditional B&B, but now it is just a place to stay with a kitchen you can cook in. I stayed in the Blue Room, and it was clean and beautiful. I had a little en suite bathroom with a shower. Right outside my room was a side door to the wrap around porch, an amenity that I took full advantage of while I was there. There was only one other couple staying in the Quarters while I was there, so the house was super quiet. It is an old Victorian, so there are creaky floor boards and my door was a bit difficult to open and shut depending on the humidity. One of the greatest things about this place is the location. It's right across the street from the Old Theater, and just a short walk to the harbor. I went for the Croaker Festival and it was great to have a place so close to everything without being right in the center of all the activity. If I ever get down to Oriental again, I know where I'll be staying.
