Once done we got dressed, both of them were waiting outside of the door and the lady stretched her arm out and didn't say anything just did a hand gesture for give me a tip and well we didn't want to be rude but then she said $10 for each of us. & we were like no definitely not especially after the massage and experience and she insisted with the $10 so never again we only gave $5 each plus tipping is voluntary but not to be rude we gave them. Shappell was very thorough during the massage. ***however, upon reflection and discussion w a massage therapist friend on mine, I have concerns re consent in the following instances. 1. She told me that she would leave the room for me to undress but did not. 2. She told me to undress to my comfort level, which for me was top and bottom underwear. She then promoted me to remove my bra. 3. She used cupping without asking me before hand or instructing me as to why. Cupping obviously leaves marks on my back which I did not anticipate having following my appointment. This hasn't been a part of deep tissue massages I've had in the past at other places and this was the first time I'd ever have it done. 4. She took pictures of my back after the cupping which I did not consent to her taking. I would not have known she did this had she not shown me afterwards. I hope she has since deleted them. Shappell seems lovely and clearly is a gifted massage therapist. However, I feel very uncomfortable with these aspects and hope they are addressed for future clients.

When I arrived, they took my temperature on my wrist, which I understand has to be done, and they were really relaxed and respectful about it. Then, when Erika came to take me back, she talked through what I wanted with me, offering her suggestions when I needed them. The shampoo was very nice, their quiet sink room was really relaxing, and when my hair was cut and they needed to dry it, Erika had a second stylist help her, which really made me happy. Usually I just sit for half an hour while one person tries to wrestle with drying my hair. The atmosphere was clean and pleasant and I highly recommend this salon. And Erika!

My enjoyment ends there. I called in to make the appointment for an updo to go with my costume on halloween. I was told I would have to have the red carpet style and it "starts" at $75. I was very specific on the phone and told them my hair is roughly 32 inches long, inquiring to how much that would be. The receptionist told me she could not tell me how much that would be, and the stylist did not tell me that my style I requested would actually be NINETY dollars. The lack of transparency is truly upsetting and unacceptable. To that effect, I was asking the stylist how much they charge for haircuts & she again stated that it depends entirely on length and hair, starting at $60 but for my length, it would be probably $120. That is truly insane. I've heard of salons charging a small fee for extra long hair but double the amount of a "normal" cut is just ridiculous and not fair to customers with long hair. Also, there was a huge dog inside the salon, with a man that I believe works there. Salons are supposed to be hygienic, professional spaces, & a dog sniffing around me while I'm in the chair is not conducive to that kind of environment. It creates a potentially unsafe environment for those with allergies or for anyone in general, should the dog become provoked. Given all of this, I will not be back & will instead go to other salons that are fairly & transparently priced & that maintain a welcoming atmosphere for all guests.
