My boyfriend who is an architectural designer, had Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater home on the top of his bucket list. The closest place to stay near Fallingwater seems to be in Connersville at the Comfort Inn. Fortunately, this Comfort Inn turned out to be a good place to stay. Our room was of good size, spotlessly clean, comfortable, and with a good view. The complimentary breakfast doesn't amount to much, but the staff working it were friendly and polite as were the desk clerks. I particularly liked this Comfort Inn as it had a good bar, a friendly bartender, and reasonably priced drinks of a generous pour. But the best thing about this Comfort Inn is its location right on a clean Appalachian waterway, the Youghiogheny River. The back patio overlooks the Youghiogheny and is one of the most relaxing and beautiful settings one could ask for, especially with its surrounding sycamore tree cover overlay lining the embankments.

South Broadway Manor - Lovely dining room setting for the complimentary delicious breakfast

South Broadway Manor

Our host, Pat, was incredibly warm, welcoming, and gracious, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The full breakfast, served in a stunning historic dining room, was absolutely delicious and a wonderful way to start the day. Our room was spacious, beautifully appointed, and exceptionally comfortable. I only wish we could have stayed longer to admire and learn more about the remarkable collection of antiques and historic furnishings that Pat has thoughtfully incorporated throughout this elegant manor. Every room had its own unique charm and character. If you're traveling near Pittsburgh or anywhere in western Pennsylvania, don't miss the opportunity to stay at South Broadway Manor. It's a memorable experience filled with history, hospitality, comfort, and charm. We highly recommend it!

Aside from being very friendly, welcoming and providing excellent service, the owner Pat is a treasure trove of facts about the local area, the story behind the property and the family who owned it in the 1800s and early 1900s. She provides a social and historical context that weaves Broadway Manor into American history. It's like living in a museum with carefully curated artifacts from the Civil War, the Gilded Age and beyond. An added bonus? If you're interested, Pat will provide an impromptu tour and oral guide. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. I don't think you can fully absorb the experience in one trip. Pat is a gem. Her attention to detail is impeccable. If she ever stops running the B&B, I hope Broadway Manor is turned into a museum. It's definitely worth the money.

Cancelled. Made the reservation, got no confirmation until I'd written twice asking them to…read moreconfirm. Concurrently, had a strange charge on my credit card from a company called Laconic. No description or contact info on them on the credit card statement, no number to call. Found a number online, tried calling it twice, each time held for more than ten minutes then got a recording asking me to hang up and that someone would call me back. No one did. I googled Laconic and found a site for Laconic Global, "A Carbon Securitization Platform." My Bank, Chase, could not find any info on them and agreed with me that the charges appeared to be a scam. So I closed out my credit card, had to get a new one, and spent hours setting up new monthly payment schedules for my bills. What a hassle! It seemed especially considering "laconic" means "....using few words to the point of being terse...." Who the hell would name their company Laconic? Well, it turns out it WAS the charge for our room at The Chateau in Connellsville, PA. No apology for screwing up my credit rating and costing me many hours for having to open a unneeded new credit card. I got a call asking for payment for a new reservartion from Cheryl, who's phone ID says she's with an events company. Said it was too bad I cancelled my credit card - I should have known that the two charges on my credit card equalled the amount of my room reservation. But she could re-book it. and BTW, there is no staff on site. "...It's really not a B&B. There's a code you enter to get into your room, and for breakfast, you'll get a voucher good at a motel only about a half mile from The Chateau." Gee, no thanks. I decided to take a pass and suggest you will want to, too.
