I'm really happy that I took the online course today. There is a LOT of information but it had a comfortable pace with an option to listen to audio while you read each page. That helped me absorb information better. The online course lasted for 6 hours. You can't get around it and is required by law. You will also be given simple questions during the presentation to make sure you're the person you say you are and are paying attention. You will also need your drivers license, car registration and insurance to answer security questions as well. So definitely have these by your side. There were a few technical glitches when processing my payment but it worked on my second attempt after waiting a couple of minutes. I also used my Google Chrome web browser but there was a problem answering one question on the test because I could not read it properly. No biggie. I scored 90% on my test. 70% is required to pass. A minor amount of the text in the presentation was not formatted properly for web browsers so you get a missing icon in some wording, but it's not bad enough to affect what you are reading or having to answer the test questions. The jokes are really cheesy but some are funny. Women may be a little offended by some jokes because it seemed to be bit sexist; but this course, videos and jokes are really old (at least 10-15 years) so just ignore it if you can. Overall, I highly recommend the online option if you want to do the course from home and receive your certificate immediately. I only paid $34 with a discount code for the course, which included the online PDF certificate I received. The fee for the online certificate was only $7. I'm very happy and would recommend to anyone on a busy schedule. read more

I did the in-person class in Mesquite.....absolutely horrible. Instructor was NOT funny, and rambled on about nothing for all but 30-45 minutes toward the end. He went off on tangents unrelated to driving/safety, and ventured into topics he had ZERO business discussing.....giving advice on life insurance and investing.....of which he's not licensed to do, and the 'advice' he was giving was completely incorrect. The session was more about how horribly his life was (this wasn't an act) and all the unfortunate things that has happened to him. It was uncomfortable, yet i felt sorry for the guy. Towards the end, he was enjoying hearing himself ramble so much that he didnt realize that it was 15 minutes over the time we were supposed to stop. The only good thing that came from this was my ability to get a speeding ticket dismissed. read more

The online curse sucks. Nothing funny about it, and it shows videos from the late 80s to prove points. The timer is not connected to the video time and it often shuts off on you. The only reason it lasts so long is because it takes forever for the next page to load. This needs a major update! Glad thats over. The really need to change the name of the class.... read more

Lico Reyes was by far the most unprofessional "instructor" I've ever had the displeasure to be taught by. And he did insist on being called an instructor and pointed it out at every given opportunity, as he clearly has some delusional power fantasy. First of all, the only thing he was interested in teaching was about himself, and his name must've been the most common topic of conversation. Never have I seen such self-promotion, including handing out his business card, a list of movies he was in (none of which I've even heard of, much less seen), and encouraging us to all follow him on facebook. Um, no. Then, on top of being terribly un-funny, he had the nerve to disrespect every minority group you can imagine. Including calling African American students "brothas and sistas", claiming that the Romani people owe him money (as well as spreading every negative stereotype you know and then some), telling an elderly Vietnamese man that he should go into the corner that had an artificial oriental style changing curtain because it was "oriental too!", as well as impersonating a "gay" man, and mocking trans people as "others". I get it, it's supposed to be funny, but it wasn't, it was just plain rude. And his comments on women were probably of the poorest taste of all, implying that women sleep with cops to get out of tickets and making a "joke" of how beautiful women should drink twice the liquor suggested per hour. *wink, wink* Yes, sexual assault, hilarious. He also walked around the room and touched people, things, and even took one woman's purse. As though we all weren't taught when we were young to keep our hands to ourselves. If that wasn't enough, I wrote all of this on my comment card, and this guy calls me personally. He calls me, and when I explained to him I felt as though his "performance" was unacceptable he proceeds to threaten to call my employer about this comment card, at which point I hung up. Call my employer, please, please do. I got my certificate quickly, which was the highlight of my experience. I will never spend money here again. read more

The company knew of an emergency venue change yet didnt advise anyone via text or email the night before. Late start equal changes in our plans for the afternoon. The "comedian" believed sarcasm was funny at the expense of people in the class. VERY VERY little teaching content during six BRUTAL hours. We listened to all the places he has traveled the world yet he drives for Uber, does this, and is on dating sites. The highlight of the day was how wonderful the waiter was at the Outback in Plano and we aren't Outback fans. I will NEVER book through this company again. read more

I'm pretty sure this is my first review, as I usually don't deem it necessary to post my thoughts. This company, however, has become the exception. Warning: Do not take this course! My husband probably should have known better, since there are so many poor reviews (just check their FB), but he ended up taking their online course. It has probably been one of the worst decisions we've made. He completed the course, paid for the delivery, and waited. When the certificate didn't show, we became concerned, and asked the court for an extension. Surely it was just a mistake, and the certificate would be delivered soon. By this point in time, we probably should have just paid to take another course. After calling them numerous times, with the owner always promising to call us back (but never actually doing it), we missed the court deadline. We pleaded with the court to grant us a second extension, but they said their hands were tied and that we had to pay a $200 fine! Not only did my husband take this course in vain, but now we're out $200, plus the actual cost of the course AND the delivery fee (which is simply enraging). I've already reported them to TEA and BBB, so we'll see what happens from here. I wouldn't wish our same fate upon anyone. Please don't take your chances here. read more

I took this course after receiving a flyer in the mail. I wish that I would have checked Yelp first, I think that there are a lot better options. First off - there 24 hour support is ridiculous. Try calling during a Dallas Cowboys game... no one answered the phone for me on a recent Sunday. I finally got a hold of a super unfriendly gentleman, who sounded like he was in Africa (based on the quality of the phone line). I tried to explain to him some errors in the website, and how the difference between "Make" or "Model" to verify your personal information could be easily confused (Toyota vs Prius). He disagreed. I also tried to explain to him that there website had a factual error. He wasn't into listening how this could be the case. There is no comedy at all to the online portion at least. The videos are of poor quality and make you feel like you are back in the 80's. You also have a timer before you can proceed to the next page (other sites probably have this as well). There is no easy way to see how many chapters there are in the course (they say that a message popped at the beginning, but that there is no way to get back there to view it again). There are 10 chapters BTW. Dumpy website, dumpy customer service. Try another site. read more

I did a similar online course and the classroom through these guys back to back so I've got a pretty good comparison to work from. Sitting at your computer and doing the online course seems convenient but I found the classroom to be much less painful. I took the Mesquite course and the guy was likable and made the time go by fast. I will definitely be doing offline classroom courses from now on. The only downside to the classroom course is you will inevitably be in a class with moronic 16 year olds. read more

Yall complaining about this, there is no way in hell that is is as bad as drivinguniversity.com. They have a timer that you have to wait for before moving on. Even on pages that say's click play to play the video, and you have to wait 30sec. It was a joke. I call half way thru (already about 6 hours) to get refund and actually take a live class here. They should make all the classes live classes. Online makes you want to grab a few cocktails and run through town at top speed flipping everyone the bird and hitting little old ladies and children for points. read more

This review is for the online course. I would not recommend the online course for the following reasons: 1)You have to watch the videos, not to learn, but to observe silly things like what people are wearing or what color something was. 2)If you miss a question, you are forced to watch the video again with the timer reset. Essentially you can easily double or triple your time taking this course. 3)It wasn't funny or entertaining. I am not sure it was educational either. 4)The videos/reading material do not fill the entire span of required waiting. This is just a waste of time. 5)Sexist jokes are old and played out. Time to move on. 6)Im pretty sure people come out of this course with MORE road rage and childish behaviors than they entered. It's as if this course encourages childish behavior. I ended up using another online course from School # C1635 and adding the video for an additional $10 and I do not regret that decision. I have and will continue to highly recommend using the Comedy Guys for a defensive driving course in Texas. I thoroughly enjoyed my Saturday class in Arlington with Becky Jane Romine. Becky was hilarious and endlessly fascinating. Before the class, I was a little weary of six hour seminar (I didn't have lectures that long even in college), but the time flew by and it didn't feel like a classroom at all. In fact, my "classroom" was actually a local restaurant where I received a free, tasty meal. It was obvious from the get-go that Becky is a professional comedian because she kept my interest the entire time -- she also kept me laughing. Becky had fantastic stores, and was a complete hoot. Becky not only managed to be highly entertaining, but also shared some real, thought-provoking points during the course. You could tell that she actually cared for her "students" well-being. I stayed after the class to personally thank Becky for her performance. And the laughs kept coming because everyone in the class was issued free comedy club passes. Getting a ticket is a real drag, but the Comedy Guys course actually made the process really fun. My certificate arrived on-time with no issues. read more

I'm not sure what people expect when taking an online class, Ive taken the class in person, and online. Online - BORING but it serves its purpose. I Took the class while doing other work. Its not funny, its boring. But it did not take an entire work day away from me as the in person class (I made $500 working while listeing to videos and answering minor questions) Sure the Timers are Crappy. but hey you've gotta endure 6 hours so it paces you.. In person - Hillarious i enjoyed it, the tests were very very easy to pass and i doubt anyone in the class didnt pass. In the future i'll be doing the class in person not online. Thats for sure. But the crappy reviews on here about sexist jokes are idiotic. And if you've ever been to a comedy club jokes are 10x more racey and sexist there. So shut up with that garbage. Don't wanna waste your time? Dont get a ticket - thats how i feel the class is a requriement in order to save some money. This Comedy defensive driving class is the biggest waste of money and my time. The only funny comments were by us the students. The "comedy" instructor didnt even attempt a joke. What he did manage to do was make up completely ridiculously false "facts" such as when a train approaches, the tracks become magnetic. Thats how the train stays on the tracks. Seriously?? Top all this off with crappy pizza and seriously uncomfortable plastic chairs made for kiddy birthday parties. Oh and just so you know, throwing food out the window can actually cause animals to flock to an area and then have sex and mess up the entire ecosystem. Yeah, I can't believe I paid money for this. Enjoyable course. Beats renting the 1987 defensive driving video from Blockbuster, and you can do it on your own time, from your iphone or ipad, even. Not bad for $25! Ran into a glitch on it at 1AM, so I called tech support. I was on hold for about 5 seconds before tech support picked up. They were based locally and were American, so it was easy to understand them, and we worked through the issue in a couple of minutes. All in all, a good experience, and I will recommend them to anyone I know that gets a ticket! read more

By far the best and most informative Comedy Defensive Driving class I've ever taken! (and I've done my share) This is the first time I've ever walked away not feeling like I just wasted a day of my life. Entertaining, educational, and the food at the restaurant (Marshall's BBQ in Carrollton) which was included in the price of the course, was excellent. Yeah the comedy schtick wears thin after 6-hours, but the instructor did a great job of getting REAL, and it wasn't like he hated being there with us. - I'm reviewing this due to my lead foot and not because it was court-ordered or anything. I took the online course because my work schedule wouldn't really allow me to take time off so this was very convenient. As mentioned in other reviews, the videos are old and some are downright boring, but I would go through lessons while eating, folding laundry, etc. You would think taking this course from a comedy club would yield a high entertainment value. It was subpar with a lot of hit-or-miss jokes. Few were actually clever, some fell flat, and others were downright too long to care about the punchline. They also have "characters" that speak in accents and it helped break up the sound in hearing the dialogue, but the professor and redneck cop were killing me. Along with such old videos, they might consider recasting and writing. Enough of that; after all, this is about a safety course and not a night out at the actual comedy club. For what it's worth, I did learn a few things and have adjusted my attitude when driving. I had to call Tech Support once due to a login issue, but had a pleasant experience with someone that didn't make me wait too long. He gave me the standard "Did you plug it in and turn it on?" attitude at first, but I could tell he had to start from the beginning when trying to help me out. I got my certificates to discount my insurance and waive my speeding ticket so everything worked out. Although I never hope to have to go through this again, I would still choose them because they tried to make it fun and that counts for something. read more

I took this defensive driving course to dismiss a speeding ticket I got in Plano, TX. Like always I waited until the last minute to get it done, and using this service I was able to complete it at home at my own pace. Good service. I received the mailed certificate within three days as expected as I didn't pay for next day delivery (I didn't wait that long to get it done :) ) I would recommend their service if you are needing to get your ticket dismissed and waited until the last minute to do so. read more

Do not take the in person comedy class! The instructor Tom made me very uncomfortable on how much he directed all his jokes and walk bys and whispering stuff to me or the other students. Some of his comments and off lesson remarks we're offensive. I felt harrassed. I called the owner of the company while I was still in the parking lot after the class and felt he made zero effort to handle the situation and made no effort to follow up with me after. They also did not send my certificate in the mail. I took the class almost a month prior to insure, I would have it completed before my court date. After a horrible phone discussion once again with the owner followed by another phone call the next day by Suzanna, they agreed to send it certified but wanted me to pay half the cost which was $35. Very unprofessional and dishonest dealings. Good news is they did get it to me the day of my court hearing, it was not sent certified however, more like someone dropped it off in person to my door. Class was over in no time and for 5 hours it went pretty fast. I had stopped a couple times to put up laundry and grab a snack, so once I finished the 6 hour time limit was up, and I was able to take the test. Also, the website or maybe it was my phone acted up and it didn't accept the coupon code. I emailed them and the next morning received a reply email plus a refund for the difference!! Showed up for class on time and waited 30 minutes or so, along with several others, only to be told by one of the bartenders at the restaurant that the instructor called and asked her to let us know that classes are only held "every other Saturday" and that today's class was canceled. When I called Comedy Guys to ask why I had received confirmation of the class/date time and further, why had I been instructed to show up 15-20 minutes early? They blamed it on the instructor and offered a $10 discount for a future class. When I asked for a refund since I had cleared my schedule today and would most likely have to complete the class online, I was told to call back. When I asked to speak to the administrator, I was told he was recovering from surgery and was unavailable. Hopefully the surgery was successful in removing his head out of his ass. Then I went 3 weeks without opening up my course and it closed me out. They would not help me log into the course and basically said just pay again, even though I paid for the course twice. While Austin would be better served by ticketing on Ben White and I-35, where the mean drivers seem to congregate... if you get dinged in one of our notorious side-street speed traps, might as well take your lumps and do online defensive driving. The good: I actually loved that you have to wait 240 seconds before turning the page. If you can read it in 10 seconds, that's 230 seconds to get work done in another window! Try THAT in a live class! The bad: Audio quality is no better than the built-in mic on a Handi-cam. The video about safety belts gives wrong information. The next page says Comedy Guys are "working on a new video" incorporating the "new" law as of 2009. In five years, they couldn't make one two-minute video? The longest video isn't even their production; it's a MADD video from 1994. But what really sets this company apart is the sexist "humor." Traffic is a universal enough experience to yield plenty of witty insights that don't belittle half the customer base. "Men working - now THIS I gotta see!" is self-deprecatingly dismissed as a "lame" joke on the very next page. But the following jokes are left in, without commentary, as "charming" comedic relief: "Wife: (shopping for a sports car) I want something that goes from 0 to 200 like THAT! So I bought her a scale." "Police officer: Why were you speeding? Man: Last week my wife ran off with a cop, and I was afraid you were him, chasing me down to give her back!" "After eleven years of waking up with my wife looking like she escaped from the natural history museum, no hairstyle will ever frighten me again." (Not sure what that last one has to do with driver safety.) While I like the online defensive driving course in theory, this company needs to update their material if they are serious about capturing a larger share of the market. read more

This was my first time taking a defensive driving course and they made it simple and stress-free. The online course itself was comprehensive, straight forward, and very user friendly. While I didn't use the support they made it very clear that it was available if you had any questions. I received my certificate in the mail promptly after completing the course. I took a class at a garland restaurant and it was pretty fun yeah the instructor made lame jokes but he tried his best it's a driving class how fun can it be. they clearly state what is state regulation and all the guidelines and also how long it might take to receive your certificate. A really bad experience at siciliano's restaurant in Garland with Tom.I don't know if he was sick or something but he was rude unhelpful and just hurtful to a couple of the people in the group.He spent the first hour telling us about how other people had complained about him and about how it wasn't his fault..I've never had a bad experience taking any of these courses and was really surprised and taken aback. Don't know what people are expecting or talking about that they didn't learn anything. It's a defensive driving course. As long as it met state requirements & clears a traffic ticket, that's all that should matter. The online course did that, these guys did their job. The go over the normal driving safety topics & statistics & try to spice it up with a little comedy. Yes corny jokes & characters included. I did learn some things I didn't know. The questions asked throughout are mostly observation questions about the videos with a couple of them repeating. If you miss a question, you DON'T have to rewatch the video, unless you want to. The timer for it did reset however and that was annoying to wait for it to end especially if it's a long timer. The final test was pretty easy, more like common sense questions. If I ever have to do this again (& hopefully I don't), I'll use these guys. read more

I've used Comedy Guy's twice now. The first time, it was in an actual face to face class and then about 8 or so years later I took the online course and passed the exam first attempt,both times. So I strongly dislike defensive driving and I'm sure most people can agree to that but it has to be done. Comedy Guys make defensive driving easy and somewhat entertaining with the quirky videos corny jokes. They also make it fun to pay attention to if you're like me and like to daydream. My most favorite part though is that whenever I had an issue or problem with the online course even if it was after hours Jeff would always be available by phone to help! Do yourself a huge favor and schedule the time to take the instructor led course. This is the second and last time I will ever take the online course. It takes much longer than if I had gone to a local class nearby like my last Comedy DD course. For the same bucks, at least you get to socialize and meet the instructor instead of some anonymous internet company. You will waste/spend more time waiting for the mandated page timers to end so you can click to the next page. Class discussion is at least interesting and or humorous, and taking the final test is much easier than the quiz at the end of each chapter (TX test). Score less than 70 and it makes you wade through the whole damn chapter again. Online tests asks a few mundane, statistical type or trick questions. The other aspect is the continual questioning to insure you are the one taking the course, and the intermittent questions which you don't get in class. The cost is the same - so why not socialize and be entertained. Classroom final review and one test is much better. read more
