Very delicious and the mole negro got my partner addicted to mole The chicken was rolled which was an interesting presentation You also get a bread basket with a delicious dipping sauce and butter Decor was classy. I enjoyed sitting in the courtyard to eat. There were plants everywhere and birds too. Beware of the mosquitos! Some minor issues: - The cocktails were very weak! I would probably avoid these here (overly sweet and little alcohol) - Sometimes the service was a bit slow. It took over 20 minutes to get the check and we asked twice for it. I don't really fault since it was a busy night with large parties. We just chatted while we waited and eventually had to find a staff member to get our check

The Reforma neighborhood is obviously a very posh part of town - nice shops and quiet streets. Casa Oaxaca Café is an oasis - an open courtyard layout with wooden tables and lots of flowers. The service is exquisite and Chef Alejandro's food is divine. We started with the homemade breads from the basket that they are walking around with. Each slab of "quick bread" was 19 pesos and came with the jam of the day. We split a slice of the carrot bread and the "butterfat" bread with the mango jam. The carrot bread did not really need any adornment as it was so moist and delicious - remarkable because raisins can dry bread out. The butter bread was also quite moist, but it was a blank canvas if you will and the tropical mango jam really sang on it. We split a couple of the tempting egg dishes. We had the fried farm fresh eggs (a perfect easy to medium with vibrant yellow-orange yolks with bacon (TOCINO!!!), black beans and herbed homemade tortillas (82 pesos or just over $4). They were some of the best eggs that I have ever had - a tortilla with a shmear of black beans, a bit of egg and some bacon and a bit of salsa roja is a breakfast taco that I could never have imagined possible. (The eggs are cooked on the comal, and it does something really special.) We also had the Huevos Rancheros (105 pesos or $5.25), which was a tortilla fresh of the comal topped with a couple of those perfect eggs, a warm salsa of tomatoes, onions and aguachiles and a couple of slices of fresh cheese that was grilled on the comal. Oh my goodness - that sweet and slightly spicy sauce with the unctuous and rich eggs was mind blowing. I wasn't a super big fan of the cheese, as it was a little tough, but it was not needed. We did have a chapurrado as well (35 pesos or less than $2). I thought that this was different from the chocolate atole. After having had it, I think that it is the same thing with a local name versus an explanatory name. It was an amazing meal with warm and lovely people. I only wish that I could get Chef Alejandro's cookbook, but I can only find it in Spanish!

Jose made it clear, however, that the place gets super busy at night when they have live music. Tlayuda with Chorizo is nicely priced at 129p and plenty for two to share! Load up on the spicy salsa, guac sauce, and the pickled onions/peppers! Cerveza is wonderfully priced at 30p and if you ask nicely, you can get a basic espadin mezcal, as well. (Didn't keep the receipt with the price on it). As people have said, it's a bit out of the center of the city, but it's a nice ~15-20 minute walk or you can grab a taxi if you're so inclined. It's definitely worth it for such a hearty lunch with wonderful service!

He insisted I eat one before I leave. So that's how I ended up at tlayudas el negro. I had three choices of meat, the tasajo is a tougher meat so I decided to get one with cecina. Other options were costilla -ribs or chorizo. I was able to modify it and have it with very little cheese and I asked if they could not fry it too much. I ordered the enmolada for 120 pesos. The mole was good but it had a very thin layer of it, tiny pieces of meat couldn't taste the flavor and the tlayuda was extra crispy and burnt but it didn't bother me that much but I didn't enjoy this dish. I'm glad I tried it and you may like it. If you get a chance try one from the Mercado or the street vendors. If your gut can handle it. What I really liked was the garnish on top! Yes just this one or two herb pieces was delicious. It gave the food such a distinct flavor I liked the aftertaste. The herb is called chipeche. Service was great and there's live music, someone was playing the violin. I will not be back but you should try it. If you're a drinker I think you have a good chance of enjoying the food and atmosphere.

A great item to order to try a bunch of finger foods from this region was the Botana Zandunga, which came with garnachas (mini tortillas topped with beef, salsa, onions, cheese, pickled cabbage), molotes de platano (plantain fritters stuffed with cheese/cream), empanadas (corn tortillas stuffed with beef), tamal de elote (sweet corn tamal), tamalito de cambray (tamal filled with beef stew), bolitas de queso (fried cheese balls), tacos dorados de cochito (fried rolled tacos stuffed with pork), and pico de gallo (chopped tomatoes/onions/cilantro topped with dried shrimp). Each of these items was unique in flavor and texture, and it was fun to try so many different little bites! Next, the Ensalada Zandunga was a simple salad of lettuce, tomate, cheese, basil, and a berry vinaigrette. We also had two local main dishes--the Cochito Horeneado were pork ribs baked in an ancho chile adobo, served with a spiced potato puree and corn tortillas; and the Estofado del Istmo was a shredded beef stew cooked with fruits, served with potato puree, pan bollo (toasted bread), and queso mantequilla (butter cheese). Overall, everything here was tasty, and the beautiful setting made for a nice place for a relaxed meal.
