    Mole emoladas and tlayuda

Went to Cabuche our first night in Oaxaca with the hopes of a comforting, no-fuss meal - that's exactly what we got. The only thing we got wrong were the portion sizes. We ordered three items only to find out the dishes were HUGE. Finishing everything was a challenge we weren't prepared for, but we loved what we tried. The mole emoladas were my personal favorite.

Lunch at Cabuche was our first meal when we arrived in Oaxaca this week. The restaurant is charming (with a beautiful open air patio where you can eat under a pomegranate tree). The service was great. And our food was very good! I had the tostada de escabeche de pescado, and my husband had the huarache oaxaqueno (spicy pork and quesillo). We also shared a dessert of ice cream at the end of our meal. I love that they bring a bowl of snacks to start the meal - jicama and cucumber with lime/chile/salt - such a great snack while you wait for your main meal! Overall, it was a really lovely meal. I'd happily return.

    Curado tomate -- tasty!

I've eaten here a few times because it is close and convenient to where I'm staying. The food has been mixed, some good, some so-so. I liked their pozole and huitlacoche tlayuda. What put this place into the four star category for me was their drinks. Check out all their fermentos -- tepache, pulque and a variety of curados! Also their champurrado was delicious.

A friend who lives in Oaxaca suggested that we try lunch here at Cabuche. As you walk in you get the sense that you are in what used to be someones home, as are many places in the historic district. In this case the layout of tables and seating seemed welcoming. There's quite a variety of foods offered for the three main meals of the day. As soon as we were seated a waitress brought a small bowl of house made salsa and, instead of what most tourists would not expect another bowl of sliced jícama, cucumber and carrot. Very Nice. We had the Green Pozole with Chicken (tip) you can mix and match from the pozole menu. The pozoles came with a side plate of finely diced onion, shredded cabbage, thin sliced radish and a wedge of lime, and two blue corn tostadas. As for drinks I had Tamarind water, only slightly sweet and very delicious. My friend ordered orange juice. This lunch would have been memorable as it was but then we asked about deserts. Our waitress clearly well versed recommended her two favorites the Mexican chocolate cake and the corn cake with raspberries. Neither to be compared with anything anywhere else, except fine dining. As delicious as the Pozole was, and believe me it was, these deserts were first class in taste and presentation! Amazing! 5 Solid Stars There's a full bar

Fantastic restaurant. Had the shrimp taco, and the pork, both were delicious. Minerva IPA to wash it down. My wife had the pozole, also delicious. Be sure to bring cash as they don't accept credit cards. Beautiful ambience. Prices are fair. Five out of five, hands down.

Pork huarache!! Was huge and full of meat.

We had a fantastic lunch. The margaritas are delicious and strong. Chicken caldo (soup) was hit and very rich. One person in the group has birria de res, the stock was so rich and thick and full of beef. The staff was attentive and welcoming. We are only here for four days or we would definitely go back.

Run! Do not walk to this place. The pork in the tacos are to die for. The mole negro and all other dishes were throughly enjoyed by all.

We especially love the red pozole with hongos (mushrooms) and the criolla salad with arugula, grapefruit, avocado and Jamaica dressing.

We were able to get a seat right away and the servers were super helpful. My friend wanted to try some mezcal and they let us taste a couple before choosing. We sat at the restaurant instead of the bar because it was cuter and I wanted food too. I tried two of their fruity mezcal drinks and loved both. I forget the names but one had watermelon, and the other had coconut and lime. I ordered cheese stuffed plantains with mole and this was soooo good. It was very filling too!

I thought it was funny when I got the menu and the food menu was only one page while the drink menu was five pages. The outside of the restaurant is blue-ish and the restaurant has multiple rooms. The ceviche del dia ($190 MXN) was a little sweet and not as tart or sour as others I've had. The tacos de sirloin ($170) were really good and were our group's favorite. The taquitos dorados de mole negro ($140) were okay; there was no meat just in case you were wondering. The aguachile rojo de camaron ($190) were good. The esquite con tuetano ($100) was not like a typical corn in a cup but it was closer to a corn soup. For drinks I had the pequeño gigante ($210) which was good. The paloma madura and paloma margarita were both favorites among our group. We went during the day and it wasn't that busy but supposedly it gets way busier and livelier at night.
