Spark by Hilton Williams - Guest room

My husband, our little girl dog and I stayed at this Spark by Hilton in Williams, California for…read morethe last leg of our road trip. We picked this hotel because it is dog friendly (two pets up to 30 lbs each for a non-refundable fee of $50 per pet, per stay) and within a reasonable distance of driving from Oregon for us to eventually head back home to LA County. And because this hotel is highly rated on Yelp (an overall rating of 4.9 stars with 19 reviews), I decided to take a chance and book a night's stay here. We arrived last Friday evening, around 7 pm. We checked in with an employee at the front desk named Michael. He was friendly and very welcoming. The room was very clean. I liked that there were charging pads on both of the dresser tables on either side of the bed and also one on the desk. I also liked that there was liquid hand soap by the sink (way better than the bar soap that dries out your hands) and also products in the bathtub/ shower (body wash, shampoo and conditioner). Our room also had a microwave and mini fridge (but no freezer in the mini fridge). Free breakfast was from 6:30- 9:30 am and is a continental breakfast (meaning it is a light breakfast with few offerings. The only protein available were eggs and dairy). Overall our stay was fine for one night but I wish that the hot water that was available on the night we arrived was hot. Michael did tell us when we checked in that there was coffee and hot water available behind the wall (which is where the dining area for breakfast is). After we unloaded our luggage and settled in for a short while, we decided to head back to the dining area for some hot water to make some tea. But the water wasn't hot and just barely warm. It also tasted like coffee so we decided to pass on the water. If you are passing through the area and looking for a no fuss, affordable stay that is clean, then staying at this Sparks by Hilton would work.

Parking was super easy and the front desk staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. Special shoutout to Kyle for accommodating and making our stay so much more enjoyable! Our rooms were spotless and brand new! The beds were extremely comfortable and the bathrooms were just as clean! We'll definitely be staying here again as we travel consistently up the coast. The location is a perfect rest stop for us in a great area. We highly recommend it to anyone passing through! The town of Williams may be small, but it has several solid restaurant options along with fast food and pizza spots--and even DoorDash delivers right to the hotel, which is a nice bonus after a long day of driving. The hotel itself has been fully renovated, and it really shows. You can tell the ownership genuinely cares about both the property and their guests. Everything feels clean, updated, and well maintained. Amenities are excellent for a stopover or short stay. There's a swimming pool, a grill for cooking, and even a small gym. Parking is plentiful, and most of the time you can park right outside your room, which is great if you're traveling with a car full of belongings or just want peace of mind. In the morning, they offer a basic continental breakfast with hard-boiled eggs, cereal, milk, orange juice, coffee, hot chocolate, muffins, danishes, and yogurt. There's no indoor dining area, but you can easily take it back to your room or enjoy it by the pool. The rooms are well stocked with soap, shampoo/conditioner, lotion, and a shower cap, and I really appreciated the extra space heater in addition to the standard AC/heater wall unit--such a thoughtful touch. The internet is free and good signal. Pro tip: Book directly through the hotel's website. It's cheaper than Booking.com or Hotels.com (I saved $8), and the price difference more than makes up for any points you might earn elsewhere. It's also cheaper than walking in to book, and they do fill up quickly--when we checked in, only a couple of rooms were left. I've been very happy with both of my stays and will absolutely continue stopping here on future trips. Highly recommended!

Coming back home we came here again, skipping Expedia and ended up paying $12 more! I got a thank you from the owner thanking us for the nice review of our first stay and suggesting we book direct and get a better rate. Maybe because we walked in and announced that we were returning customers. Not helpful. Be sure to use Expedia. I am removing one star.

Tacos de tripa are my go to. Gotta have at least 4 of them. Tortillas are handmade fresh. Quesadilla de masa with asada is an automatic order as well. Don't have those at your average taco joint. Burrito's are good size and perfect meat to filling ratio. Rice and beans are solid. Salsa is legit and not runny. They have pollo asado on Fridays I believe. Haven't been able to try that yet, but that's next on my list. Phone order ahead when your about 15 mins out and they'll have it hot and ready to go so you can eat your grindz on the go!

There are also port a potty bathrooms, although they were locked. The location is basically at the end of a road behind a liquor store. Isn't that where the best tacos always are, somewhere off the beaten path? So before ordering, I did see a sign which I interpreted as "extra salsa costs money", which I find kind of annoying. Depending on how the salsa is, I may want to douse every bite in it, so I was hoping that at least what they did give was good. As it turned out, I didn't need to worry, since the sign actually means "no salsa included - at all". So that's kind of lame, what kind of place doesn't give you any salsa at all? Onto the burrito - despite no salsa, this was a very good burrito. A bit greasy, with a fair amount of oil leaking out, but that's normal for fatty braised meat like cabeza. Some salsa verde would have been welcome though. Size-wise it was totally worth it, the ingredients were well integrated, and the tortilla was chewy and held together to the last bite. The wrapping job was also good, so aside from the grease overflowing from my big bites, there were no leaks. I live nowhere near this place so I can't imagine when or if I'll be back, but as far as a good pit stop on I5 this place delivers.
