The current pro shop is called: " SJ BOWLING PRO SHOP " -- It's run by a gentleman named Shawn. (317) 384-2212 He is informative, helpful, knowledgeable, and overall just a cool dude that loves to talk bowling & loves to help others that are interested in bowling, to find the right ball for them, the right shoes, accessories, etc. I definitely recommend checking his pro shop out if you're looking for a new ball, shoes, etc, or if you're just in the alley and want to drop in to say what's up. He has a great selection of bowling balls in stock, and if he doesn't have the one you're looking for on the shelf, he can order it direct to the store and drill it for you on the spot.

It's the only one I'm aware of and for a city of this size, I would think there would be more than one. A Yelp search returns this location as the only bowling alley in Bloomington. It does not list the one on the IU campus probably because it is for students and not the public. The location was not so easy to find even with GPS. I missed the first turn because it didn't look like a street but more like a driveway. Eventually arriving close to my destination, I found the building is located behind a row of buildings on a main road and then set back out of sight on a side street to accommodate a large parking lot. Upon arrival I saw half of the overheard lights turned off making it rather dark inside. The counter person gave me an open lane sandwiched between two sets of young children. Out of 32 lanes, everyone was crammed into the last eight lanes all bunched up together. The other 24 lanes were empty on a day when no leagues were due to bowl per their website. Could I not get a lane without having to share the ball return with people that don't know proper bowling etiquette? It is customary to wait for the person next to you to take their turn so they have no distractions. This was not the case with both sets of people on either side of me, including the adults and the children. Then someone turned on the music on these large speakers mounted every ten feet or so. It was so loud people had to shout to be heard. I happen to be on a phone call and had to step outside the building to talk. I could not hear them and vice versa. If it was later in the evening I could understand but it in the middle of the afternoon. I wasn't there to party, I was trying to practice my bowling skills which takes concentration. I found it too difficult to concentrate with their blaring offensive music. Then there was the snack bar. It was closed! There were no alternatives. No vending machines providing liquid refreshments and a big sign on the door that said no outside food or drink is allowed. Is bowling a sport? Hydration during sporting events is not allowed here? I bowled four frames and left; never to return. I donated my remaining games to the children next to me.

We got to bowl for an hour and a half and got a team t-shirt. Am I a good bowler? Not so much. Was 4 strikes in a game my best bowl? Yes it was. Did anyone care that I wasn't strong? No. I definitely plan on getting my friends together for a team to do the winter league!

The staff was helpful for the kids and let them know they could bowl from further down the lane. Since all of the lanes are original, there are a few issues. One lanes ball return system stopped working while there. Another likes to shoot balls onto the lane. The lane I was on, 2, had a pin that you would knock down but when it reset for the second or third attempt, every time it was back. Overall it was still a fun time. We had pizza, wings and cookies. The pizza was pretty good, nothing fancy. The wings had some spice to them and had the sauce got everywhere with its color. The cookie I had was one of the best I've had. Better than Crumbl. Fun and unique place for an event.

There was a sign in front of the business pointing you to turn down a steer for parking; next block there is a huge parking lot but no signs saying you can park there for fowling, BUT, it was abundantly marked that cars will be towed. Since there was nothing else around, I assumed it was the right place and parked. Of course I briskly walked to fowling to inquire if I was in the correct space. I was, whew. Those towers can really work fast. Fowling is in a warehouse with other businesses, hence the name. It is huge. We were on lane 32, I believe so there's at least 32 lanes. There is also a corn hole area. There is a bar where they have a decent variety of adult beverages. I went with 3 Floyd's warpig, a hazy ipa. It was really good. The important aspect of fowling is not eating or drinking there, but to interact with the people your with. Sure you can win a game, but the fun is the game itself and the camaraderie with a drink. Our leader looked up the rules prior and explained them. You take turns throwing a football at bowling pins, one set of pins on each end of the lane. There are two lines to throw from, our group guys threw from back and women from front. I watched a group next to us, both men and women threw from front line, it didn't appear to give anyone an advantage. I don't know if the pizza place is part of fowling or a separate business, but we got pizza from Bonk Pizza. It was ok, it was enough to say we were fed. I'm glad I did this and would go again.

Google simply "fowling" and you learn about this odd sport where you combine football and bowling. Just now. Right NOW as I'm writing this, the word fowling finally made (sort of) sense. Football + bowling = fowling. Now I'm even pronouncing the word different with a long "o" sound versus the "ou" diphthong. I had to Google that, too, but once I saw diphthong, I knew it was going in my review. You're welcome for the 5th grade grammar lesson. Please redeem your Pizza Hut personal pan pizza for your hard work. Ok, fowling. It has nothing to do with trapping birds or teaching birds of prey to land on your arm (that's falconry). Nope, it's a game you play with friends and beer. The setup is more like cornhole, but you use bowling pins and throw, that's right, a football. Someone was clearly drunk when this game was invented. But what a great way to bring a group of people together! The Fowling Warehouse specializes in the game of fowling, but has several other activities to enjoy as a group: pool, darts, a few arcade games and a golf simulator. I may go back just for the golf simulator. This is the real deal, a full Trackman set up. It was pretty sweet. Those simulators can be a little intimidating at the PGA Superstore, but it's tucked away in the corner at the Fowling Warehouse where you can shank balls and not feel like a fool. Mostly. There are also two bars and you can order pizza and boneless wings. The bar has a nice selection of beers on tap. They use the magnet cup system where the cup fills from the bottom. My favorite thing was seeing multiple signs on the bar that warn you that if you push the bottom of the cup, you will get wet! And I smiled devilishly thinking about curious people testing their luck with the cups and losing every time. For me, I enjoyed a couple glasses of this blood orange IPA. Delicious and refreshing. The Fowling Warehouse isn't exactly my jam, but I think it's the kind of place that is perfect for a certain crowd who enjoys games and likes a new challenge. And they can handle a large party! If you are looking to try a new sport that feels like it was invented by someone who lost a bet, this place is for you! I kid, but the Warehouse is nice and clean and large! The service was good and everyone seemed to have a great time. Seems like a pretty good spot for your next party if games are your thing!
