This is my second season as season ticket holder and although the jackets are third from last, I have to say the the fan base and atmosphere at nationwide arena make going to games a real Joy!! The promotions that they run are fun and entertaining. The concession stands offer upscale snack type food, like burgers, philly steaks and pizzas etc.... They even offer bacon on a stick!! Lol! I have tried all the above and believe me it taste as good as it looks! Far as atmosphere, the organ music, the music between plays and the cannon blast when we score is both a jolt but uplifting at the same time. If you have never been to a Blue Jackets game you should check it out. You will enter as a guest and leave as a fan!

Canucks Vs. Blue Jackets -3/2/2010 Just After the Olympics
    Eric B.

After a 16-day Olympic break, the NHL returned to Nationwide Arena on Tuesday March 2. There was a nice presentation before the game the honored players on both teams that played in what perhaps was the best Olympic tournament ever. Among the stars present were Blue Jacket Captain Steve Nash (Canada) and Vancouver players Ryan Kesler (USA) and Roberto Luongo (Canada). Past that, the moving parts were a little rusty, starting with those awful looking green practice jerseys. Several Ohio State synchronized skaters performing after the first period stumbled and fell to the ice and the IGS Energy Blimp got loose and gently landed on some spectators after the second period. The actual hockey game was pretty sloppy, as the Blue Jackets ended up squandering a 2 goal lead and losing in OT. I was in Section 117 (Lower Bowl) and thoroughly enjoyed the game nonetheless. Of course, as a follower of the SJ Sharks, very few of the players were familiar to me and apparently the Blue Jacket team roster underwent a significant change a few days later and just before the trade deadline passed. I also thought that the Blue Jackets logos, slogan (Carry the Flag), and Union Army history were kind of cool. And in between whistles or periods were the denied possibility of a free Tim Horton's donut, Zamboni Rides, the hip ice cleaning crew, the Fan Lounge (behind me) featuring the Boom Jacket drummers, Ice Girls, and game commentary, and a rotund fan who performed an absolutely hilarious and well done "Harpoon the Canucks" strip tease number. If I were a regular fan living in the Columbus area, I would share and express great frustration with the state of the team and its management. And back in the Bay Area, we're spoiled when our biggest complaint is how the Sharks can be so good in the regular season and throw it all away in the playoffs. Yet, for this one night in Columbus Ohio, the Columbus Blue Jackets, Nationwide Arena, and the nearby Arena District provided me with one really entertaining and well executed professional entertainment experience.

I enjoy hockey and Columbus Blue jackets is a talented NHL team. Columbus blue jackets are competitive and entertaining to watch. The game itself is lively and theres great music and various activities and free giveaways throughout each period to keep you entertained! My favorite seating is the loge seating, best seats in Nationwide arena. And I love the cannon shot, once the blue jackets score a goal!

I didn't go to the NHL All-Star festivities in town last year so I missed the outside Ice rink they put up. A shame because an outside rink downtown should be a winter fixture. I like to skate for the cardiovascular exercise that I miss from not biking during the winter, and a downtown outside rink would be a better experience than the chiller rinks I go to for open skate. But thankfully the All-Star event proved so popular the Blue Jackets teamed with Worthington Industries and created Winter park, a full size ice rink featuring public skates, drop-in hockey, adult Stick and pucks, and even some CBJ practice. It's in McPherson's Commons (Arch park) and will be opened through February 21. Public Skates are $5 and include a decent ice-skates rental; hockey is $25 and of course must be preregister. The website has an easily viewed schedule of these events including prices and registration. I first visited intending to enjoy the mild weather Saturday afternoon. The set up is nice. They have fire pits, heated tents to lock up your valuables, and riser bleachers for viewing. I didn't skate that day, there were too many people on the ice. It takes me some time to get up to par; I need to get one, two, ten, twenty spills out of the way before I regain the form, and I didn't want to take out 30-40 people in the process. But I really wanted to do it so I revisited Monday afternoon when the crowds were sparser. The ice is high quality and skating in the environs of the Arena District is scenic. For a five spot it is a deal and a must for anyone that like skating. I hope they do this every year; it would be a popular event during this cities dower winters.

I am always so impressed with the CBJ organization and Nationwide arena. The food is so much better than your normal sports arena food! Where else can you get bacon on a stick? They do an outstanding job with making a CBJ game an experience for the entire family!

My first hockey game and I had a good time. Wasnt a fan my seats (ive got a coke bottle frame lol so i had to squeeze into my seat) but the hockey game didnt disappoint me at all.

I recently went to my 1st Blue Jackets game. Its not that I'm not a fan. I love hockey. But I'm still a bit hurt that they took away my Columbus Chill and replaced it with a team that keeps losing and requires you to pay an arm and a leg if you want decent seats. I'm starting to sound like an old, whinging nag, but it was nice to be able to spend $10 for seats behind the goal, snacks, and parking for the Chill. That's what fostered my love for the game. At 1st it was just something to do with my friends, but then I really got into it. My 1st Blue Jackets game cost me upward of $50 to sit high up with a bottle of water and a 4 block walk from where I was able to find (and afford) parking. It just seems to me that while its nice to have a professional level hockey team in Columbus, they are bound and determined to alienate their fans. Even people I talked to at the Hockey Hall of Fame said that Columbus just doesn't have a team we can truly call our own yet. Right now they just seem like they're visiting...

Featured events throughout the season include dime-a-dog nights (picture people eating 10 cent hotdogs!), several typical daytime "Businessman Special" games, and various other special events. The park has been known to have fireworks. One of my absolute favorite features of this ballpark, is along the second baseline. That part of the field has "windows" in the brick wall at the street level, whereby individuals who want to see the game, but for whatever reason don't have a ticket can watch the whole thing unfold from the sidewalk. For individuals who can't acquire tickets for themselves or their children this is a wonderful feature, whereby they can still enjoy a professional baseball game. Hats off to the Clippers organization for incorporating this thoughtful design into their facility. Ample parking is close by. And usually this parking fairly reasonably priced. Be aware that the hockey arena and the soccer stadium are both close by, as well as other entertainment venues. In the height of summer, this can sometimes make for a very busy entertainment district. So be sure and check the schedule of what's going on at the other venues, You may need some extra time to arrive and navigate your way to the ballpark. While it was ultimately a loss for the Clippers, it was great to see several homeruns hit out of the park by our team, keeping it exciting. We look forward to catching another game sometime.

The season ticket department sent out a email blast about a new section they were opening and to place a deposit to get the first opportunity to pick seats. I bit, and figured I'd think it over to see if we even wanted season tickets and to learn about the pricing. It was a $1,000 deposit. After hearing the price was approximately $18,000, and considering our likely use of the tickets, we decided to pass. I contacted our sales rep and he informed us that it was a non- refundable deposit. I was not aware of that at the time I placed the deposit. He said that was their policy and I could pound salt. At no time when making the deposit did it say it was non-refundable. I asked him for the person in-charge of this decision and he declined to give me any names. He said I could send an email to the general ticket office, but he asured me they would tell me "too bad". I looked at the email blast they had sent and the only place it said non- refundable deposit was at the very bottom of the email. It was a long salesy email. My bad for logically thinking a deposit is something you place and if you don't move forward they refund the amount. My opinion of the sales office is that they are a bunch of slick talking snake salesmen, with no concious of doing business with any ethics what-so-ever.

It was the third MLS Cup Final hosted by Columbus' Mapfre Stadium. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only about 1,500 attended the game. The stadium's current capacity for soccer games is 19,968. A new Columbus Crew stadium is currently under construction and nearing completion. Mapfre Stadium will eventually be converted into the team's training facility. In 2020, Columbus was led offensively by the trio of American forward Gyasi Zardes (15 goals), Portuguese midfielder Pedro Santos (8), and Argentine midfielder Lucas Zelarayan (8). No more than a year after signing with Columbus did Zelarayan earn the MLS Newcomer of the Year and MLS Cup MVP 2020 awards. In the championship match, he scored two goals and assisted on the other. The 2020 Cup was actually Columbus' second championship. They won their first in 2008. Then, they were led by another Argentine, forward Guillermo Barros Schelotto. Schelotto was both MLS regular season and Cup MVP that season. Presently, the Crew are one of only seven MLS teams to have won the Cup more than once -- fairly rarefied air. In addition to winning two Cups, the team also has three Supporters' Shields (best regular season record). Only two teams have more Shields: DC United and the LA Galaxy. It's safe to say the Crew have been one of the better-performing teams in MLS history to date. The Crew are one of MLS' founding members. They were one of the 10 original teams to play in the league's inaugural season in 1996. Mapfre Stadium, then known as Columbus Crew Stadium, didn't open until 1999 so the Crew first played games at Ohio Stadium, home of the Ohio State University Buckeyes college football team. It's similar to how the Atlanta United started out playing at Bobby Dodd Stadium, home of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

For a…read more7:30pm primetime game in early October, I got to watch the defending national champion and #1 ranked Buckeyes play against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Just standing in front of Ohio Stadium was a surreal feeling. Affectionately known as "The Horseshoe", it is an iconic landmark in college football. Opened in 1922, fast forward 100 years later and the stadium is still in terrific condition. Capacity says 102,780 yet towards the end of the 3rd quarter, an announcement was made over the loudspeakers that attendance reached 105,000 for this game. Just an incredible number! It's like...the entire city of Columbus, OH comes together and celebrates Ohio State football and their rich heritage and gridiron success on Saturday gamedays. I purchased my ticket about 1 week ahead of time on TickPick and paid $150 (all included) for a seat in Section 26C and Row 40, near the top of the visiting side stands. The seat was parallel to the 30-yard line and views were unobstructed. I had no complaints about sitting too high up. My only issue was the timing of buying my ticket. When re-checking prices the day of the game, I realized had I waited and done more price discovery, similar seats in my section were going for just $40. Ouch! I paid way too much, lol. But still, for being a lifelong college football fan, no real price mattered in the end. It's about having memories that are priceless. In fact, just the week prior to this Ohio State game, I attended a "Whiteout Game" at Penn State and paid $450 for a seat. Ohio Stadium allows fans to enter through the gates 2 full hours before kickoff. During that time, I walked around the exterior of the stadium. My best photos came from the backside entrance near the tennis courts. Yeah, if you walk towards the endzone side of "the horseshoe", you'll discover tennis courts and if you keep walking behind the courts, you'll notice Ohio Stadium in the background and in my opinion, it's worthy of a picture. Off to the side of the tennis courts is a cool Ohio Statue statue that fans were taking photos in front of. It said..."The Incomparable Script Ohio, Established 1936". For this 7:30pm game, Ohio State's team entrance onto the field was electric. Fireworks shot out from behind the scoreboard like a cannon and made for an incredibly colorful display in the sky with the fading sunset. Every time Ohio State scored a touchdown, more shooting fireworks lit up the night. Also behind the stadium scoreboard were 2 residential towers lit up in red. Not sure if these red towers shine every evening or just for Ohio State games. It was cool looking nonetheless. Ohio State dominated the game from start to finish. They defeated Minnesota 42 -3, so by the time the 4th quarter started, half the stadium was empty. I stayed until the end regardless. Who knows when I'll be able to return to Columbus for another game, so I savored every moment. Finally, I must give total credit to Ohio State's band. They were fantastic. Throughout the game they played the school's signature song..."Hang On Sloopy", a tradition since 1965 made famous by The McCoys. After the game was completed, the band continued playing Hang On Sloopy as they marched out of Ohio Stadium, ending another Ohio State game in classic fashion. Overall, it was a true joy to visit Ohio Stadium and watch the Buckeyes play football in primetime. Long been a To-Do List sports goal of mine, sitting beside 105,000 fans rooting for Ohio State was an indescribable feeling that every college football fan should experience. Thanks for having me Buckeyes.
