Purchased two high-end Onyx Boulders from Colorado Materials. Couldn't find them anywhere else after checking Pioneer and other local landscape material yards. Since I'm a rock collector too, I appreciate the beauty and value of their Onyx and Obsidian decorative boulders. They were delivered and placed in my front yard by Javier yesterday 7/17/25. Javier did an amazing job-- he was considerate of his skid steer fork lift in terms of damaging our grass, plants, sprinkler heads, and lawn. He had me lay quarter inch plywood on the lawn for him to drive over. When it came to a forsythia plant that was right in his path to place one of the boulders behind it, he had me hold the branches upright close to its center so it would fit between his two fork extensions and not be harmed. Then once in place, he tweaked the position of both boulders using one of the fork extensions to push one side of the boulder furrther back, bringing the other side more to the front. It was masterful to watch him do this. As you can see from the attached photo, our Onyx boulders are beautful, adding much to our landscape. Couldn't be happier!! read more

Colorado Materials has a great selection, good prices and friendly service. This is the exactly the kind of family operated local business that I love to support. read more

The men working the front counter are rude and act entitled. The drivers and contractors that deliver have been great. read more

We've been going to Colorado Materials for years for our landscaping business, Painted Plains, and have had nothing but great experiences! Everyone there is so friendly and helpful, and we are pleased with their prices. They always have what we need and we recommend them to all our clients and friends! read more

Everyone was very friendly and helpful when I needed materials for my backyard. The prices were great and the delivery guys were easy to work with. We will definitely be buying from them again. read more

I ordered 2 yards of potting soil mix for my raised beds. What I got was a clay and plastic filled pile of low quality dirt that I regret purchasing. There was tarp, hard plastic, soft plastic and large rocks in the soil and wish I could have inspected it more closely. After the recent rains this soil has compacted and poorly drains. I should have amended it before filling and stuck with my mistake, but I do know I'll never order soil from here again because it was cheaper than A1. read more

UPDATE to my first review. Colorado Materials, Inc stands behind their product. Employees are professional, and genuine practicing honest workmanship. Emil and Fernando contacted us after posting the original review. In all fairness I should have phoned them directly before posting the first review. They took care of the issues we experienced providing us with favorable results. read more

Came in for some dirt & leslie pointed me the way and got me in & out highly recommend colorado material

Great people, from the front desk to the yard to the drivers: helpful, friendly, polite, amusing, strong and willing to help us get the stuff (cedar mulch, Colorado flagstones) to make our yard look better. read more

This was my first time ordering from them per a recommendation. I will not even go into the myriad setbacks, inconsistencies, and other issues I have experienced with this company, but will choose to focus on the company's "planter's mix". I ordered 3 cubic yards of planter's mix, spent 5 days hauling and pouring it into my raised garden beds, only to discover that it contains an unacceptably high amount of sand and pea gravel. All of my previously healthy plants have since died! Even as a novice gardener, I know that the amount of sand in their mix could not possibly be correct. Because I do not have a hard copy of the receipt from less than a month ago, they offered to give me more of the same dirt to top off the garden beds. I am extremely disappointed. read more

I may be a little biased in writing this review, but so be it. Colorado Materials a great locally owned company for all landscape hardgood needs. Chris and Megan own and run it, and they have surrounded themselves with a great staff. Their staff is freindly and helpful and are willing to do what they can for their customers. I (along with my company) can't be more grateful for everything that they have done for us. Thanks Chris, Megan, and everyone else for making my job just a little bit easier! You guys are amazing and we couldn't make things work with out your help!!! read more

Greatly locally owed company, truly know what customer service is, which is rare. On a day they happen to not technically be open where more than helpful on the phone, and even had us come in to explain options to us. Bonus is that compared to the big boys around (Pioneer) prices are better, and delivery costs are significantly lower. Feel free to shop around, you will be back here, mom and pop shops are back! read more

It is impossible to get service in this place! Some burly rude lady seemed to grunt at customers and not want to help. My husband and I went in there to buy materials for our front and backyard landscape. The lady behind the counter acted like she was taking orders at a truck stop grunting and acting all disrespectful like she was doing us a big favor. After having her treat us like we were clueless idiots we finally went back to the big box stores. We totally wanted to support a local Longmont business and buy in bulk. I'm sad to see that we weren't the only customers that were put off by them. read more

Buyer beware. We ordered over $600 of gorilla hair mulch to put down in our yard. When it was dumped the mulch was mixed with stone and sludge from the previous truck load. Apparently they didn't bother taking the time to make sure the prior material was removed from the bed of the truck. We called and left a message for a manager to call us back regarding what happened and never received a call. My hunch is that they cater to contractors and not the general public. Talk about horrible customer service. This will be the last time we use them. read more

Colorado Materials has been our "go-to" place for landscaping supplies for the last 12 years or so. We have purchased flagstone, moss boulders, earth crystals and various kinds of gravel. They have beautiful displays of different ideas and their space has really improved over the years. We recently bought three truckloads of pea gravel and the first load had an error on the weight so we were overcharged. When we went back for the 2nd load the error was promptly found and refunded. For unique ideas or good, old fashioned rock this place is awesome! read more

Wow the gal that answered the phone was very unprofessional. She just said "yep" to their pricing and hung up.... really? Wont be buying from here. read more

These guys are good, huge variety of materials, good pricing for contractors, totally fair with the way they treat repeat customers. Walk in and just act like you know what you're doing, even if you don't. read more

Good prices, quick delivery, not super friendly or helpful. And I have to continue writing to make this a complete "review" so I guess, I'll tell you about the 10% off coupon they have on their website, don't forget that! read more

Colorado materials had an 8 ton delivery of rock coming to me between noon and three, it did not show up. I called and they said they were just about to call me. The semi broke down with the load to the yard and could not deliver until the next day. I had several people lined up to help move the rock and lost around 200$ due to the inconvenience . They said they would give me a 10percent discount, which amounted to about 50$. I told them I lost way more than that and asked for a ten ton delivery instead which was about 20$ more than the ten percent. They refused and told me the load would come the next day and basically hung up on me when I tried to get a time for the load. I cancelled my order and would not recommend a company that would quibble over 20$ when it was their mistake. read more

Unethical hidden charges In general Colorado Materials provided good service. However, I was very disappointed to encounter their unethical hidden charges. When my materials were delivered there was an extra $64 charge that was never mentioned. In questioning the delivery person we found out that they were charging us an extra $64 for the pallets. The delivery person assured us that we would get the $64 back if we returned the pallets. When we returned the pallets we were told that it is company policy to keep a fee for each pallet. When I expressed my displeasure for the hidden charges I was treated very rudely by Fernando, who seemed to be one of the lead people in the office. It is hard to have confidence in an organization that has such poor regard for good business practices and treatment of customers. read more

Something told me a debacle was on the horizon with this company. On the phone, I got what I believed to be some valid answers on my questions for materials on delivery fees. In the store, I received very different feedback from a young man that was working harder on the chew in his mouth than helping me understand my "new" options. I should have walked out, but I instead paid 95 dollars for materials in the quantity that is well short of completion. There is no way in heck that I will return to these folks. Beware of their inconsistent answers and poor service. read more

They're NOT the only game in town, though they're the only one I've used personally. I buy just a yard or two at a time, and yes, sometimes it gets busy, and they have to change to a small bucket on the loader, but I've always been loaded without undue delay. The money I save buying compost (they've got some GREAT DAIRY COMPOSTS!) and mulch in bulk has more than made up for any wait I've had to occasionally endure. On a busy day (think Saturday in the summer) it can be a madhouse in the yard. And yet, one time when I over-ordered, and was set to be loaded with too much material for my poor little utility trailer, the guy in the loader stopped after the first yard and suggested I come back for the second yard later. My trailer and I thanked him, and the office was able to deal elegantly with the bizarre two-part pickup on a single ticket. That little piece of observation and caring saved me a busted trailer (and maybe a busted transmission too). read more

Between Ryan, and Jason you couldn't ask for any less professionalism. Customer service would have been better if neither spoke English. Trying to get an issue resolved that was originally caused by a counter salesman overpromising on delivery was greeted by attempts to upcharge and turn what would be 1 delivery, into 2 or potentially 3. Charging for each none the less. Thumbs up fellas. fabulous way to conduct business! read more

Extremely poor customer service. On two separate occasions I waited over 25 minute for someone to load up a 1/2 ton of granite gravel. Wasn't busy either time but they are the only game in town so they don't care. It appears if you have a small order they would rather you go somewhere else. I will get all future materials from Pioneer Sand and Gravel even though they are 15 miles out of town. read more

Called them twice for breeze. Their price was much better than the other places I called, including delivery, and both times they got it to me on the same day. read more

I have had a great experience working with these guys. My orders are for my use in a relatively small yard and they have been absolutely prompt with deliveries, courteous, and professional. They have a great selection and make it easy to pick up rock yourself even in my case, which is bucket by bucket. read more

Just had two large boulders delivered to my house. The bobcat used to deliver the boulders made deep impressions into my lawn. It cost me $120 to repair my lawn. I had to bring in dirt and new sod to repair my lawn. Called the owner, Chris, to talk to him about possibly sharing in the repair expense. The owner listed to my explanation and made a very rude comment to me and then hung up the phone. I have NEVER had an employee/owner of a business hang up on me. IF YOU CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE, FORGET THIS BUSINESS! read more
