My son and I went to Colony Grill in Portchester before a movie at AMC. We decided on Colony Grill because we wanted to keep watching a particular college game. We have been to the original in Stamford but have been regulars at a Riko's because it is more convenient. This was disappointing, but not because of the pizza. Here were the pros and cons. PRO --Pizza was great. We love bar pizza. --Ambiance was good--love the brick walls and feel --We sat at the bar and the bartenders were attentive and friendly. CON --Beer is served in 12 oz mugs at 16 oz pint prices --I ordered a martini. It was $19 and only 3/4 fulll. They did know how to fill espresso martinis to the top, but mine was precisely measured--and short --They could not get the game because they don't pay for the SEC channel --We ordered the hot oil pizza but it wasn't very spicy. I know Riko's keeps some hot oil behind the bar. I asked the bartender if he had hot oil and he handed me a small carafe. I poured some on. Then the surprise--the bill had $1.95 for a "side order of hot oil". It made us wonder if Colony has been purchased by private equity. Great pizza, but we will stick with Riko's. Pizza is just as good, they have wings and salads, they have 16 oz draft beer, they fill their martinis for less than $19, and they don't nickel and dime for a little extra hot oil. read more

We dig the pizzas here but they're super weird about me ordering the pizza ahead of time. We like to go to the movies and so we will frequently call ahead and then tell the waiter or host we ordered the pizza in advance so we aren't stuck waiting another 20 minutes for the pizza. This had never been a problem until recently when the hostess told me we "couldn't do that" and then after the manager overrode her decision, told us on our way out that they made a one time exception. I really don't understand why it's a big deal. We wait for a table. We tip. We drink. We're just trying to move things along. We order ahead at many other places and no one ever has made an issue out of it. Unfortunately no one at CG could explain why we can't phone in the pizza order ahead of time for in-house dining. After reading Ken's reply, I feel that I should have pointed out that this isn't something I would do on a busy Friday or Saturday night. I have worked in many restaurants. We generally go to the movies and order our pizza on Tuesday nights. We came to PC to see a movie and Bartaco had too long a wait so we came here instead. Fail. One star for service. One star for location and atmosphere. Our server was very nice and did a great job of explaining the menu as we came in totally blind. The space was nice. We sat outside and it was very enjoyable. But that's where it ends. The pizza was bad. Zero, and I mean zero, flavor. The dough was bland. The sauce was bland. The cheese was bland. The only flavor was the bacon in my mushroom and bacon pizza. My daughter had bell peppers and sausage and said that was also flavorless. My husband is watching his diet and he orders the salad pizza with chicken. It is the saddest pizza I've seen in my life. I have been wanting to try this place for a while. Had read some mixed reviews but figured we'd give it try given the reputation for the hot oil pie. We tried that, a regular cheese pie, and a sausage and onion which was the favorite. The pizza crust is super thin and nothing really special though it somehow managed to grow on us as we ate more. I remember liking the last pizza I got and I don't know if the margherita was worse, the same or better but they are pretty equal as far as I remember. Would add a half a star if I could! I can't believe I forgot to review this place. We were here visiting hubby and he suggested this place for lunch. We ordered three pizzas, regular, bacon and sausage. We sat inside which had was pretty large. Outside overlooks the water. The waitress was very friendly and got our drinks right away. The pizza came out pretty quickly. The crust was nice and thin. There is hot oil and one pepper that sits right in the middle called the stinger. I'm not sure the oil adds much but the stinger is spicy. The pizza is crispy, nicely charred on the bottom. The bacon added a nice texture and salt to the pizza. The sausage was ok and my least favorite was the plain stinger pizza. Afterwards you can take a walk along the water walking off all that fat. read more

Never been a fan of this place but wife was, until last night. Our pizzas were given to the wrong table, and after 2 full minutes of them being breathed on by strangers they were finally given to us. We told them we'd prefer new ones. Not a problem. Pizzas came out extremely well done, and after an hour of waiting we just decided to deal with it. Pizzas had the crunch of saltine crackers, cheese had transformed into another substance, and needless to say every bite was a dry mouthful of crumbs. Staff is attentive enough, but when you literally only have pizza on your menu, you'd expect them to master it. Thankfully I won't have to suffer through another CG experience. read more

I absolutely love colony but the past few times I have been to the Port Chester location I have been disappointed. I like my pizza well done and they never make it well done when I ask. It always comes out very "doughy" and it's very disappointing. Not sure what is going on, but hopefully just a one off because colony is one of my favorite pizza places. read more

Leaving a 5-star review for a dinner that kind of went sideways. Things happen, especially when busy and packed. Everyone was very nice. The waiter got the manger immediately when we told him what was wrong. She was so sincere and took care of everything. We are regulars here but if we weren't I'd definitely come back just because the service was so good. Stuff happens in the kitchen - don't take it out on the staff. Do love a neighborhood joint that's simple, just serves Beer & Pizza. If you are getting food here, eat it at the bar, don't order takeout. Came to Colony Grill to catch up with a friend from high school. Lots of parking in the front of the restaurant. Inside, there is a strong patriotic theme with lots of photos of service folks. Menu is kind of limited to pizza. Food came out pretty quickly after putting in our order. Pizzas are thin crust. I really enjoyed all three kinds we got. We stop into various locations of Colony Grill a few times a year on the commute between NY and VT. The Port Chester location was excellent today. Food: Salad pizza with hot oil and an onion pie. I wish more places had the option to just throw a salad on top of pizza. There's an alchemy that happens when combining the hot, cheesy pizza and spicy hot oil with the cool crunch of salad. The onion pie was the best version of itself. Service: We sat at the bar so that we could watch football. Even though the Jets and the Giants were playing at the time, the bartender did us a solid and put the Patriots game on the screen near us. He was attentive, helpful and friendly. Who ever thought my Bronx Italian wife would think her favorite pizzeria with Connecticut roots would be a place with a shamrock on its logo...but it's true. Even when you live two blocks from the best pizzeria north of Arthur Avenue in the Bronx...Sal's...sometimes you want a break for traditional pizza, and Colony is the place to go. We had both the Signature Salad Pizza and the Summer White...with additional tomato and cheese...and they were tremendous. I just hope they offer Summer White after summer is over. We wanted to visit Colony since it first opened, but the wait time was too much when we tried. We went on a weekend afternoon and got right in on the outdoor porch overlooking the river. Service was great and they had Pepsi which is a once a year weakness for me. Menu is pizza only, the only salad is a pizza salad. We had a salad with half salad and half mushroom/meatball which was very good. The meatballs seemed to be unseasoned though and could have used a little more seasoning. I thought this was the WORST pizza on God's Green Earth. I was not aware before coming here that this is a "CT Style" ie thin-crust pizza place. I ordered takeout so I can't speak to the dine-in experience. The pizza, however, was HORRIBLE. Paper-thin crust, almost no sauce, almost no cheese. Like if an anorexic person tried to make a pizza. Ate an entire 10" pie and still wasn't full because it's SO light and virtually flavorless. You can get a better, more filing slice of pizza for half the price at any other pizza place. Grocery store frozen pizza is better. I'm not usually this harsh in my reviews but this was an insult to pizza everywhere! read more
