Colony Builders has done two major jobs for us over the past two years. The quality and workmanship is excellent. The extension to our back patio looks like it was built into the house when it was originally constructed. Communication was excellent. Speed of completion was very good. Contractors cleaned up after themselves. Quality of the work, excellent. Great value for the money, but understand they will not be the cheapest or the most expensive. read more

I wanted a screened in patio added to my home, I wasn't sure about the cost or what it would require to complete the work. Ali came out to give me a quote and every concern I had ( and they were many) he addressed. I gave him the job and I am so happy I did. My patio is better than I ever expected. The workmanship is superb. It is absolutely beautiful and we are so proud of our patio. The only thing is that the patio was completed two years ago and I am just now writing this review. I am sorry for that, I guess I was to busy relaxing on my patio. I have had several projects at my home with contractors, some were good, but none were better than Colony Builders. Colony Builders are the best in the business! Our house was impacted by the Watson Grinding Explosion and the damages were severe as we are located 800 feet away. We had blown out windows structural damage, collapsing ceilings, etc. Once we decided to hire Colony Builders they started the next week! We did a complete remodel, replacing the entire house with siding, all the windows, all the carpet with laminate including our staircase, our deck & fence in the back yard and tore down our two door garage to make one large automatic one. The crews that came out we're hardworking and communicated with us every step of the way. Our repairs began on April 16th and finished within 2 short months on June 2nd!!! A complete remodel and they worked diligently to get us back to our house as soon as possible. Long story short HIRE THEM! You'll be so happy with the end result. I received a call from Colony Builders phone number 713-272-6224 about window replacement.  I informed her that I would like to wait until my contractor starts before having someone come out to do a quote.  She got upset and told me that she has to pay $200. each time someone says they are not interested. I actually didn't say I wasn't interested, but wanted to amend timing.  This was VERY rude and unprofessional.  I will be sure to NOT do business with Colony builders and prefer not to hear about the contract she has with home advisor and what her payments are!  Thank you for your attention to this matter read more

They damaged our house throughout the process. Most of the windows were detached from the house, the workers left chicken bones and soda cans in the front and backyard, they left the roof open over night and it rained, and the generator that they used to do the work blew out our electricity. We were highly dissatisfied and will NEVER do work again with Colony Builders. If you are reading this, I advise you to do the same. In the end, we sold the house due to the problems afterwards. Oh yes, and they took away our flood light outside on the corner of the house! The contractor would only check on the work if we contacted them if there was a problem. We were referred to Colony Builders by a close friend for a patio cover. She had them over to her home for an estimate and seemed pleased. We contacted them and they immediately came by to provide us with an estimate. The estimate was within the cost of two other companies that we contacted. We went with Colony because they were providing a few extra things that the other companies were not. We signed the contract on March 9, 2018. Roughly 3 weeks later, we finally got to the next step of having the architect take pictures for the official plans. Then we waited another three weeks for approval of the plans, submission to the HOA and submission to the COH for a permit. Finally the crew comes to erect the two pillars/post. The first two attempts failed COH inspections; they were not the correct depth and the rebar wasn't tied correctly based on the architect's plans. That process last almost a week. By this time, we've contacted Colony's office 2 to 3 times about these numerous interruptions. We were assured that it would be corrected and the project manager would be in touch. The first project manager never showed up nor contacted us. The inspection passes and the framing begins. The guy is a decent framer but, apparently, has more than one project going on. He would sleep in his van, leave early and come late...rarely work a full day. Time for the structural inspection. Wait again...it passes. The initial electrical work is completed and another inspection...it passes. I must add, several of the inspections were scheduled by me not by Colony and I have been in contact with them throughout. Without me making these phone calls for inspections my project could have lasted another 2 to 3 weeks. The ceiling is finally closed in and the final pieces are put together. We were assigned another project manager Sam. He eased most of my frustrations and got the ball rolling again to get our patio moving toward completion. The framer completed his job and we noticed excessive amounts of caulk on many areas. We pointed it out and was told it was that way because "it was Hardi and not wood." Totally unacceptable! The shingles where the roof was tied in had a bulge where the shingles didn't lay flat. The ceiling was stained and the final electrical work was completed without any other issues. Sam comes out again and we point out the issues and incomplete work. The pillars/post will need to be redone because of the excess caulk, the roof bulge and the areas of wood (instead of Hardi) and paint overspray on the new windows. My husband and Sam did another walk around (final inspection) and the last payment was made on May 25, 2018. After several incidents and mistakes, I am 95% satisfied with my patio from Colony Builders. Cons: -lack of communication between Colony, the Customer and contractors. -Contractors should do only what they are experienced in. Where do I start ? Poor management and craftsmanship First day the crew leader Michael comes without proper material and works 1/2 days on top they were not even going to cover up the exposed are until I asked them to our contract was signed months ago plenty of time to order the materials no excuse ! We asked to replace all insulation / two windows sliding/ paint/ caulk / replace any rotted wood / gutters / osb / trim/big job not cheap here what wrong 1. Part of the house insulation not replace 2. Insulation in our attic looks like crap all cut up and taped/ you are able to see daylight and some just not even hanging up laying down 3.osb board was not fully replaced lucky I was here I had to take pictures sent them to Madhi who we signed the contract 4.osb board only a few nails was use 5. Windows didn't had a drip edge again I had to contact Madhi for this 6. Windows was not closing properly again contact Madhi and it was fixed 7. Trim around an arch window poorly done 8. The painting poor many missed spots 9. Caulking was only on new sliding per Madhi it was old and new sliding again I had to contact them 10. They installed wood scaffolding to work on second floor and NAILED into our new roof who in the hell does this !!!!!! And damage many roof shingles edges 11. Huge grabs between sliding and house frame and all they did patching with new sliding knowing it was fully nailed down 12. Our yard part of it fully damaged with there equipment and materials Crew leader Michael forgot we had a ring camera We were able to see everything Omg and sent Madhi a copy of it and he kept making excuses from day one we the issues we were encountering I had to take off from work to ensure the job was done correctly what a nightmare with these guys and the president Ali came by as well we pointed out all of the problems and himself was well making excuses too after all we pointed out and Ali said he will make it right has yet done so still waiting! We asked to not have the same crew come back to fix the problems I guess that's their best crew they need a well skilled foreman or project manager to oversee the job and proper equipment not homemade Oh I almost forgot the design we asked for in the front of our house was totally different Madhi failed to follow up with the crew leader Michael about the design so we just let it go we wanted them gone already What a nightmare Am sure big construction company can afford to have proper well skilled crew and equipment and of course a well trained foreman or a project manager to oversee on daily basis Never again very disappointing read more

Replaced second floor siding and window trims. Very professional job at a fair price. They sealed with caulk and masked everything prior to paint. Used all name brand materials and Sherwin Williams top paint. Good detailing and will certainly have them for patio extensions etc. read more

Our patio is beautiful. We love the finished product, HOWEVER, when the electrician came out to install the lights, we noticed after they left that one of the ceiling fans didn't work. This was in Nov-Dec 2018. The PM, Sam, told us we'd have an electrician out immediately to install a new fan. They'd set an appointment and no one would show. This happened over and over. FIVE months later, the electrician finally showed up and replaced our fan. On the day they replaced our fan, the electrician backed into our garage denting our gutter so bad that water doesn't flow out of it properly anymore. We have this on video. It is now May 8, 2019 and we have gotten the same run around we received regarding the fan. It sucks to see a company tarnish their awesome work by lacking the ability to fix a simple issue in a timely manner. read more

My strong advice will be to stay away from this company and find another vendor if you want the warranty to be honored. We built our covered patio from them and first had difficulties in getting it completed in time as the workers will promise but will not show up and later when I talked to them I was told that Ali asked them to work some other place. They have subcontractors who they assign randomly to different jobs. Ali and his company are the worst communicators in the world. You can leave voicemails and send text messages and if you have paid them the full amount, they will not return the phone call or text messages. As a vendor even if you are not going to take care of the issue, just for human courtesy at least respond to multiple calls and say that you will not honor the warranty you promised while getting the business. We have a crack developed on the tiles within a warranty period of one year. I sent pictures/videos to them but Colony builders have neither addressed the issue nor have responded to my numerous requests. Having spent more than $30 K with them, I strongly feel we would have been better off going with another vendor. I have shared my feedback with my neighbors who wanted to build a patio but felt my responsibility to share it with everybody out there after waiting for 7 months for Colony builders to respond to my numerous messages. I just hope this helps all the people looking out for a contractor to build their dream patio or remodeling their house. read more

Wow! Our third time using Colony and they really out did it. This was our first remodel since buying the house in 1989. Ali took care u of us. Hector was outstanding on the new cabinetry. Built them just like we wanted and added awesome accents. Javier and crew did a stand out job on stains. I'm not usually one that likes dark woods but mine are beautiful. Colony Builders - Remodel from 1965 to current - General Contractors Near Me - Houston, Texas

I want to give Colony Builders a Zero rating! I didn't know they were still in business - that's how bad they did the remodel at our Katy home in 1994!!! We had an exterior patio enclosed and then expanded our master bathroom. During the first year, the roof over the new room constantly leaked until they FINALLY got it corrected. But we had only a 1 year warranty on the entire project, so by the time other defects began showing up, it was past warranty period. A year after the work was completed (it took them only 3 months to do the entire job), my husband got seriously ill. That was in 1995. He passed away in March 2000. Meanwhile, the problems with the remodel began to show up in late 1995. First the shower in the master bathroom began to mold and the tiles began to crack and then the step into the shower actually collapsed - caved in!!! Apparently, Colony did not use the right kind of backer board for the shower! To say nothing about how poorly the shower drained. Also, they did not level the floor properly, as there are huge bumps everywhere under the tile! Then, in the room addition, the back wall was made into a walk-in closet. Whatever kind of sheetrock they used on those walls was terribly cheap, because it has crumbled in the corners and I've had to attempt to repair it myself! Since my husband's death, it's all I can do to afford to feed myself and my pups - and I did manage to pay off the 10 year note I had for this Colony remodeling job and paid off the mortgage, a few years ago - but as a senior citizen and a veteran, it's hard to keep up with this. The new room addition also has suffered extensive water damage due to poor construction over the past 27 years. Water had been able to get in through the poorly installed doors and windows. In fact, the windows had actually been put in backwards AND upside down!!! And there had NOT been a header put over the French doors to the outside, so they sagged. And the doggy door they installed leaked like a sieve, flooding the room every time it rained. Plus, water got behind the vinyl siding they had installed and caused wood rot and lead to some termites. Over time, I've slowly had to repair all of this on my own. I've had Lowe's put in new doors and windows, new hardiplank siding, replace the doggy door and the rotted studs and sheetrock. And this week, I am replacing yet another problem that is a result of Colony's poor construction. When they had put the roof on my house , they had tied in the existing roof with the new addition roof, and, as I said, it had leaked for nearly a year before it was repaired by them. That had lead to water damage in the wall directly under that leaking area which tempted termites. And it's also close to where the leaking doors had been. So all of the water and termite damage has caused enough rot over time that I am now having to replace 2X4s and sheetrock again. Yes, I have treated for termites. Yes, I think I have solved the water problems. But, I have battled problems with this new room almost since it was built. There was even the evening when I was lying in bed and could see the light from my exterior lights shining through the corner between the two walls where they had not properly sealed the house. God only knows what critters were able to get into that wall before I sealed it up myself! I am furious that my late husband and I spent so much hard-earned money to have this work done to our home. It has been a nightmare for me to try to keep up with it ever since his passing. And my comment to anyone who is considering using Colony Builders for work on their home....THINK LONG AND HARD FIRST! We were shocked when we discovered one day that they had a painter doing our electrical work because the electrician had not shown up for work that day! That may explain a lot! They broke a lot of our possessions while moving them from room to room. They left their trash strewn around our yard every day. And one night, they left our roof open to a rainstorm instead of covering it with a tarp. We had a waterfall coming down the entire length of our home that night and through all of our A/C vents, which had to be replaced. Maybe they have gotten better at their work over the past 27 years. I see their owner is the same person it was in 1994. So who knows. Just be VERY careful. read more

I want to talk about my experience with Colony Builders. It was not a good experience. First off, I went through 2 Project Managers before the job started and then a 3rd into the project. The last Project Manager only showed up when it was time to collect a check. I spoke to him about my cable running along the back side of the wall, that it needs to go behind the wall, it didn't happen. Now I am stuck with the wire outside the wall on a new patio. They painted the patio the wrong color, never asked what color I wanted it. They were supposed to build a 6/12 pitch roof, I got a 12/12 pitch in which I had to close the gable in just so I didn't get water against my house. Was not the pitch I approved. The initial inspection failed on two items regarding the roof support. The stone layers put a cracked stone which I guess they thought was acceptable. The gutter guys drilled through my new hardie trim in 3 spots. The redirected vent through the new roof was not sealed properly and water got into my house. Ruined the sheet rock on my ceiling and wall. They repaired it but the paint keeps cracking, already painted twice and still cracking. My patio door does not close properly now because of the new load on the roof may have affected the door framing, never offered to fix it. I had to tell them the first three days to clean up their mess after the days end, took me three times before they started doing it. Zero pride with the workers that were framing it. Communication is poor with this company and the PM heard me but did not listen when we discussed how I wanted things. The owner of the company came out after the job was done to collect money and I tried to voice all my concerns about the shortfalls and experience I had, but he was more determined to collect his money. The patio did come out nice, but it was like going through a Hurricane to get there. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this company to anyone. They did a beautiful job constructing a cover for my patio and handled the whole process, from submitting the plans to the Homeowner's Association to installing the gutters! The finished product looks like a seamless extension of my home. It was a very refreshing experience to know that the project was in good hands! Also, when I asked Ali to come back to provide a price to screen in my porch, I was real pleased with the quote. Was not impressed with Colony Builders at all and all we had them do was come out to our home for an estimate. We are looking at doing 3 projects in our home. These 3 projects will probably end up running us 150K. At that kind of money, I would think, or at least expect a little effort put forward from the gentleman that came out to meet with us. If you know EXACTLY what you want, they MAY be the company for you. I am not sure as I do not have any build out experience with them. However trying to get any design suggestions out of the salesman was like pulling teeth. I was told over and over, "it's up to you mamn". And I would say, "I realize that, but you are the professional and have seen tons of jobs like this one, what would you recommend." They had NOOOO recommendations whatsoever.
