I've eaten steak in many different places and was excited to try it when I moved to PB. This is probably the best steak that I've had the pleasure of eating. I did move up north and still tell friends about this place. If I ever come to visit, I'll be back. The steak was cooked the exact way that I liked. The apricot brandy sauce was also superb. Called on a last minute request as we were driving through on the way to Little Rock. Staff was very kind to work our party of 5 in on a busy night. Food was superb only topped by the staff! Although I grew up in Pine Bluff, my first visit to Colonial Steak House was on March 30, 2012. It was well worth the wait! Colonial Steak House is Pine Bluff's only really nice restaurant. The only other steak house is Bonanza, and the food there is no comparison. Upon arriving at Colonial Steak House, I was greeted (as are all guests) with big smiles and a welcoming atmosphere. It was a little before 7 pm on a Friday night when I walked through the door. There was a nice European feel about the whole dining experience, which left me very relaxed and never being rushed. The servers were very attentive, making sure I had plenty of ice tea and anything else I needed. At one point they even sang Happy Birthday to a couple of diners in a group sitting near me, bringing out a very yummy looking chocolate cake for the two. Throughout my dinner I could hear the servers asking the other patrons if their food was prepared the way it was ordered. Every answer was always a very happy "yes" and a reply about how wonderful the meal was. All of the customers were smiling and laughing, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. When you have happy customers then you know you're doing things right! As for the food I had, first of all I was using a gift certificate which stated that I had to purchase two entrees in order to get the $25.00 off, so that's what I did. It was for dine in only, and also you had to spend $35.00 or more. This was one of the old restaurant.com coupons/gift certificates that they are about to stop accepting, so I decided to use one I had. There's supposed to be an 18% gratuity added automatically as well. When I paid the ticket though, I found out they don't add the tip and are very lenient about the whole thing. You just don't find that anymore. Back to what I ordered. I ordered the French Onion Soup ($4.00) for starters. It was really very good. Actually, I was surprised at how good it was! Most American restaurants make their version way too salty. On one of my trips to Paris, I learned how to make French Onion Soup (they just call it Onion Soup there!), and have been picky about it ever since. Once you know how a certain food is supposed to taste then you always expect that same taste every single time. This soup had a nice browned top to it, and was steaming hot. I let it cool while I ate my salad (description to come) and drank some cold Sweet Tea (I am a Southern Girl, after all!). For my entree, I ordered the 10 oz Ribeye ($23.00), which I ordered "Rare" because I knew they would know how to cook it. All steaks are served with Toasted Garlic Bread (2 slices), Steaming Baked Potato, and Crisp Garden Salad. The bread seemed to be grilled, and had garlic salt and butter on it. It was crunchy where it should be crunchy and soft when it should be soft. The potato was baked perfectly and served with butter and sour cream (lots of both). The salad was actually a small salad bar where you made your own. There were plenty of choices, and my salad could have gone up against any salad served around! There were also several types of crackers available, along with salad dressings. Since I usually don't eat salad dressings, I didn't pay much attention to those. My salad included lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, shredded cheese, bacon pieces, bell peppers, and croutons. There were some other items on the bar, but again I forgot what else was there. I'll have to remember to get a photo of the salad bar next time. I love a good salad, and must say I was happy to eat the one I made that night. If someone wanted, cheese and bacon pieces were available on the salad bar to put on your baked potato, or your server would gladly bring them to you. I put a little bit of black pepper on mine, and enjoyed it with the butter and sour cream. Next time I'll have to remember the cheese and bacon pieces (yum!). As for my Ribeye, the steak was absolutely the best Ribeye I have ever eaten! The Colonial Steak House serves quality steak, that is very obvious. The seasonings were perfect. I stopped putting steak sauce on my steak many years ago, when I learned how to properly cook a good steak. The temperature was perfect. This was the biggest 10 oz steak I've ever seen! Everything about it was perfect. The taste was out of this world! You know when you take a bite of something and you want to make that "AaaMmmmmMmmm" noise as you're eating it because it's so extremely good? Well that's how good this steak was! The same person has been cooking the steaks for about 15-20 years there at Colonial Steak House. The second entree I had ordered to go. For this, I chose the Colonial House Special (16 oz Sirloin Strip) ($24.00) and a piece of the Black Bottom Pie ($4.00). This had to be the largest piece of steak I'd ever seen! It was HUGE! I also ordered this one Rare. It came with the Toasted Garlic Bread (2 slices) and Steamed Baked Potato. You'll have to ask for the salad or make your own. It was all great! read more

When in Rome... I was born and raised in Pine Bluff, and this is the only true steakhouse I have ever known to be here. There have been some in the past, but this is the only one that has survived. Anniversaries, proms, birthdays, and everything in between has been celebrated here. Now for the food. When in Rome...do as the locals do. Order the cotton blossoms, just do it. As other reviews mention, it is like a wonton, but much more fancy, and the cream cheese to crust ratio is tremendously better. The special thing is definitely the apricot dipping sauce. It is delicious, and is what you should order. If you are enticed by anything else, simply order two appetizers. The salad bar is normally fresh and tasty. Typical items are found here, the real specialty is the honey French dressing. It is different. It is sweet and tangy. It takes a little getting used to, but it is one of a kind, and how often will you be in the Bluff anyway? Just try it. If you don't like it you can always go back and get something boring. As for the steaks, they are all excellent. Occasionally the "doneness" can be off, but that is the exception. I would recommend the Prime Rib. This thing is huge! Think Fred Flintstone, and is normally cooked to the perfect temperature with a nice crust on the outside. It is served with the usual au jus sauce that is best suited for those bites that have a lot of meat in the middle that wasn't directly seasoned. Normally you get a horseradish that is a bit spicy, but tonight I didn't receive any. The go to side is the potatoes au gratin. Small dish of cheesy lumped potatoes that are baked to a nice tender bite. Steaks are served with bread that is very buttered and somewhat salty. Moderation in all things. Finally, dessert. If you have done the Prime Rib, you probably have no room left for anything sweet, but if you do, all options have been solid in the past. They do a special cake for anniversary nights, so don't miss that. This review is way too long, so I'll keep my closing thoughts brief. Go here, order what was suggested, and enjoy the building. The original Colonial Steakhouse burned down based upon legend, and ironically the current building is an old firehouse. The steaks were amazing and the homemade au gratin was superb. There was a lot of food. The prices, while a little high for the area of town I visited (dilapidated area), were well matched for the quality and quantity of food received. Its our first time to try this restaurant and ordered their prime rib and colonial special which is a sirloin steak. Our orders came with a salad bar and it tasted pretty okay. It was a little weird that we were served saltine biscuits and was served butter but I guess its their tradition its just that I was expecting bread with the butter and not saltine. Anyway they later served with the steaks and it was really good! We kinda had a problem waiting for our steaks as it took them about 45 minutes to serve it but when it arrived it was really big and thick and it was really good. It was cooked perfectly to medium. I got the potato gratin as sides and it was just okay. For dessert we ordered the cheesecake and it was simple but soo good! They gave us complimentary lemon tart to try and it was good as well! This place is pretty darned good for Pine Bluff. If it were anywhere else, though, it wouldn't be crap. It's known for its steaks, which are definitely nothing at which I'd turn up my nose. Salad bar is good. The little cream cheese filled wontons with apricot dipping sauce, which I've heard many people rave over, didn't send me over the edge. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life! The food was frozen food quality. I paid 17.50 for 6 cheese stuffed shrimp that tasted like freezer burn, it came along with a baked potatoe that had a heaping topping of sourcream, My daughter had a dried chicken breast and served with old french fries.....Now the service was sooooooo uncomfortable. A white lady spoke to us and took our order and the bus boys cleared our plates and made sure we were taken care of. The bus boys who were black were not allowed to address us only the white lady was......the food is overpriced and disgusting, waste of money! Not to mention the rude greeting we got at the door walking in, we don't serve past 8 but we will do it today.....are you kidding me ? It's money in your pocket!! This place is horrible! We came to Pine Bluff from Nashville to meet up with family from Dallas. The building had some interesting history and the owner was more than happy to share the story. The service was helpful and attentive and our water glasses never went dry. The salad bar was okay and the steaks were good but make sure you save room for the icebox lemon pie. It is "to die for" with homemade creamy whipped cream. (perfection) Everything seems to be prepared "in house" including the yummy garlic bread. If I am ever in Pine Bluff again I will surely make this place a destination. read more

Of all the steak places I've been to, I have never tasted a steak like the ribeye at CSH. I'm not sure what the cooking process was, but it looked and tasted as if it were aged and smoked then charbroiled to a perfect medium just as I ordered. The waitress asked if we wanted any steak sauce, which was totally unecessary because this steak is infused with juiciness and flavor right from the kitchen. The simple steamed baked potato loaded w/ butter and sourcream it came with was a bit pedestrian, but who cares - this ribeye was the bomb! The self-serve salad bar and appetizers were fine, but the steak is THE thing here. I finished the whole thing and relished every single bite with ease, which I can rarely do nowadays. I reserved this restaurant for a party of fifteen for my sisters 60th birthday. I was assured by Dana Gateley on January 17th that they would be able to accommodate my party. When we arrived we were greeted very pleasantly but soon after we were all seated, the group was addressed by a lady (I assumed it was Dana), making statements such as "they would have normally had a dedicated staff for a large party" and and food choices for a large party is normally chosen up front, and finally having an issue with separate checks. Since I do eat out often enough, I am well aware of certain requirements when a restaurant has to attend to a large party but it was not made aware to me upon making the reservation nor is it on the website. Also, I wasn't happy that the person kept addressing the group as a whole instead of speaking with the me the hostess of the party with any issues they were having. Secondly, the food was not good, while the birthday lady enjoyed her steak, my tilapia was under cooked and tasted like it had been prepared while still frozen, my other guests sent their shrimp scampi back and two other guest who ordered scallop was not pleased, the scallop was also under cooked and the asparagus was over cooked. As the night came to an end the same lady, approached me still complaining about the group size and inferring as if I just showed up to her restaurant with 15 people, I will not return to this restaurant ever again. read more

I read the reviews on this place and they were mixed. Mostly good, but a few negative comments. I'm going to be a middle of the ground person on this. First, the steak was good, nice flavor and almost cooked right. I asked for medium rare on the rare side and got medium rare on the medium side. The giant potato comes with butter and runny sour cream. Not too appetizing. The salad bar is straight out of the 70's and the dressing (bleu cheese) was runny and pretty flavorless. Overall, the place is very dated, there are some areas where wall paper is peeling off the walls and that wasn't too appealing, no pun intended. Small tables and old chairs (in good shape, just dated) made for an overall lack luster experience. I appreciate that people commented positively about the steaks, because they were good, my whole party enjoyed their dinner. But overall, the place needs a bit of sprucing up. Lose the carpet and put down reclaimed wood floor, they didn't have carpet in 1912 when they built it, why now, it's the grossest thing anyone ever put in a restaurant. New chairs, bigger tables a little paint color change and some updated art and it would be a nice place. Give the waiters/waitresses a uniform, don't just throw a white apron on them and have them look like they just walked in off the street and threw an apron on. The service was good, very attentive, never let your drink get too low. It would be nice to add a beer list to the wine list that is on the table or to the menu. All I got out of our server was that they had bottled beer, I had to just pick and hope they had what I ordered, so I took the safe route and ordered a domestic main stream beer. In this day and age with beer options being what they are, they need to jump on that. Beer goes with steak too, if you aren't a wine drinker, there are plenty of good brews that go with steak. It's not a bad place and there are not a lot of options in Pine Bluff, so if you are looking for a good meal and can look past the decor, go for it. I just think they could make some improvements, but with 15 years in the restaurant industry in my past, I tend to be a bit critical. read more

Six of us were driving through PB on our way to Warren for the pink tomato festival. We called about 45 minutes ahead of time and they had a table ready and waiting for us. Every single person working there was so friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were happy. The service was such a treat. And then the food arrived. Three in our party ordered steaks, all cooked differently. All three were delighted with their meals. My husband shared a bite of his steak with me and it would almost melt in your mouth. He said he may never try to cook a steak himself again after tasting that one because it was so good and would be hard to top. Two got fried shrimp and really enjoyed it. I got shrimp scampi. All I left were a few noodles and the butter! The salad bar was nice, the sides were plentiful, and it was just a perfect meal in every way. But the best part was the people working there. Always very good food and the staff is helpful to the point of almost being annoying! (but in a good way) The steaks are cooked to order which can cause a little bit of a wait but this is a place you don't go in looking for a quick bite anyway. The owner greets you at the door, rings up your bill and usually will come by your table at least once while ensuring high quality experiences for each guest. Problems are rare but they are always ready and willing to correct any issue. The salad bar is plentiful and so is the fresh toasted garlic bread. I have been to many steak houses, but i can say, the steaks at Colonial are the absolute BEST i've ever eatten! Hands down, the best!!! It was charbroiled to a perfect medium well. The incredible flavor is almost indescribable except to say crazy good, tender, and juicy. This is the first steak i've eaten that no sauce was necessary. I don't know what they do to the steaks, just don't stop doing it!!! The salad bar was perfectly chilled and fresh with basic fixings. The baked potato was very hot and delicious. Our waiter was so plesant and helpful. The servers kept our drinks full and the overall service was outstanding! We were celebrating our anniversay, and the staff presented us with cake and sang while everyone there clapped. I really enjoyed our visit, and can't wait to return. If you are in pine bluff, Ar don't leave, DO NOT LEAVE without going to COLONIAL STEAK HOUSE!!! We will never travel to little Rock AGAIN for steak. The absolute best steak I have ever eaten. I have eaten many. I was there back 18 or more years ago. They had a "bone in Rib-eye" that was basically a Tomahawk. Typically I read the reviews on this place before my visit and was not quite swayed to compromise my valentine date with my wife of 25 years with the slim chance it may not be worthwhile. At the last minute and with very limited choice that exists in Pine Bluff we resigned to our fate what ever comes out it. To our greatest surprise it turned out to be a warmly receptive and well catered environment. The food was meat cooked in very uncommon porterhouse style, very delicious. The salad was fresh and best of all the waitress was very knowledgeable and courteous in her attendance. The bus attendants were quite on their toes making sure that our needs were met. The only little drawback is one were to stand outside and observe the patrons one might be forced to think my type( black folks ) would not be welcome but to our greatest pleasurable chagrin we went in and saw a couple of my kind who obviously know about this ostensible secret fine dinning. There are some definite issues with the front of the house: host is very inefficient. He was very inaccurate as to wait time to be seated longer 30 minutes . Once seated saw many empty tables ready for guests to be seated. Wait staff had an interesting way to replenish ice cubes in glasses( a kitchen bowl with ice and an ice cube scoop and a plastic pitcher of sweet tea) . Some things noted: salad bar looked like it had been "run over" because they had been really busy... Selection acceptable but pieces were huge and required cutting and slicing at the table: the sneeze guard was dirty- they bring your food out on a rolling stainless steel kitchen cart. Broccoli had no seasoning : major sin of the kitchen!. Waiting for my dill sauce for my salmon... I got melted butter???? I think the dill sauce is not made from scratch.. Came from the grocery store and definitely not fresh! Very disappointed ! read more
