    Cheeseburger and large fries
    Kristi D.

The inside was closed due to COVID-19, but the outside window was open. They were kind of busy and had a steady flow of people probably 50-50 getting food and the other half getting ice cream. We ordered a cheeseburger sub, a cheeseburger, large fries and a thick chocolate milkshake. The food was super fresh and tasty. My husband was raving about how soft his sub bread was and my cheeseburger was super fresh and the bun was soft as well. Everything was hot and fresh. It definitely hit the spot since we were hungry and there was nothing else around. The fries were fresh cut, which was surprising. The milkshake was thick as I ordered it and I felt the wait time for the food was normal for fresh cook to order food. We didn't have to wait to order, but like I said they appeared to have a steady flow of people. It's definitely a decent meal and exceeded our expectations since we where in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully next time I'll have room to try their soft serve ice cream. They also have hard turkey hill ice cream and Italian ice.

We found this place while cruising the back roads a couple of weeks ago and decided to return today. Both visits we have gotten the Beef BBQ which has a very tasty bbq sauce and sauteed onions but today I realized that it appears as though they use a chopped up hamburger, not fresh ground beef which was a little disappointing. Today we ordered a chili dog and while the hot dog was a nice size the chili was literally non-existent as you can see in the photo, perhaps a spoonful was added to the middle of the bun. The fries seemed to be fresh and hot but nothing to write home about. I do love their cole slaw, sweet and creamy and only 50 cents per container and the chocolate shake we got today was also very good. One other thing, not sure if the pup cups are free or if there is a charge for them because the receipt I was given both times was just for the credit card and was not itemized but they only put a very small amount of ice cream in the cup, next time we will just pay for a kids cup for our golden puppy. Staff is friendly, their prices are good and there is lots of parking but this place seems to always be busy and the line can get pretty long (especially for the ice cream side) so be patient.

Apparently this IS thE place to go for ice cream, burgers, and homemade fries. Right off of 74. Well the fries are OK. Not much flavor at all. Had to salt them to death to get some. The Philly steak sandwich was pretty good. Now for the smoothies....My husband has been here 5 times and they NEVER got his smoothie right. Either they gave him a syrup rather than fresh. Or the wrong flavor all together. Or how about they forgot and then we waited 30min for it. They really need to train their staff better and invest in some season salt.

We visit Collinsville fairly often. Love to take a motorcycle ride out for dinner and ice cream. This is NOT fancy in any way - it's a simple greasy spoon type place. But, service is always good, the food is always tasty. Love the soft serve ice cream! My favorites are peanut butter, raspberry and pumpkin (in the fall). I think they also do peach soft serve seasonally. Try the cheese steaks, chili dogs and fries w/cheese. Gets crowded at times - the inside is fairly small. Prices are pretty reasonable.

I can't tell you how many times that medium is what I usually get when requesting medium-rare at restaurants. There's a big difference between the two in terms of internal temperature, center color, and texture. This place knows how to properly cook a medium-rare burger, and for me, that's a sign of quality and sets it apart. The sidewinder fries are fab as are the homemade potato chips and either comes with burgers. The dressing on the coleslaw needs some seasoning, but the slaw itself is fresh and crunchy. The Maryland crab soup is pretty slammin', too. I favor the back dining room, not the bar (in front). These 2 areas have different vibes. The back room feels like the way a burger joint should be. The bar is, well, more bar-ish. One of the servers, Brody, provides exceptional service--a shout out to him. This establishment's name is playful and clearly informs the customer as to what their specialty is: hamburgers. I bought one of their T-shirts, perhaps that says it all.

I should've left and found another option altogether. We both ordered burgers (of course), his a bacon cheeseburger with fries and coleslaw, mine a patty melt on rye bread with Swiss cheese, fries and coleslaw. Both medium rare. Both came out medium well, no coleslaw, one invisible slice of cheese on each burger and white bread instead of rye on my patty melt. The grilled onions actually looked more like onion jam and the trays with black/white checkered paper this is served on looks like it's never seen a sponge or water. No, I can't recommend this place.

I've driven by Joy's a million times and somehow never noticed it before. It's tucked into a busy strip mall and easy to miss if you're not specifically looking for it. Spoiler alert: you should be looking for it. My quest for the evening included both a burger and a chili dog, because they both looked amazing and I wanted the full Joy's experience. My adventure buddy and I arrived around 5pm and I was honestly surprised to see only one other person inside when we walked in. We grabbed a booth by the front door and looked over the menu again to finalize our plan. Since it was our first visit, we decided to order a few things and split them so we could try more. We ordered the loaded chili dog topped with chili, cheese, onions, and mustard ($5.25) and one of the Big Block Burgers -- specifically the Joy's Burger -- which came with grilled onions and mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, LA sauce, Swiss cheese, and fresh cut fries ($12.99). Naturally we added bacon for an extra $0.99 because that felt like the right decision. We also each grabbed a Diet Pepsi (to maintain some illusion of balance) for $2.50 each. Our total came to $25.69 before tip, which felt like a pretty solid deal for a two-person Friday night dinner adventure. The setup at Joy's has a classic old-school diner feel. The grill sits right behind the seating counter so you can watch your food being made, and they mix milkshakes right out front as well. The place is simple and no-frills -- and in my experience, those "keep it simple and do it well" places are often the real heavy hitters. The chili dog came out first, and the first thing I noticed was that this thing was HEAVY. This wasn't your typical skinny hot dog -- it was a full ¼-pound dog absolutely loaded with chili. The flavor reminded me of a Cincinnati-style chili dog and it was really good. The chili was flavorful instead of just decorative, the mustard and onions were balanced perfectly, and the bun did its job without getting in the way. As someone who takes chili dogs very seriously, I have to give Joy's credit for delivering a straightforward, perfectly executed chili dog. Next came the burger and fresh cut fries, and when I say this burger was big, I mean BIG. Two patties tall with all the toppings stacked high. We sliced it in half and immediately dug in. The bacon was perfectly crisp, the mushrooms and Swiss were generous, and the whole thing just tasted like a real, proper burger. Not a chain burger that started life frozen and tastes like it could have been reheated in my microwave at home. This was the kind of burger you picture when you say you're craving a burger. The fries were exactly what you want from fresh-cut fries -- the smaller ones nice and crispy, and the bigger ones crispy on the outside with that soft, fluffy inside. Splitting the chili dog and burger turned out to be the right call. It would have been easy to eat everything solo, but my stomach probably would not have forgiven me later. Our server was super friendly and attentive throughout the visit. While we were there, a few more people came in to eat, but overall it felt relaxed and easy for a Friday evening. Parking is free since Joy's sits in a strip mall, but it can be a little tight because there are several other popular businesses nearby. We were able to find a spot without trouble, but I could see it getting tricky during busier times. If you're looking for solid burgers, legit chili dogs, and an old-school diner vibe, Joy's Grill & Burger House is absolutely worth seeking out -- especially if you're like me and always on the lookout for your next great burger or chili dog adventure.

I hadn't eaten since breakfast so I was wildly ready for this meal. But nothing prepared me for what I saw when they called my name when my order was ready... I stuck my fork into the fries first, golden brown and smothered in bacon and cheese. The second my fork broke the surface, clouds of steam rose off, as they were piping hot. The nerves come from the fact that I consider myself a "Burger God." I've hunted down some of the best burger joints the country -- and the world -- has to offer, so I was trusting this place to deliver. Right away, the dressing felt sloppy. The cold toppings were piled on top of the meat, pulling heat out of the patty fast. The beef itself was fresh and juicy, but the bun paid the price -- soaking up oil and fat until it lost all structural integrity. You can see it in the photo: completely flattened. Summary: Melt Gourmet's burgers are genuinely good, and it starts with the quality of beef they source. Where they're leaving points on the table is in how the burger is dressed -- and a stronger hand with seasoning would take it even further. The patty itself was a little under-seasoned, but the freshness of the beef and the crunch of the LTOP (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle) kept me engaged. Fresh-baked buns daily are another point in their favor, enough to bump my score from a 6 to a 7. What kept it from climbing higher was the construction: the way it's dressed and presented practically guarantees a mess with the first bite. The fix is simple -- onions, pickles, and lettuce should sit directly on the bottom bun, with tomato layered above them. Stacking the wet ingredients on top instead cools the cheese and patty fast, and every bite sends juice running rather than staying put. The result is flavor that ends up on your forearm instead of your tongue.
