I only stumbled across this bar when I went to a wedding held at Longhirst Hall a few weeks ago. Before then I didn't even realise us locals now had somewhere new to go and relax! I was told by a member of staff the bar has only been open 5 months, it's brand spanking new.
On my first visit to the bar on the wedding night I was trying to escape the noise of an evening reception being held in the court suite. I had a couple of drinks in the bar and got chatting with the staff. This was a Saturday night and the bar was very very busy, apparently there were 2 wedding evening receptions being held that night and the Collingwood bar is in between both rooms (although suitable distances not to hear noise!) so quite a hub of activity! Even on this busy night there were enough bar staff to go around, no long waits.
I returned to the bar 4 days later after work to have a quiet drink and meet some friends, they all loved it too! The bar has an extensive wine and champagne list and have a good variety of drinks. We decided to have something to eat, and let me tell you it was lovely! The portion sizes were fab, good British pub food and the quality & presentation of the food was also a fantastic standard. Longhirst Hall are well known for supporting local businesses so you can be assured what you are eating is local, everything is listed on the menu. They also have a different daily special Mon-Sun where the special of the day comes with a free drink.
The bar itself is warm and comfortable, if I remember correctly the barman said it seats 200 people. They serve food Mon-Sun 12pm - 9pm , and are open 11am - 11pm Mon-Sun. You can sit outside too and enjoy the grounds. For wheelchair users you can enter through the main reception, or they have a wheelchair lift on the stairs if you come into the bar from the other end.
This bar isn't just for those staying at Longhirst Hall Hotel, it's for us locals too! Everyone should visit and try the food, no complaints here! read more
