Myself and a couple of friends had an afternoon/evening on Gosforth High street for a change a few weeks a go. I must say it has changed a lot since I last went out there. We met in the wetherspoons up the road and made our way down to Barca via the pub next door. Fist impressions are good compared to last time and the bar girl certainly more attractive than the last ones I remember!. We stopped for a couple of drinks and some food, the menu is quite good and better than most pub menu'sBeing from Italian descent it's nice to see more mediterranean influence on a menu. However I must point out some things that really annoyed me. Our food was sat on the bar after it was prepared and sat there for some time. This really is a pet hate of mine, especially when it's not busy (in fact it was very quiet). When eventually the food did arrive it was barely warm.We were hungry, the food looked ok so we got stuck in, the person who brought the food clearly didn't have concept of standard service skills and banged the food down. Then proceeded to walk past a table with uncleared food on that had been sat there since we had come in.No excuse for lazyness!. In saying that, they did come back and ask if everything was ok and when mentioned it could be hotter, just smiled and said 'ok' .Quite funny really :o) The food itself wasn't bad, but I don't think justified the price.I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. But I'm not sure in this instance. as the menu is more on the pricey range. The experiance wasn't awful or anything and the atmosphere was certianly better than the last time I was there (fruit machines and loud music blasting!!!), but I hate bad service and dirty tables. All in all I probably will go back one day and give it another go as it may just have been a one off and certianly better than the last time. But need to kick the bar staff up the backside and clean the tables regularly. read more
