Myself & 4 other people went to the Colliery Inn at the top of Crook for to celebrate my Wife's birthday after reading previous reviews & we were staying quite close , this was probably the worst meal I have ever had, not just me, but most of what was placed in front of us all I would not go back again even if it was free !!!! below is a summary of the issue's & the total cost was £125
Starters
3 people had mushroom melt, this was discribed by all as Raw mushrooms served in a bowl of tasteless soup
1 Person had Pate' straight from a cash & Carry
I had a Black Tower, this consisted 3 slices of black pudding & some lettuce, when I asked for olive oil , I was informed there was none
Main Course's
2 Surf & Turf's One Steak ordered Medium , was medium , One steak ordered Well done was Medium at one side & Rare at the other , the surf bit was some tiny shrimps in a container the size of an egg cup in the same soup as the Mushroom Melt
One T Bone steak ordered Rare , the steak was actually Grey in appearance and was at best medium , this was sent back & reordered , I dont know what sort of steak they sent out but it wasn't T bone and was still not Rare but probably Medium rare to medium ,
I ordered a Rare steak and got a medium rare steak , when I paid & complained the staff were not really interested definitely a place to miss out , thank god the customer now has a means of reporting these rip off establishments!
I suspect the first few reviews were probably written by the owners read more
