I used to go to Ace HRDW years ago; the 2 stores I used to frequent closed, 10ish years ago; then one opened near me, (toole's), they had horrible customer service. I went to Ace Hardware for their great customer service but had a terrible experience. I needed a tow hitch lock and pin but didn't know where to look. The cashier ignored me, and the only staff I found was unhelpful. He showed me to aisle seven and then left. I was confused and couldn't find anyone to help. The store felt empty. I took a Stihl battery charger in for warranty work; the charger is less than a month old. Stihl products can be taken to ANY Stihl dealer for warranty work. The gentleman in charge of the Stihl products was rude and said that they were not prepared to honor Stihl's warrantee unless I bought the charger from them. A young man greeted me on a busy Sunday just before Christmas and took me all around the store to get screwdrivers, pliers, and Allen wrenches to equip my toolbox. I happened to visit the store a few days ago. When I walked in, I was looking around for a particular type of gloves. I was approached by two young employees who asked if they could help me find something. I explained I needed gloves to work in lake and they need to be heavy duty, and cover as much of my lower arm as possible. They immediately took me from the garden glove area to another aisle that had exactly what I was looking for! They pointed out the advantages of each type of glove. Used to really like this one. Something has changed. They are not friendly and/or helpful anymore. Went in today to purchase items and had a ten dollar ace reward. They would not take it since they were offline and did not know when they would be back up. Could not scan me for points either. If they cared which they don't they could have said something or acted like they care. You pay more for service and convenience and the loyalty scan and rewards keep you coming back. We left without our purchase. Very disappointing. read more

It has taken a while for me to figure out whether I should change my review or not, but here it is. Service. Yup, that can make or break a place for me. Usually here we get outstanding service but on one specific occasion we got a really awful attitude from one of the employees, it was just terrible. I was shocked at how bad it was, but not surprised since his general demeanor is always pretty gruff, helpful but with a gruff attitude as if it was a bother. What prompted my change in review was the fact that he was named "Best Retail Service" (or something similar) in our local College Park paper. Voted actually. WHAT? Really? He accused us of not having purchased an item there (it was in an unopened ACE brand packaging) in front of the whole store. All we wanted was to exchange it since we had purchased the wrong size. His exact quote after denying us the exchange was "How am I supposed to know that you got it here? There are 150 ACE Hardware Stores in the area"... 150? Really now? We had walked right in and went straight to the cashier to ask to exchange FOR THE SAME product, different size. Either way it was an ACE product, it was unopened, we had just walked in and went straight to him... we HAD purchased it there. One of the times we were charged $22 for two packs of sand paper, when in fact I had two SHEETS. We were surprised at how much it was but had a ton of other things, so I checked the receipt as we left, I noticed the price and went back in immediately, mistakes are mistakes, we are all human and the cashier was super embarrassed (it wasn't him, someone else) and we still had no issue with it and actually kept on saying that it was no biggie. We told the cashier not to worry, it was all cool, and then the next week we get treated like that? He was quite rude and being honest people we won't return to a store where someone is going to treat us so rudely, even though everyone else is SUPER nice and really sweet. As for those local votes, I don't recall getting a chance to do so, so I figure it was friends and family members who live in the area. This place doesn't get one star because of everyone else - they are cool, but this place lost my business because of him. read more

Ace IS the place with the helpful hardware man! Went into College Park Ace Hardware (Orlando) Friday morning, 9/2/22 to get some hardware for a project I'm doing. Really had no clue as they have an endless supply of screws and bolts. The employee working in the hardware section not only found the correct hardware I needed, but he even sketched me a little picture of how to mount my shelf project. I was very happy with the experience. This is why I always go to ACE! They are very helpful and patiently explain the product and how it works. If you have to pay a bit more than big box stores it's well worth it! Everything worked perfect and I was able to easily install my shelves and brackets. I just thought I'd write a quick review of this store since I was recently a customer here. I am assuming most of the Ace stores are similar, and it's not likely that there's anything about this one that sets it apart from the others, but it's also an adequate and, as far as I can tell, well-laid-out store. I was able to quickly find what I was looking for - an ice cooler - in here and with no problems whatsoever. I bought a sturdy Playmate ice cooler that looks like it's going to last a long time and cost only $20, or maybe slightly more. The store is in a convenient location on Edgewater Dr. and in between Princeton and Par sts. Not sure I'll ever make it back in here unless a stop in is necessary due to a required fix at home or if something random (i.e. an ice cooler!) is needed, but the store is here and should be able to fill any needs you might have if you stop by for a similar reason or reasons. read more

I went into Ace Hardware yesterday for some galvanized bolts. Went to the department and couldn't find what I wanted. Went to the front to get help. The cashier paged someone to go to isle 9. I went back and someone else was having trouble finding what they wanted. He went away. Comes back with help. As the employee was leaving I said I was the one that asked for help. He said he just clocked in and left. I waited a minute and left. On my way out at the register the same employee asked if he could help but I was leaving. I needed some supplies and figured the Ace would be a much safer bet than Home Depot or Lowe's. I thought there would be less customers and that the company actually cared about both their customers and employees. Sadly, the three employees had no masks and no gloves. No social distancing at all, they walk right up into your space. They also don't require their customers to wear masks. It was horrible. I grabbed a few items and got out of there. I will NOT be returning. Shame on the owners of this location. If one of your employees gets sick or dies, who's fault is it? Can't help but wish companies,cared about their customers and employees. I have visited the CPAH literally hundreds of times since they opened many years ago. I have generally had good experiences there, and appreciated the helpfulness of the folks who work there. Today it all changed. My wife went in to exchange an Ace brand furnace filter for the correct size, which I cash purchased just yesterday. Still pristine, in its original plastic wrapper. Problem is there was no receipt and the manager claimed this item had not been purchased since January. They refused the exchange!! She paid for three of the correct size, and came home with both sizes in tow. I was, to say the least, upset. I immediately took the incorrect filter, which was worthless to me, back to CPAH and offered it up to the store manager as an Easter gift to the McMillans (owners). The store manager, Tom, who an hour earlier refused the exchange to my wife, offered to exchange it for me!! Of course, since my wife just purchased three of the correct filters, I insisted on a refund, which was not easy. He gave me $3.50 cash, but I know I paid $5.49 plus tax. Impossible he declared. I took him to back to the shelf and showed him that all the Ace brand pleated filters were $5.49 (and not on sale). He gave me $5.50. But I wanted the sales tax. He gave me 6 cents. I wanted it all. He gave me 30 cents. Close enough. I left the store. Here's my point. I expected better customer service, especially for something as straight forward as this. Growing up I had an ACE down the street and the "small town shop with everything you need" feel is what I'm used to. Living in College Park with an ACE within walking distance is so nice. I have grown to really appreciate the people who make ACE so great. The staff and Management treat you like your projects are their own. I never walk away knowing I didn't get 110%. I have to shout out Tom as he has really gone above and beyond to help me find parts that are extremely hard to come across. And The cashier who pets my dog and feeds her treats... it's just so nice to know I have a team of people who can help me and care. The College Park Ace is a great place. The staff is friendly and always there to help you find what you are looking for and offer a suggestion on how to make a project easier. I am often surprised that even though its a small store they always seem to have what I am looking for. I also love how they have propane refilling onsite which has come in handy on more than one occasion with steaks on the grill and no gas in the tank, the price is also better than doing a tank exchange at other places. They also stock an excellent selection of home air conditioner filters in numerous sizes. read more

2013 resolution: hit up the small stores as much as possible, not the big boxes. This Ace Hardware is pretty convenient to the downtown area and has parking around back. I've made several trips, usually in search of the one small thing I need to finish a project (feet for furniture, an assortment of nails, scraping tools for removing thinset plaster - the latter for which I required advice and found everyone to be very friendly and helpful) and they've always had what I need. I have shopped here may times and have found them exceptional in helping me find solutions that are outside the box. I have turned a bird feeder into a mailbox, turned several shepherd's hooks into a yard fence and they have helped me find a drill bit that will go through concrete walls! Came in 8 months pregnant carrying a 1 year old baby in my arms and they refused to return a $4.00 item I purchased at another Ace Hardware store a few days earlier though I had a receipt. Nowhere on the the receipt does it say I can't return it at a different Ace Hardware store nor was I told that when I purchased the item. If you want to be an independent hardware store, then you shouldn't carry a national name. Manager refused to do anything and was very unsympathetic. Last time I ever purchase anything from Ace (it was my local store). Home Depot and Lowes it is - all over $4.00, I hope it was worth losing my business Ace Hardware. read more
