Warning: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! This is a fraudulent company. College Loan Freedom (or The Student Loan Expert as he also goes by) is a complete scam. Larry Morrison provides so called "services" to people who have no idea what they are doing in regards to loan repayment options. He will try to offer you a variety of options and will seem real "cool" and "friendly". Do you know why? Because he's completely ripping you off! YES! The services he provides are 100% free for you to do on your own and you DO NOT NEED LARRY MORRISON to do this for you. You're in debt already, so don't waste more money on paying Larry. It's EASY and 100% free to take care of changing your loans and repayment options totally by yourself.
How Larry Morrison's Scam works:
1. He will talk to you on the phone and make it sound like he has a bunch of options that you've never heard of or maybe some that might work. He might ask for your FSA ID, but don't give that out...keep reading to see why...
2. He makes sure to setup an in person meeting with you after this if he hasn't gotten your FSA ID yet. I setup the meeting, but in the meantime, he still emailed me and asked for screen shots "but I also need to see the specific loan types as well. If you use the FSA ID to log into the NSLDS then I can get a more accurate picture of what needs to be done. Take screen shots and send them to me". I have all this in emails as well for legal proof. I also told him multiple times that I was NOT comfortable giving him my FSA ID or any username / login / password info, but he kept pressuring me to do give that information to him. I decided I'd looking into this further by going to a meeting to see what this was really all about.
3. During the meeting he takes some notes on his tablet and pretends to be a professional
4. If you do setup a meeting with him, be extremely careful because he will try to get you to login to your student financial aid account so he can "look at the exact numbers". He plays it off like he can help you, but he won't "really" be able to help you or provide you with exact details without looking at your account. All he has to do is keep you logged in on his tablet and he can do anything on your account. He can also have a program setup that tracks the exact keys that you type so that way he has your password and login.
5. This is actually ILLEGAL for you to give your student financial aid info (officially known as your FSA ID) to someone else to use. YES, if you've done this, it's a crime. Larry is basing his business 100% off of crime and using this information and then charging you for it. How is that ethical, legal or honest? It's not.
6. Note that all he does on his end is EXTREMELY simple. He literally just submits paperwork that you've filled out and charges you for this. It's free to submit this paper work and to change your loans. Yes, I still have ALL of this in detailed emails.
Larry Morrison offered to charge me a total of $595.00 for this fake "service". He even offers you a free month of not having to pay for loans, which is again, an option that you can pick when you do this yourself. He even offers to allow you to do "split" payments so it's not too hard to pay him back.
Let me tell you that my payments for my student loans were about $600 a month already and by doing the process and changes MYSELF I got my loans down to less than $300 a month. ALL BY MYSELF. So I'm extremely glad that I did more research and did not pay Larry almost $600 and participate in illegal activity. He even tried to say that "having an honest person on the private side would be a great benefit to" himself and those he works with. This company and Larry are the complete opposite of honest.
HOW TO CHANGE YOUR LOANS ON YOUR OWN WITHOUT BEING SCAMMED AND SAVE $595:
1. You have full control of the repayment options and you can change them at anytime. This is NOT something Larry does, but the NSLDS and Department of Education.
2. Start by contacting your loan repayment company and tell them you want to consolidate your loans into 1. This is free and all this does is put them into 1 account versus multiple loans. They will give you instructions on how to consolidate your loans into 1 loan.
3. After your loans are consolidated (takes about 30 days--this is the "free" time period that Larry offers as he pretends to make it one of the benefits of doing that through him), contact your loan repayment company and tell them you want to lower your month payments. You can also research this at the very beginning so you don't have to wait and you might even be able to get a clear idea of what you'll be paying after the loans are consolidated.
4. Sound too easy? It is! Do some research, educate yourself, and don't let Larry Morrison rip off any more people!
5. Finalize your loan repayment based on the options your repayment company has to offer you. It might be income based, etc. but you have a variety of options. Good luck! read more
